For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

you may have noticed a surprising absence of mention of F&V ...

must try harder

hammouhouseofhorror · 16/10/2008 11:09

hi daisy, I am doing the F & V but nothing new or different to add to list.

Waiting for a visitor who is 3/4 hr late and I have to go to work soon. So aimlessly nosying in Mn.

Feel like snuggling with a furry blanket and having a snooze...feels the pull of red bull but tries to resist. I'll be good and have an apple instead, do you want one Daisy?

daisy99divine · 16/10/2008 11:15

Yum, thanks, just what I need!

TigerFeet · 16/10/2008 13:04

Hello everyone

Collar/lost - would you consider ending your current relationships? It may well be easier to sort out what you want if you are by yourself. SO sorry you find yourselves where you are.

P&B - would love to meet up - are you on FB (apols if yo are already a friend on there - my initials are CBC and I am mates with assorted MNers, some of whom I have no clue of their MN identities )

Can I have an apple please?

Salad (2)
The paltry amount of fruit that appears in a yogurt.

TooT I will pass your squash questions onto dh, he will know

OsmosisBOOnana · 16/10/2008 13:28

i have met 2 MNers. Do I get a badge?

Riven / needmorecoffee is a very nice lady and her house smelt of home made curry - a good sign in my opinion.

I also met Charlotte121 but only briefly as had to leave to come to uni but she seemed v nice too.

banana
bit of parsnip / apple soup

I know what you mean about neeps TooT, i don'#t trust them unless heavily disguised... DH loves them so I buy them occasionally only to watch them sink into a state of rotten-ness.

TigerFeet · 16/10/2008 13:39

MMM curry. I have leftover roast chicken, and a plan. Mmmmmmm.

Glad it was good OsBa

Frannyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!

BBBee · 16/10/2008 17:39

oh franny how lovely.

we miss you. Hope all is good with you

I made a lovely tomato sauce with 6 tins of toms, 3 onions and lots of garlic and cooked it for ages. I am worryingly excited about it!

Boco · 16/10/2008 17:46

Hello, hope things are going well Franny.

Enjoy your tea Beee.

Have just spent all afternoon in the hospital with dd2 - went for pneumonia check up and they did tests and chest scans etc. Took 2 1/2 hours, but she was very good. They want to test for lots of odd things, but are giving her a trial of singulair first - unless the pneumonia returns - then they're looking at various underlying things. Was hoping for reassurance but am now just confused. They don't answer direct questions!

berolina · 16/10/2008 17:54

Thank you Franny

Boco is singulair an asthma medication? I am on a v v good one called Viani, not sure about its suitability for children. What would be underlying to pneumonia at this age? Sorry it left you confused. Ikwym entirely about them not answering direct questions. Over here they don't tend to answer any questions, as it is obviously a bit beneath them to communicate with patients unless you are like me who is very bolshy direct, and that shocks them into giving information. I have my title on my insurance card and am tempted every time to answer the inevitable question 'are you a medical doctor?' with 'yes'.

I am making the boys 'Heaven and Earth' - fried potato and apple.

Must go and read to ds1.

BBBee · 16/10/2008 17:57

oh dear boco - how annoying - I thought it would be reassuring too. But I suppose it is not alarming and it is not fobbing off - just confusing!!!

Boco · 16/10/2008 18:01

Not sure - when I asked what underlying things they were testing for she said they'd do a sweat test, blood tests, check kidney function,, they'd be looking at immune problems and cystic fibrosis. I said surely we'd know already if it was something like that - and she didn't say anything. She was good though, showed me the x-rays from before and explained what was wrong and where.

TooTicky · 16/10/2008 18:08

Good luck Boco. Shout at them if necessary, but in a controlled way. Actually no, do what 100x would do. She'd make them feel like school children who'd just weeed on the floor.

I have cooked 7 apples. There is rice pudding in the oven. Am cooking carrots and leeks.

Bee, I should make a sauce like that. Do you ever add lentils?

Where is Lully? And Tatties' two weeks has been awfully long. And I keep missing SB

Boco · 16/10/2008 18:11

Well it was this afternoon, i've just seen them. They were very nice and very thorough, just not wanting to talk about what they were looking for or might look for. I suppose they don't see the point. But anyway, hopefully this new singulair will help - it's a chewy tablet - not heard of it before.

BBBee · 16/10/2008 18:12

really boco? that does sound rather alarming - don't google though! When will you get to find out more? when do you go back? I think if it is a long time it might be worth making an appointment with the GP to talk through the possibilities perhaps? Are you worried or baffled?

Toot - I haven't because I like cooking ti slowly so all the liquid goes and it is unctious and lovely - i could add lentils at the start thgouh couldn't I? they are all super foody aren't they!

Boco · 16/10/2008 18:14

Dunno. I will be reassured when she gets healthy again and doesn't look so peeky.

I go back in a couple of months for tests is singulair doesn't work, or if she has another attack or infection they'll do them straight away. So, could work and all be fine, lets hope.

TooTicky · 16/10/2008 18:14

Red lentils Bee. They need to be cooked soft before you add any stock/saltiness though or they won't soften. But I love a lentilly sauce.

OsmosisBOOnana · 16/10/2008 18:51

How frustrating Boco

sauce sounds good. I never bother making my own tom sauce, what do you use it for?

Tatties · 16/10/2008 19:48

Hello lovely veggers

Things been a bit stressy but hopefully will be sorted within a few weeks now. I probably won't be around much until we are settled, but I am (and have been) thinking of you all! I am sorry I can't catch up with the thread (and I like to be up to speed which is why I find it hard to jump back in when I've been away)

Boco hope you get some reassurance soon

Tea beckons me xxx

pinkandbluespottywellies · 16/10/2008 19:55

at making them feel like schoolchildren who weed!!!

Don't give Daisy any more apples. She already has about 10 a day. And it doesn't count for all your 10

I am 10/10 today. 10 stone 10 (in the afternoon on PILs scales - my morning weight at home is 10 and a half!

I have to work tonight. On the computer. Online. Child protection training so I must concentrate and not come on MN It should take me about 2 hours. If I can stay off here and facebook! (I'll look you out TF - it's quite possible we're friends and I don't realise!) So I'm having a few more ins while I eat my tea and then I am OFF here til later. Send me away if you see me.

And yes TooT I should have gone to bed much earlier tonight. I felt it today [naughty] I'll go to bed earlier tonight [good intentions]

fumf · 16/10/2008 20:00

ha! amateurs...

Hello!
I have had a storming day, bananas, apple, strawberries, blueberries, veg soup with at least 4 portions in, and green beans and brocolli with dinner.

I have made the dearest little christmas cakes in tins to give as presents, once they are iced. I also ate rather a lot of the raw mixture (so apples, rasisins, cherries, sultanas too)

Lostatsea and collareddove - it is breaking my heart to read your posts, knowing that I 'know' you, yet not knowing who are you...
I have no advice but would like to offer you hippy hugs and peace. Sorry to come over all lentil-weavery but... x x

pinkandbluespottywellies · 16/10/2008 20:03

I was thinking that about CD and LAS fumf hope they can offload enough under those names or email any of us if they want to. ((hugs)) too.

pinkandbluespottywellies · 16/10/2008 20:06

Ha! Amatuers

Tatties · 16/10/2008 20:28

Fumf! I haven't forgotten about green dress but got waylaid. All the pics I took of it were crap. Shall I just post it to you and you can see if you like it?

Oh congratulations Pink about the blue one
