My PMT has got to such a level that it scares me. 2 days ago I told DH I wanted to leave, to live alone, I didn;'t want any of 'this' that we have.....My period arrived a week early today and its like switch has been flicked and I'm sane again.....I ...

I'm having a mirena coil in a few weeks that will hopefully help but if there any chnace that it could make my PMT worse I just cannot risk it.
All I feel is anger and sadness from the time OV (around day 8 of my cycle) until I get my period. It sounds extreme but its ruining my life...all of our lives TBH.

What else can I do?

I really do recommend acupuncture. It seemed to really rebalance me. No one keen?

Buda, Where/How would I find a good acupucturist local to me?

OP posts:
ladytophamhatt · 02/11/2008 12:16

sobernow, thats how I used to feel about taking stuff to help (which is ridiculous concidering how much illegal stuff I regulary took in my teens/early 20's) but now I can't see any way around it.

Evening primrose etc woukd take too long.

The thing with acupuncture is that I cant get my head around how it works. So I just think its one of those "all in the mind" things. Am happy for someone to explain it to me and convert me though

NorthernLurker · 02/11/2008 12:56

Re the mini pill - since I stopped taking it I find I am suffering from pmt far more than I ever used to - so yes posssibly my experience suggests it does work. I think I will have to try some vitamin B.....

Buda · 02/11/2008 16:03

LTH - I was living in Vietnam when I had it - happened to be an American girl there who was studying Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

I had had acupuncture before in UK for hayfever - again I found it really helped. In that case I just looked one up in the yellow pages.

MoreSpam - I am not quite sure how it works tbh! It is to do with rebalancing certain things I think. I am generally open to alternative health methods generally so tend to adopt a try it and see approach.

The needles are NOT painful. You then lie there and let things work which is relaxing in itself.

Chaotica · 02/11/2008 16:28

Mirena has worked for me so far (although only 6 weeks in...) and my pmt was awful post DC2 with migraines as well - don't know whether mirena can make it worse (sorry!).

MrsJohnCusack · 02/11/2008 18:54

oh I am horrible and awful and irrational for a good week-10 days, it's just (ha) then one or two days before I become completely mad - threaten leaving, scream at everyone like a banshee, have hysterics, plunge into deep depression. then just before it arrives I often get a migraine like headache and am sick - like last night (I feel grim this morning, have been up half the night and the children have helpfully been up 2 times each for some unknown reason)

yours does sound very extreme though LTH. I am starting the new pills today (I was on ADs anyway for PND, am now swapping because both me and the doc reckon the problem now is basically PMT). period is just arriving so should have time to kick in properly before ovulation and the next period so we'll see if makes any difference...

ThemasterandmarGOREitas · 02/11/2008 19:07

sympathies LTH, I am exactly the same, you can ask the lovely LG&T on here who talked me out of leaving my dh some months ago, 24 hours before my AF arrived. Do you find it is like this every month or like me, every other month, perhaps when ovulating from a particular side?

I started taking vit B about a month ago and doing a lot of exercise and this month I was quite irritable but not as bad as normal.

Fingers crossed it gets better. In a funny kind of a way I would be happy if the old menopause should arrive early if it meant no more stroppy me

MrsJohnCusack · 02/11/2008 21:30

actually, the master, I think mine is worse every other month

last month not too bad (mind you I was in Melbourne on my own having fun which probably helped), this month hellish. HELLISH

purpleduck · 02/11/2008 21:39

I find mine is worse if I have too much caffeine and sugar

WinkyWinkola · 02/11/2008 21:40

Does it really make a difference which side you ovulate from ?

How do you know which side it is? I never get any indication but I have fierce PMT.

KanyedFrot · 02/11/2008 21:48

Many sympathies here too - mine is awful.

I have a few days after OV when I am dreadful (this month a stonking migraine too how wonderful)...usually very tearful fora day or so then just a complete bitch for about a week...then it goes off a bit and the physical symptoms appear - boobs that feel someone has hung melons on the end of them and usually a bout of thrush.

I feel so great for the first 10 or so days...then it all goes to pot.

I have been taking agnus castus for about 4-5 months now and it does help a bit with the phyiscal symptoms but not mood.

Acupuncture is great for hormonal things IME but it's so expensive. I would probably recommend trying it though, and keep meaning to go back and have some more myself.

twoisplenty · 02/11/2008 21:50

re: acupuncture. I had acupuncture for ovulation in order to become pregnant. (My periods were non existant before). IT WORKS! My system got back into rhythm, and I just felt so serene after having each treatment. So if it regulates my cycle, surely it will regulate your hormones too. If you can find a good acupuncturist, then go for it. It's fantastic!

WinkyWinkola · 02/11/2008 22:06

What about anger management - for those who feel rage during PMT? Do you think that might work? Or hypnosis?

MrsJohnCusack · 03/11/2008 00:01

oh actually I'm not sure it will make any difference what side I ovulate from, seeing as I only have one ovary

dur

could come down either tube maybe except I think one is pretty knackered. maybe I don't ovulate every month or something? dunno. my insides are something of a mess so anything could be going on frankly

am def going to consider acupuncture, and maybe hypnotherapy; I just never get round to organising these things. because the rage is appalling

ladytophamhatt · 03/11/2008 07:47

Acyually, mine does seem worse on alternate months.

The "easy" months is still horrific and I'm a raging nutjob but the "bad" months i can on't descibe as a type of psychosis. There isn't a single thought inside my head that is rational.

I sadi to DH "Not making a joke of it but women have commented murder under a PMT rage and walked away from court without a prison sentence....When I'm in the midst of the rage I have no control over my thoughts, emotions...anything and it scares me"

I don't mean I want to kill him, its not that bad but when I say I want to leave, I don't want any of 'this' I mean every single word.....

GPs opens in 13 mintues, will be calling fot an appt then....

I found this about acupuncture and pmt.

Seems to be a bit of info around if you google.

I really really cannot recommend it highly enough.

MrsJohnCusack · 03/11/2008 08:44

LTH, I am currently experiencing one of those psychotic months. it is pure fucking hell. So I completely identify with you.
good luck at the docs

thanks too buda for that

penona · 03/11/2008 08:51

Am reading this with interest - have hideous PMT since kids born and doesn't seem to be getting better. The first 6 mths or so was in terrible pain and violently sick - GP said it would pass, which it did, but has left behind RAGE like I have never known. Just as you all describe - rage, anger, no rational thoughts, just a burning desire to walk out of this life. It is awful.

I had acupuncture to support fertility treatment, and it was great. But just way too impractical with twins, and too expensive having to organise childcare etc. I am intrigued about limited use of Prozac - I had excellent results with that years ago for depression. How often is it taken?

ladytophamhatt · 03/11/2008 10:08

I have an appt at 11:50 penora, so I'll let youknwo what the GP says.

Thanks for the link Buda, I'll give it some thought....

I just posted a very simialr thread LTH! I didn't see this thread.

BiggestFirework · 03/11/2008 10:13

Depo (no period)and Prozac seemed to have worked for me. I still slightly irritated but not to same extreme as I did pre-Prozac/depo.

I hope your GP can help you out.

CharleeInChains · 03/11/2008 10:24

I can't take the combined pill as i have a history of blood clots. I have tried loads of different P.O.P's and i have bled continuously on all of them.
