ok it's chickenpox season - anybody want to send some my way??!!

Apparently easter is the high season for chickenpox and I am hoping that dd and ds gets it. Sounds cruel I know but I didnt get them til I was 16 and it was horrendous. I had them everywhere and was really ill. I even had them in my stomach and on my joints. Ouch lol.

me too!!! mine just dont seem to get them! wish they would hurry up and get it over with! i got it when i was 15 and it was horrid.

I was half expecting a barrage of people shouting at me for being cruel!! dp didnt get it til he was 30 and he really suffered too - luckily i hadn't met him then I dont think I could have coped with him!!!

well then i am cruel too!! i have had my kids go up to others with chicken pox and they still dont get it!

yeah someone at dd's ballet was telling me it took her five go's of mixing with kids who had it to get her two to catch it!
I reckon it won't be long before they start having an MMRC with a chickenpox vaccine thrown in!

I think if you remember having it you are ruthless about wanting your child to get it over with young. I had it at 17 swiperfox and it made me ill for three weeks. I had to be carried out of my Saturday job over my dad's shoulder the day I came down with it (luckily this was Catford so no-one turned a hair as he staggered back to the car park).
They get it when they get it, I find. Ds missed the first two epidemics at his nursery despite being there five days a week, and got it the third year. I hear it's a mildish strain this year (in London anyway)

Thing is though the older you get it the worse it is so I only want them to get it now so they don't have it more severly when they are older as it is so nasty - If I thought they wwould get it as badly as we did i'd avoid it like the plague! I'm not really cruel....honest lol

My ds is misserable with it and dd is likely to get it anytime from now until the end of the holidays really!

I have ripped up all th party invitations we have and the list of days out I had planned.

Well I never knew that...chicken pox is around more at this time of year, that is.

All mine have had it and, yes I remember it was April when they did, so could be true. I have to say it was pretty horrendous for mine and they were only tiny; I don't think it could've got any worse, especially for little dd. She sort of vanished under it in the end! Have heard it can be bad for adults too though.

Has anyone ever heard that if they get it very young (i.e. less than 1 yr old) it doesn't give lifelong immunity. I heard this once, but I have no idea if it is true. I am waiting to infect my DD because I want her and her little brother to get it at the same time. I'd just rather do it once than twice. I had it as a kid so I'm not worried about me. DH doesn't know if he's had it. I suggested that he go see the GP to see if he'd be better off with the jab, since he is 37. I don't think he's worried about it. But, rest assured he'll not be happy if he gets it at this age.

Anyway, I'm pondering whether to wait until DS (due end of May) is 1 yr old or if I should expose them sooner should the opportunity present itself.

Uwila, i'd be surpised if that was true. I got cpox at 18 weeks pregnant and there is real risk that my baby will have congenital varicella syndrome at birth -all kinds of nasties that i won't bore you with. Anyway, if she is lucky to escape CVS, the consultant said that she would be born completely immune to cpox but run a slightly higher risk of getting shingles in childhood - I think the same is true of a young baby getting cpox. Exposing your kids in childhood seems sensible advice - especially the girls - would not want my daughter to get her first dose in pregnancy - it is v. nasty.

Shingles is meant to be very nasty isn't it? I think that's what you get when you are older if you haven't had chickenpox (could be wrong!!) I'm pretty sure it has some nasty side effects too.

None of my 3 (or me for that matter) started with them behind their ears. Sounds like CP to me.

I'm stuck at home with ds1, 3, (who is just getting over chickenpox) and ds2, 16 months, who is covered in spots. Had no sleep last night, and ds1 was up at 4.40am just to complete my nightmare......ds2 still shows no inclination to sleep even now. This has been going on for the past 8 days and I'm getting really fed up now. The boys are grouchy too.
