candyfluff · 26/03/2009 08:37

now dentist wants me on another 5 days course because it turns out im allergic to penicillin(been up all night on the loo)
oh why me i cant bear the taste arghhhhh

ShrinkingViolet · 26/03/2009 08:57

I had this stuff via a drip in hospital once - it was the most horrific night I've ever spent, trying to rush back and forth to the loo with the IV trolley thing, and the drip in my "wiping" hand (TMI?). And even when they changed to different ABs, it tik hours for the side effects to settle down. Horrid horrid stuff.

Jambuttie · 26/03/2009 09:11

They made me throw up too bleurghhhhh.

Once the settled into my system though they dod clear infection quickly but the awful feelings with them were horrendous

candyfluff · 26/03/2009 09:13

even though they made you feel ill did you still have to continue taking them

MumtoCharlieandLola · 26/03/2009 09:29

I'm taking them for an infection in my tooth, they are awful.

I wondered why I have been so forgetful and dozy, I knew they made you sick and you have to avoid alcohol but I am sooooo dozy its embarrassing.

Stick with them because if you don't take them your toothache will come back with a vengence the next time ! (I did that too once)

candyfluff · 26/03/2009 09:32

mumtocharlie and lola have you got that awful taste in ur mouth

MumtoCharlieandLola · 26/03/2009 09:39

Yup, mind this time I am not as bad as I was last time sick wise. I make sure I have eaten something first,

The only thing is, when I go to swallow them, if they don't go down in one go they are totally bogging !!!

candyfluff · 26/03/2009 10:22

is the minging taste there all the time for you
i cant stand it
what can get rid of it ?
any ideas's

MumtoCharlieandLola · 26/03/2009 10:29

Sorry, no it goes, I would suggest gum or tic tacs I support, or if its really bad, go back to the dentist and see what else he could suggest.

candyfluff · 26/03/2009 18:46

has anyone had to have two dose's of this

candyfluff · 26/03/2009 19:39

ah just seen that the second lot are half strength -thank the lord

noddyholder · 26/03/2009 19:41

I had this for a tooth abcess and although it made me feel sick it got rid of it where all else had failed and i was so greatful

mummytopebs · 26/03/2009 22:49

I have the taste constantly - i cant take tablets so am actually taking the medicine form and it tastes horrendous. I have felt absolutly wiped out today and made loads of mistakes at work cos dopey, still only 5 days to go!!!!! We should make this the support thread for horrid medicine

Was given it for infected gums next to wisdom tooth, am allergic to penicillin so this was the next choice I guess.
No side effects whatsoever here and worked a treat.

elsiepiddock · 27/03/2009 12:28

I just started taking them yesterday - am worried now!

I have only taken 4 and feel fine so far (apart from raging toothache and lantern jaw).

My dh is working from home, so my disfigured face and I are having a duvet day!

Dentist warned me about urine and alcohol, but that was it.

candyfluff · 27/03/2009 12:44

whats lantern jaw ?
i only saw the side affects start towards the end of the course ,bad taste ,dark urine and feel woozy

elsiepiddock · 27/03/2009 12:50

lantern jaw

candyfluff · 27/03/2009 12:52

mine was like that too on sunday

minxcatnat · 26/09/2013 17:32

Taken metronidazole for 2 days only and had to stop. Never felt so ill in all my life..side effects- on the bog all night, puking up and funny taste in my mouth. Also had numbing in my hands...NIGHTMARE of an antibiotic.

BaldricksTurnip · 27/09/2013 21:44

I had to take it for ten days for an infected tooth. Made me feel really spaced out, runny tummy and then I got thrush in my mouth urgh.

Mouserama · 28/09/2013 09:15

I've taken it a few times (infected wisdom teeth) with no side effects. Make sure you don't drink any alcohol whilst on them. In my dentosts words, if you drink alcohol whilst on metronidazole, you will be very sick. Apparently the drug stops the body metabolising alcohol, so there is only one way for the alcohol to escape

digerd · 28/09/2013 09:28

Yes, and never again! I felt sea-sick for 10 days despite the course being only 5 days, and I lost half a stone in weight, which I couldn't afford and ended up looking 20 years older. Don't remember any other symptoms other than several bowel motions a day.
I refuse to take it again.

prettyanddainty · 28/09/2013 17:48

It made me feel absoulately rotten, I had to take it a few weeks ago. I felt sick all the time, just crap basically and it felt like I had a brick in my stomach.
