For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

What would you put int a hot tomato salad? - that sounds good

Papillon · 20/01/2009 07:14

Hello everyone

Lots of vege happening in my world. Being shopping off the neighbours who go on holidays and leave their hothouses full of gorgeous tomatoes, cucumbers and basil, basil, basil. Thank you very much, yum yum. Not to mention my father is growing vege for the family. Picked lovely green beans yesterday and cooked them in fresh tomatoes (neighbours) with lots of garlic.

tonight was broccoli soup, cooked an enourmous head of the stuff, defrosted vege stock has made earlier in the month to add to it.

Been eating alot of plums and the apples are not far off being ready.

Happy New Year. Nice to see these threads still happening

TooTicky · 20/01/2009 07:37

Oh Papillon, I have fresh harvestable veg envy!!!!!!!!

Hugs to Stuffit

Mango, I do think that HE is grweat, but you have to have the right frame of mind, energy, support, space....and a nice tractable child.
In retrospect, I needn't have worried about dd1 because she reads so voraciously and is streaks ahead anyway so wasn't going to get left behind.
All children so different though....
....mine tend to scorn any idea of mine

Okay, have to go and do organised things.....

TooTicky · 20/01/2009 07:38

Papillon, a little more envy at your apples being nearly ready!!!!!!

mangolassi · 20/01/2009 07:44

Mmm papillon, where are you? Sounds lovely...

mangolassi · 20/01/2009 08:14

Oh, and...
juice
bananas (1)
oranges (2)
apple

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/01/2009 08:30

Toot - I hope things go well at school today. I don't really feel I can add anything as ds isn't at school yet.

Mango - put your garlic mushrooms with some peppery salad leaves, avocado, mozzarella, grilled tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. How about that?

mangolassi · 20/01/2009 08:43

Lemur, that sounds great - actually making me hungry - but I can't get hold of avocado or mozzarella cheese. Am looking at hot tomato salad recipes trying to find one I can get the ingredients for!

mollyroger · 20/01/2009 08:45

oh how lovely to see Paps!

TWF - ask Toot to forward my mobile number if you like

Blueberries, banana again. I have started shoving linseeds in my porridge and they are yummy.
Lentil and carrot soup for lunch, and an apple. spanish omelette and salad for dinner.

Got to go Work x

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/01/2009 09:04

Can you get feta cheese?

Peppery leaves, grilled toms, sweet pepper, toasted nuts, feta and balsamic?

i really thought was innocuous but i obviously don't have good judgement on that
apologies
v pleased to see you not actually up and about till 5.30 this morning though what time did you get to bed? hope all goes well with school meeting

f+v from yesterday (got carried away with parasol twirling and forgot ):

grapes raisins apple pineapple
melon
avocado chickpeas carrot cucumber
edamame beans, peas, corn
satsumas apple

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2009 09:36

guad you know the cow juice thing
does it have to be complete exclusion? would cutting down make the slightest difference? and what happens when you lapse?

am just thinking i am not going to have much fun gastronomically this year if proves necessary
am meant to be sugar free for various health reasons
have had erm patchy success with that one

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2009 09:37

and lol at avi stepping over me last night
gee thanks pardner

mollyroger · 20/01/2009 09:43

Hope today goes well Toot

Mou have posted on your thread

Fran do you think you could cut the dairy out for a couple fo weeks and see if it made a difference? Am clueless about such things but like to stab wildly in the dark.

Am chortling at last nights antics

You lot make me larf.

BBBee · 20/01/2009 09:56

good lucky tooty

hope you are less sick TF

Franny - as avi I also did dairy free for a bit for DS colic and found it made fuck all difference - what is your main dairy vice?

Feather - i went to edingdong festival annually pre children and loved it. Am on mialing lists and know some performers and so adore it a lot - hence the email. sadly, is very different with DCs - get to do lots of children stuff but now itis much more expensive and makes me selfishly yearn for the days when I went to 12 shows and stayed out all night.

okay - work stuff and other stuff and not this stuff (however lovely)

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2009 10:03

chse btter ckes mlk chcolate

i think cheese hardest as we often have as part of meal
others are pure indulgence

(sorry toot)

BBBee · 20/01/2009 10:20

hmm, cheese is hard because although feta is nice it doesn't cut it in a meal.

goats butter is LOVELY - I promise - it sounds horrid but it is nice

Frys chocolate cream is dairy free and sugarly intensely buzzy

cakes - um, rice crispy cakes?

but this won;t help because you are stubborn breast feeding and the urge to eat stuff you want is overwhelming.

ahundredtimes · 20/01/2009 10:21

lol. I love everything from last night, has made me LOL. I loved Avi kicking chickens too.

TooT - surely what you need to convince them of is that you are very committed to dd1's education. If she attended poorly last term and they know she didn't attend school in Y6 - they are justified in being a bit aren't they? I think you explain why you HE'd, what she covered, how very committed you are to the school, keen for her to attend, clear the air and explain. Then say - I am worried about her socially, could you help us with this please?

That's what I would do. Right am going to work. I meant to say actually - do you know I do /10 bit of exercise every day? I do. I think it goes unrecognized.

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2009 10:27

i hate goats
i hate them
they stink of goat
everything to do with them stinks
you eat some goat's cheese and at first it is nice tasty cheese and then it's like a goat walked in and pissed in your mouth

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2009 10:28

100
yes it goes unrecognised because YOU DON'T TELL US

Not just one teeny weeny chicken that got in the way of your spurs? [hopeful]

I walk up hills for an hour every morning, well then I walk down again. I think that counts. It's exhausting btw. Now I've told you.
