For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I've no hope of catching up.

Is everyone OK tonight?

I'm a bit swimming uphill thorugh treacle at the moment. I seems to have that thing where my mental to-do list seems to be expanding exponentially.

And there's a storm coming, isn;t there?

pinkspottywellies · 17/01/2009 22:26

(Believe it or not I can play the bugle )

FrannyandZooey · 17/01/2009 22:27

must go to bed but i just read really marvellous book called playful parenting
highly recommend to alfie kohn lovers or even sceptics
it actually tells you what to do instead of punishments amd rewards! which is most common problem i have seen people have with UP
very compassionate, funny, child centred book

FrannyandZooey · 17/01/2009 22:28

pink can you really? how cool
you are official bugle blower and sticker hander outer

Guadalupe · 17/01/2009 22:29

I don't like peas.

I think it's because it was the only vegetable my mum fed us. Egg fried rice with peas, egg chips and pease, corned beef hash and peas. You get the jist!

Is it really, SB? I imagine you to be very organised.

I can't decide whether to wear green dress and charcoal tights with shoes that are a bit too small, or brown trousers with grey smocky top and shoes where I have to pin one button on. Invitation says Henry VII Lady Chapel Westminster Abbey. Maybe that is a side bit rather than great big bit. I don't know. I better take toys for ds2.

pinkspottywellies · 17/01/2009 22:29

Yes SB I like peas now. The only things I REALLy don't eat are raw onion and liver. I'm a bit fussy about combinations and how food looks but eat most things

Guadalupe · 17/01/2009 22:31

I love raw onion, especially with cheese.

I like the sound of that book, Franny. You will be pleased to know my cream egg was disappointing. Too warm and collapsed too soon.

pinkspottywellies · 17/01/2009 22:42

Oh no Guad should've put it in the fridge. I'm in N next weekend but I have instructions that I'm not allowed to move from the sofa so won't be able to see you!

FrayedKnot · 17/01/2009 22:44

I tried to find Alfie Kohn in Waterstones today but all they seemed to have was Gina Ford or Supernanny

Guadalupe · 17/01/2009 22:49

Aw, shall I walk past and throw you a cold cream egg in the window, Pink?

pinkspottywellies · 17/01/2009 22:51

Oh yes please guad!!

FK I know what you mean about swimming in treacle. Have you tried the library for Alfie Kohn?

FrayedKnot · 17/01/2009 22:59

I just did a search, Pink!

There is one copy of UP at one of the branch libraries in our area, out on loan.

SuperBunny · 17/01/2009 23:03

I have organised piles, Guad

Playful parenting sounds good - will look in library for it

I do not eat raw onion.

Guad - green dress, tomorrow. Take the shoes off at every opportunity.

FK, sorry you are treacley - I get like that too and it is such hard work. I have all these lists of things I need to do but they are so long, I can't seem to do any of them.

Bugger, it's snowing.

i love raw onion - my dad and i developped a theory about it being some kind of need for sulphur - sulphur v.v.v. good for you though.

SuperBunny · 17/01/2009 23:20

IS it good for you? What does it do? I had a boyfriend who ate raw onions like normal people eat apples. My dog used to steal them when we went out and he'd smell oniony for days.

Hello
juice apple dragonfruit banana pineapple and a berry smoothie which I suppose doesn't count if I've already had juice. Still 5 portions.

Not a single vegetable, will have salad for late lunch in a bit though.

Yoga too.

I'm stuffit's newest fb friend, come and find me!

We are all shortarses, I'm about the same size as Rach.

mangolassi · 18/01/2009 07:57

Also, I hate bring up the fibre/ portions thing again, but I was making soup yesterday and surely cooking veg breaks down the fibre as much as turning fruit into a smoothie does? Especially when it's soup or anything mashed?

So can I count my smoothie?

TooTicky · 18/01/2009 08:33

You'd have to check with High Priestess Franny on that one.
Off to find you on fb...

TinyWhiteFeather · 18/01/2009 08:55

I never GET how people can eat onions like apples and it makes me feel a little....eeuucchh!

Glad you have 'organised piles' SB, so much easier to manage that disorganised ones I should imagine..

I am the third tallest person on the thread at 5' 8and a bit''. I used to be taller but that is another one of feathers 'are you sitting comfortably?' stories.

My body is suffering because I carried shopping yesterday.....ffs....
So I am having my morning medication with a plain chocolate biscuit. And they have put on the packet that they are a 'great source of fibre' lolol.
I know they are not good for me so why spoil a sin by reminding me that I should probably be eating something better. It tastes good BECAUSE it is bad for me. Poxy marketing.

I will endeavour to be good for the rest of the day though and might run away try a run later if my body is up for it.

What is it about the serenity of mornings (no-one is up) that I like so much? If I had to say a time when I am the 'real' me, this would be it. Filled with the thrill of a new day unfolding and wondering how much I can fit in....

Oh look...I am talking bollox again....y'see. that is the real me....talking crap..

So, good morning to all that are rising in these parts and, err goodnight/afternoon to others. hugs and handshakes..xx

TooTicky · 18/01/2009 09:08

Good morning Feather

of your biscuit. You cannot get vegan chocolate biscuits ffs. Why the hell do they need butter oil?

TooTicky · 18/01/2009 09:11

It has only just occurred to me [complete dunce] that SB was not talking about bottom piles. I had been wondering how she organised them but didn't like to ask.

TooTicky · 18/01/2009 09:14

I have just spilt hot tea into my bra.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/01/2009 09:17

Morning TWF I like the choc biscuit story

Forgot to list yesterday:

banana
juice
spinach
mushrooms
olives
grapes
apple
tomatoes

Am feeling a bit odd today. DH and I have been talking about 'is our family complete'. How do you know? Do you ever know or do you just have to make a decision and stick with it?

Pink - it's normal to have wobbles. Everyone has them, but it WILL be ok.
