How long does this lurgy/virus last?

Ds is on day 2 and I am just starting to feel rubbish. I am assuming he is off nursery for a day or two or is it likely to be longer? This would come at the busiest time of year ... grrrrr! Poor mite looks awful though.

so far headache, cough and really runny nose/cold one with 103 degree temperature and general bleurgh feeling.

Dh and ds have got the chest infection one; dh has had it for a week and is still not better, ds started with a simple cold but then got chesty and has been ill for 3 or 4 days and seems to be getting worse if anything.

I'm completely behind with all the Christmas preparations as a result.

oh god don't say that ... I am so busy at work. Dp works for himself so we can't afford for him to be off for long. Thank god I have done the presents and wrapping. Fingers crossed he will recover in super quick time and mine disappears by morning!

so I can pretty much wipe out the whole of this week then by the sounds of it. I am sure I must be imagining my symptoms now ... have a sore throat and cough. Feel like going to bed for an hour or two but dp out until 8pm ish and ds is likely to wake up any minute now! not at all Myrrhcy!

I felt tired from wednesday, thursday night had sore throat, yesterday awful cough, headaches and sire throat and a fever. Today I have a bad head and cough and feel fine until I go to do anything.

Simply cannot have any time off work God knows how I am going to teach over excited kids all week.

The chest/throat/nose/temperature one lasts 10-14 days according to my GP (currently day 7 here and miserable as sin)

oh no ... 10-14 days ... that is a tad too close to christmas for my liking! did your gp give you anything for it TPL or do you just have to get on with it? Me too flouncer ... ds is watching ice age and I am under the duvet on mumsnet and checking how my things are selling on ebay!

Oh god, no, I can't do 10-14 days. We have chest/throat/nose/temperature.

DS2 came down with it on Tuesday, he seems ok today. I came down with it on Thursday night, I'm feeling ok today, but not great. Hoping to be up for leaving the house etc tomorrow.

this gets worse I was hoping people would come on and say they were fine after 24-48 hours ... so your ds had it for about 6 days notquitecockney?

Dd1 had it for 3 days, dd2 had it for 3 weeks and i had it for 2 weeks.

Yeah, he was coughing a bit on Tuesday morning. Got sent home from school. I kept him off on Wednesday. Thursday he was still coughing, but wanted to go in, so I let him. Then he got sent home. Again.

Friday he went in for the Xmas party, and was ok. Yesterday we didn't leave the house, nor today. He's on the mend, I think.

I started getting it late on Thursday. Today I left the house on purpose, and I've done some cooking. I don't feel anything near 100%, but I feel somewhat functional. No way will I be biking or running tomorrow, but maybe Tuesday.

No, the GP couldn't give me anything as it's 'just' a virus. And I am 39 weeks pregnant so can't even take the usual cold remedies. Have to say, this is the rubbishest virus I've had in a long time. DH had it for a week and DS came down with it yesterday - don't visit us whatever you do!

Ds has been lying down or asleep most of today (in between crying) I can't get him to eat anything.

Myrrhcy ... I am struggling to get ds to even drink let alone eat. That said he did just eat a jelly which I figure is mostly water or fruit juice anyway!

DD got it 14 days ago and although she is on the mend she still runs high fevers every night and is not eating.

I had it badly for about 3 days and then it turned into a normal cold and cough.

Oh well I don't know. About 2 weeks ago had awful throat and temp, very nasty for about 3 days. This time, ds started with bad coughing all night tuesday, was fine weds so went and did nativity, then really poorly weds night, coughing and temp all night, muttering etc. and headache.
Weds v pale, temp all night again
Thurs less ill but was sick from catarrh
Fri still not right, same sat and today - he has a really deep cough, but is active again at least.
I started with bad cough and temp yesterday, yukky today, but taking loads of paracetamol etc to suppress cough.
I have no idea how long in other words...

How old is your ds?

When mine were younger I used to leave cups or bottles of water and juice around the living room in the hope they would help themselves (it worked sometimes!)

My ds is nearly 5 and he gets very cross when he's ill and reverts to toddler days (just like dh really )
