About 5 years ago I got a tiny cyst on my outer vaginal lip - went to GP who froze the spot and cut it out there and then . Probably size of half a pea. Since then I get recurrent spot/lump/something type thing in the same spot. It can get quite itchy although isn't always. I probably get them 4 times a year.

Should I go back to my doctor? Or is it just some scar tissue getting inflamed that they wouldn't be able to do anything about?

Thank you for any advice you could give

Go to your doctor!!

You need to get it checked even if it turns out to be nothing

Oh noooooooooooo. I thought someone was going to say that. But hoped they wouldn't. And then I could carry on ignoring it.

I think I thought that because it was outside it seometimes seemed less serious IYKNWIM.....but will book appointment on Monday.

Well go to your doctor but if it was investigated at the initial appointment and it was not an STD you might find that it is a plain old spot. Yes you can suffer 'down there' with acne type 'cysts' apparently. Do you wash your bits alot? This can actually make the situation worse

IB - it wasn't investigated as such. He just said in "old school doctor" style - well we can sort that out her and now. And he did.

I'm certainly clean but I don't use soap as I instinctively thought that would make it worse.

I had a skin specialist look at mine when I went to the GUM clinic to check a 'cyst' out. Assured me it was a 'spot'. You might have something different but I suffer sporadically and they are very painful.

Pop down the GUM clinic they will sort you out no worries!

It is possible you know it's a blocked sweat gland - since it keeps coming back. Personally I'd see a different GP and ask for a second opinion.

Thanks IB. I hadn't thought of going to a GUM clinic. Think that is what I will do in the first instance.

It could be a sebaceous cyst that keeps refilling iyswim.

But if he cut it out?

not sure, best to get it looked at...dreadful to do I know!

INGMCS - OUCH is definitely right! It was bloody awful!!!!!!!! But at the time it seemed worth it as it seemed it would solve it.

If it's not oozy and it is red, then most likely it's a gland rather than a spot. If you press it, does it hurt? Yes, go to the GUM clinic. They will be more experienced in looking at fanjos in any case so won't just give it a cursory glance but look at it with a proper light etc.

FYI you should have a LOT of lignacaine before any sort of excision down there, there are a lot of nerve endings!

To be fair he did freeze it - it still bloooooody hurt though....was sat in a salt bath for about 3 hours afterwards!

Seems a fairly brutal course of action without proper tests and swabs! I was told to not use any bath stuff/soap and to actually not be too 'scrupulous' IYKWIM!

Urgh - they normally only freeze genital warts! You shouldn't freeze spots because frankly it doesn't work. All it does is kill the cells round the spot - the underlying infection or susceptibility is not destroyed

Is there any chance the doc was tactfully trying not to mention an infection?

Not sure. I don't think so as he's not that sort of Dr. Known him for years and I don't think the word tact is in his dictionary.

And he showed me the cyst afterwards after he had cut it out and definitely called it a cyst. And he just froze the area to numb it and then cut it with a scalpel (rather than just froze it off IYSWIM).

Surely he would have told me if it was a genital wart exactly in case it did re-occur?

My DS1 had a small cyst on his lower eyelid. Took him to Dr with it, he took a clean pin and openned it up, gave it a squeeze and what came out looked like a blob of Dairylea. It too has refilled a bit.
Dr told me at the time that you must just break the skin and push it out like a spot.

OK - may be brave and try that then CC - all I'm thinking at the moment is MEGA OUCH!!!!

(Poor DS1 - that sounds horrid for him!! )

ZF - I had a lump ages ago - I thought there was something seriously wrong but the doctor said leave it and lo and behold it did go away. It comes back if I get really run down. You aren't a freak don't worry!

He was very brave, and a well 'ard almost 14 year old. He was releaved to get rid of it as it was almost in his eye.

I had one and very carefully put tea tree oil on it. It got better quite quickly after that. Be very careful not to get the tea tree oil anywhere else though!
