I have been awake since silly o'clock with pain from my UTI

I'm taking the antibiotics
I'm drinking like a fish (unfortunately not alcohol)
I'm generally OK(ish) during the day after about an hour or so of pain - but not today

I have terrible crampy pains in my back (right side) & now they have come round the front

I feel shaky

I can't take my normal pain killers as they make me a bit constipated & I know that won't help the UTI - and as I take painkillers most days, ordinary paracetamol don't do much any more

Basically I just wanted to whinge until the pain dies down - then I'm going back to bed

There's a test they do called Murphys sign, to test for gallstones/gallbladder things.

They put two fingers sideways pressing just below your ribcage, and ask you to breathe in. If you hit the roof it's likely to be a correct diagnosis - maybe he was doing that?

(I tried it on myself nad it didn;t hurt at all, even though coughing hurt.)

scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:32

I've seen some normal weight/underweight people with gall stones so it's not just overweight people who get them.

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 17:32

Yes that was it ribcage & breathing in....ouch

Does it help if you keep away from fatty food?

A tad to high to be appendix.

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 17:37

I have another painful bit, just above my knickerline midway between my tummy button & my side but that wasn't important apparently

I have the most pain in my back

OP posts:
KatyMac · 31/01/2009 17:38

Well it only started hurting this week on Monday & it hurts most in the morning before I do a wee

It definitely improves after I wee

your appendix then!

Go to A&E, they can run the blood tests for you, they may also do another test, just know it's over in seconds and is something to do with your bum.

scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:39

Or maybe its....

scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:41

a kidney infection . This one sounds nasty. I'd pop to A&E, it's not supposto get better after a wee, that's a sign of a blockage/problem. They can check your appendix/gall bladder whilst you are there.

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 17:43

Well I am too knackered to do anything now - I am spending my energy thinking of ways to persuade DH to cook tea - is stirfry with Olive Oil fatty?

& I have such a good diet

If it isn't better tomorrow I promise I will go (honest)

OP posts:
scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:44

Yes. It's the oil that has the fat.

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 17:47

We may try it without

I don't have artificial fats, I avoid hydrogenated fats & I only add olive oil to anything

Poop I so wanted stirfry lamb & leeks

OP posts:
Watusi · 31/01/2009 17:49

How confusing.

The lower pain sounds like it's where your appendix is
The higher sounds gallbladdery

No idea
perhaps you have both.

Yes go tomorrow please!

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 17:53

Or maybe it's a UTI & my IBS being 'unusual'

OP posts:
scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:55

Don't assume it's IBS just incase it isn't and it's appendicitis. Let them check you out.

Can't you steam the stirfry a little rather then fry it?

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 17:57

Has soysauce & stock cubes got fat in?

OP posts:
scrooged · 31/01/2009 18:00

I don't think so. A bit salty though. Fried food is bad for gall stones as the fat can't get digested so makes furry poo with pain!

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 18:02

Don't fry much

Chips once every 2 weeks

Um fry onions but I can do that in a little water & sugar

Um Fry potato cakes (homemade ones) but I can probably grill them

that's it really

OP posts:
scrooged · 31/01/2009 18:03

Try steaming instead. It's healthy and makes the food taste sweeter. You can steam almost everything. Salad dressing is also one to avoid.

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 19:08

Well I had the stirfry

& it was OK

I think I'll have a nap

JackBauer · 01/02/2009 08:59

How are you feeling?
If you aren't any better then maybe think about going in today?

Hope you are feeling better though

KatyMac · 01/02/2009 11:19

Not much better, not any worse

I'm monitoring it - as I really couldn't work tomorrow like this

OP posts:
JackBauer · 01/02/2009 11:25

Oh how boring.
I mean to be the same as it makes it harder to decide what to do.

KatyMac · 01/02/2009 11:31

We are picking up DD at 2:30 from guide camp an hour away - she is doing a performance before we collect her

So I think everything is postponed until then

OP posts:
KatyMac · 01/02/2009 12:07

I think in an ideal world we would watch the show, ask a friend to take DD home & look after her, then go on to the hospital

But that isn't possible anymore, as my friend I could ask isn't
