I have been awake since silly o'clock with pain from my UTI

I'm taking the antibiotics
I'm drinking like a fish (unfortunately not alcohol)
I'm generally OK(ish) during the day after about an hour or so of pain - but not today

I have terrible crampy pains in my back (right side) & now they have come round the front

I feel shaky

I can't take my normal pain killers as they make me a bit constipated & I know that won't help the UTI - and as I take painkillers most days, ordinary paracetamol don't do much any more

Basically I just wanted to whinge until the pain dies down - then I'm going back to bed

How are you doing now?
I have done that (althouhg not been as bad as you).Had to deal with DD's before getting myself dealt with. Oh the joys of parenting!

I'm knackered & without pain - this has got to be good

My diagnosis has changed to kidney stones

I'm not sure that is an improvement

At least they can tackle stones. They can give you a series of x-rays with a dye to check how they are working/if they are blocked.

Make sure you drink loads of water. This will help flush the small ones out.

KatyMac · 02/02/2009 18:19

Actually over the last 3/4 months I have started to drink loads (even to the point of getting up twice in the night to drink)- I kept promising to go & see the GP about it

I am getting an appointment to have the dye thing......'in due course'

His has given me a pain killer which says don't take this if you get abdominal pains.....to relieve my abdominal pains - I haven't taken it because I am confused

I'd go back. If you are in severe pain for longer then 24 hours then you need to go to A&E as there could be an obstruction due to a stone. You also need to go if you have pain and a fever or if you are unable to wee.

KatyMac · 02/02/2009 19:16

Oh I can wee

Lots - bucket loads

My pain lasts about 6-8 hrs each day usually starting between 3am & 6am

I am waiting for NHS direct to ring back about the pain killers although some very kind mumsnetters have been reassuring here I thought I'd wait until NHS direct rings back [wuss]

It'll be OK. They do suggest that you use a tea strainer or some filter paper to catch any stones. You have to wee into it to filter it I'm afraid.

KatyMac · 02/02/2009 20:17

A tea strainer?

what every time I wee?

OP posts:

Yes. It may be easier to wee in a large (old) jar and filter it. I know it's gross but if there's a stone in there then you know that this is what is making you ill.

KatyMac · 02/02/2009 22:24

It was really bad yesterday & it lots better today......it might have gone [hope]

Stones will go and then come back again. Try reducing the amount of salt in your diet, this should help.

KatyMac · 02/02/2009 22:29

I don't really add salt

Mind you I occasionally have soy & worcestershire sauces & the odd stock cube

Oh poop

Night & thanks
