thrush

Arrrghhh... I have thrush again. Have tried the cream which you inject up your fanjo, and the cream you apply daily but it seems to be having little effect. The advice is to wear cotton knickers and avoid tights and tight trousers, but in this weather it's really not likely I am going to be airing my fanjo all day long while I am at work.

What should I do? If I go to the doctors will they just keep giving me the creams?

have you tried the pessary? i've never used the cream duo but swear by the pessary.

beanieb · 01/12/2008 13:03

I think I'll go and get one tonight - would it be too soon after using the creams (Used the cream injection thing on Sat Night)

Also I am TTC but it got to be so painful that I tried the cream even though it says it's not advisable without a doctor's opinion on the box.

Do I need a doctor's note to get the oral tablet. Last time I went to the chemist to ask (About 6 years ago) they wouldn't let me have it because I hadn't been to the doctor!

cool. I think I am just a bit scared of asking as last time the bloke behind the counter gave me the third degree and then refused to sell it to me. This was years ago but still, it's a bot offputting having to have a loud conversation about thrush in front of a load of people and then get refused it!

Maybe I can get it from Tesco without having to ask?

OP posts:
beanieb · 01/12/2008 15:04

oh - also I suppose I just have to hope I am not pregnant and hope it isn't bad for me if I am?

coochybottom · 01/12/2008 16:35

You have to ask at a pharmacy. Asda & Sainsburys do their own brand loads cheaper. Not sure about taking when pregnant, think you may have to check about that. I really symapthise thrush is awful!

beanieb · 02/12/2008 10:17

ok - well just so you know I went to Tesco and Sainsbury last night and the Thrush 2 in one things were behind the counter. I didn't ask.

Stupid I know but after my experience a few years ago when the pharmacy person asked me very loudly about how many times I had had thrush in the past year (the answer was twice) and if I had been to the doctor yet (no) and if my partner was showing any symptoms (No) and then refused to let me have any, well I am just scared to ask.

I am 38 FFS, and I shouldn't feel so worried, but I felt like such an idiot last time I asked and I can't lie.

Tried to make an appointment with my doctor this morning but she's not there so am going to try tomorrow. They did offer for me to see a male doctor but to be honest I would prefer a woman plus I want to see my usual doctor who will have some kind of ida bout my other visits.

I feel like shit. My vulva is all swollen, when I pee it's like I have a cut or a scratch and it really stings. Maybe I have had a reaction to the creams?

go and get the tablet from chemist its called canestan once or boots do own brand which is £1 cheaper works within hours its pricey though about a tenner.
i took it last week after a week of the creams and was gone within hours such a relief!! when they ask all those questions just say no to them all and get the tablet

ELR · 02/12/2008 10:24

dont get the 2 in 1 just the oral tablet

beanieb · 02/12/2008 10:33

will they ask me loads of questions? I may as well go to my doctor tomorrow. I'm not even sure if it's thrush anymore. Maybe it's something worse. I have had repeated flare ups, a few bouts of cystitis and a urinary tract infection in the last year. I had antibiotics last time (Which usually give me thrush) which cleared up the infection.

I'm afraid I find it very hard to lie convincingly to chemists.

I've just been and got the cream and the oral wotsit from my doc (am in Italy and works out loads cheaper on prescription) She told me not to take the pill though until my period had been and gone as it might well come back again. (I was due on when I went, and am now mid-week)
She also told me not to eat fried food (????) and to drink lots of actimel-type stuff.
She also said dp needs to take the pill as well, even if he has no symptoms as half the time it's their fault, they're the carriers but get away with now't while we writhe about and get through lots of pants!
Good luck.xx

ELR · 02/12/2008 10:37

they only asked me if i had had thrush in last 6 months i said no think they asked if i was diabetic too that was it xx

beanieb · 02/12/2008 10:47

I am due on in about 4 - 6 days.

I am in so much pain. I feel like someone has forced entry

When I wipe it really really hurts, and particularly hurts at the entrance to my vagina, as if I have been cut.

I have n't had sex for something like a week and the pains didn't start immediately afterwards. I think I should just go and see a doctor, any doctor...

Can you get a friend to go and get you something? I know I would if I was your friend. Just answer any questions the way you know they want you to answer them so you can get what you need. Last time I got some old woman teling me to wear skirts and cotton knickers. I just said yeah, yeah, got the pill and left quickly. If it then doesnt clear up go to your doc. xxx

welshlinz · 02/12/2008 13:09

hi beanieb, I suffer with extremely bad thrush every month which sounds exactly as you are describing ( swollen, raw, bleeding ). I have found a miracle cure for me which is a couple of drops of tea tree oil in the bath every night and also diluted as a wash when the itching / pain starts to become unbearable. It really soothes and is safe to use in pregnancy ( as I am now 9 wks pregnant and suffering with a bout again !! )

On the up side though, you say you are ttc...I got my worst bout ever on the month I discovered we'd conceived so fingers crossed xx

beanieb · 02/12/2008 13:20

THANKS Welshlinz. I hope that I am pregnant but I doubt it as I have such bad emotional pmt at the moment and so I figure my Period is due any time now.

I'm only 9dpo but have had these symptoms about 4 days and steadily getting worse. Am going to go to get the pill tonight (thrush pill thing, not THE pill!) and book in with my dr tomorrow.

Am freaking myself out thinking I have Herpes

OP posts:
beanieb · 02/12/2008 17:32

Now have the pessary but an't use it as I am ttc and also seem to have some cuts on my vagina. Drs tomorrow I guess,

OP posts:
coochybottom · 02/12/2008 18:07

Put the pessary in now!!! I think it is just the pill you cant take if pregnant. I also get those cuts you mention. They are agony. Have you got some cream to put on them?

beanieb · 02/12/2008 18:13

I have cream but was worrying it was giving me a weird reaction. Are the welts and cuts normal for thrush then? I haven't had sex for over a week so really don't think it's anything to do with sex etc

Sorry for being such a wimp - I am just worried. If I see the doc tomorrow will it matter too much if I put the pessary in now?

OP posts:
coochybottom · 02/12/2008 18:20

I think they can occur with thrush although I did read something in a magazine about some other skin disorder that can cause it "down there" too. If you definately have appt tomorrow probs best wait for her to examine you. I used to get thrush a lot and started taking a daily garlic supplement and dont get it much now. Interestingly it was when I too was ttc (got twins after 4 years trying conceived naturally, so watch out!) think it was a combination of the stress and having sex all the time!!!

beanieb · 02/12/2008 18:50

I did a pregnancy test (negative) and put the pessary up. I doubt I am pregnant, I never am!

OP posts:
coochybottom · 02/12/2008 20:25

Oh I know how you feel. I know I am deviating from the subject but how long have you been trying? We already had one DS and had all the tests which found nothing wrong. I remember how upset and stressed I used to feel. Ended up crying one day in Tescos cos I had come on again and saw a baby!
