For anyone who wants a boost to their general health (and to talk bobbins with a load of fruity nutters). The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

How do you pronounce quinoa?

I always say keen-wah but whenever someone (brit or american, it matters not) hears me say it they go " do you mean kwin-oh-ah?"

Am I wrong? Is there some sort of conspiracy to make me say keen-wah so everyone can laugh at me behind my back?

TooTicky · 17/09/2008 09:09

It is supposed to be keen-wah. It says so on all the packets. But I say quin-oh-a because I feel somehow pretentious saying keen-wah.

Dd2 wants to ride her tricycle to toddler group

pinkspottywellies · 17/09/2008 09:15

Morning! No exercise yesterday due to lack of salsa but went to friends house and had apple crumble instead.

Supposed to be going swimming tonight but have been roped into toddler group meeting inthepub which will no doubt overrun and friend who was coming swimming has non-sleeping baby atm so don't think she'll be up for it anyway

Might do 10 mins on the stepper although popular opinion is that's what made Mon so shite (did stepper on Sun night).

Did ok for F&v yest but not having museli at the mo, we're on shredded wheat so I'm missing my morning raisins. And can't drink juice in front of dd or she wants it! So that's more difficult too!

When will she stop repeating herself all day? 'Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig, George Pig, Peppa, Upstairs...' repeat for half an hour then switch to 'play Thomas trains..' repeat.

She says my full name which I think is hilarious! She must have heard me saying it on the phone.

Glad the wrist thing turned out ok SB. Hope the mornings at school make things easier LR. Hello and hope everyone's ok everyone else!

pinkspottywellies · 17/09/2008 09:16

Ah lovely TooT. You'll have a nice slow relaxing walk looking at all the flowers [fixed smile] DD is going in the pram to take dh's lunch this morning

OsmosisBanana · 17/09/2008 11:40

I've left my lunch at home! Arse!

OsmosisBanana · 17/09/2008 13:04

saved by M&S.

I'll post it again if no-one else has anything to add.

TooTicky · 17/09/2008 13:29

On the way back from toddler group, I am devastated delighted to announce an new record......we travelled about 15 yards in 10 minutes. Really.
It's amazing quite how many seating/walking/pushing/strapped/unstrapped combinations there are for one small girl, two dollies, a banana, two apples, two very wet paintings, a leaf and their tricycle.
I was really good for ages and there was no shouting at all but at one point I did sday, somewhat despairingly, "PLEASE can we move a bit - I can't just stand here all day."
I could hear the snails chuckling.

I made a risotto sort of thing last night with rice, quinoa, bulgar wheat, spinach, courgette, garlic, onion and nutmeg. It was delicious. Have just finished leftovers.

We have found the most wonderful Woodcraft Folk group. Really friendly and fun

OsmosisBanana · 17/09/2008 13:34

Yay! A friend! Where is everyone these days? Has Fran gone on holiday or is she taking an actual sabbatical from MN?

I am getting horrendously bogged down at work... big jobs, 2 days to get them all done. Still, what they gonna do if they're not finished on time? Fire me? [evil cackle]

OsmosisBanana · 17/09/2008 13:35

I haven't seen Stuffit (for obv reasons), Wombling or Bero recently either.

MamaG · 17/09/2008 13:37

I just waddled around Kendal for an hour, so thats 6 days worth surely? God I'm knackered now

2 apples
raisins
bit of red pepper

TooTicky · 17/09/2008 13:41

Lie back and put your feet up OB

Bero is having a break but sends love.
Franny may still be camping?

Is that where you live ManaG? I went there years ago - I love lakes.

pinkspottywellies · 17/09/2008 13:42

Actual sabatical OsBa. Scary isn't it. Apparently there's a whole world out there of other things to do

TooT did the snail chuckles fade as they dissappeared into the distance glad you, dd and the apples, banana, tricyle, wet paintings etc had a nice walk! What goes on at this here Woodcraft Folk group?

I had humous and tomatoes (with pitta and lamb) for lunch. Hungry again now so I will go and eat fruit.

I'm working again tonight. 2 days in a row, how unsavoury!! (although it is only about an hour and a half each night!)

MamaG that's very impressive exercise/waddling

MamaG · 17/09/2008 13:43

I work in Kendal Toot, but live 24 miles away in a more rural area.

TooTicky · 17/09/2008 13:48

Woodcraft Folk

MamaG, are you in idyllic Ransome country?

OsmosisBanana · 17/09/2008 13:50

More folk! Huzzah!

You sound in fine fettle today it must be said PSW. Lamb / humous pita concoction sounds lovely, they used to sell things like that in the UAE (obviously....) at little street shops, all gorgeous and dripping in tahini, lamb juice etc etc.

God dammit, now my M&S lunch seems rather poor. And I shall have to eat the lunch I left in the fridge when I get home for dinner. Rubbish.

How goeth the pregnancies??

TooT - I don't let DD know about walking. We leave the house in the pram or on my shoulders. She is only 21 months though. One day I shall have to let her do the 'walkeeen' 'walkeeen' she shrieks down my ears.

I have been inspired by that rather annoying fellow (annoying possibly because he sounds like every chap I used to go out with as gurl) on 'what to eat now' and have ordered 2 rabbits from the butcher.

I am determined also to go foraging for mushroom type things.

Well, can you call wandering around a farmers market foraging? Am not sure.

MamaG · 17/09/2008 13:52

Toot - ish [vague]

Osba - I watched that prog, the bloke's chin irritated me a bit. DH enthusiastically decided to go shoot some rabbits for the freezer . He hasn't yet though.

MamaG · 17/09/2008 13:53

oh and I'd LOVE to forage for mushrooms, but would be too scared of eating a writhing-in-pain-death-cap or something

TooTicky · 17/09/2008 14:04

I don't know the area well anyway MamaG - still anyway

Rabbits?

I have a book called Food for Free which is good and informative about mushrooms as well as other things but I lack the confidence to actually forage and eat them. In other countries there are lots of courses and people pick their own much more.

OsmosisBanana · 17/09/2008 14:08

I would only pick the ones I recognise.... and DH has a book, probably many books actually on fungi and identifying them

I reckon I could identify puff balls, jews ears, ceps without too much fear.

I went mushrooming (t'other sort!) many moons ago but a million other hippies had got there before us...

So we went on a walk and found a field full of the most enormous puff balls.

Gorgeous just marinaded briefly in worc sauce or soy, a little bit of garlic and some chilli then fried like a great big steak.

Am drooling thinking about it. Hopefully DH will think of somewhere cunning to go.

SuperBunny · 17/09/2008 14:35

My Dad always used to go puffballing. I hated them as a child but reckon I'd find them quite tasty now. And he gets rabbits and pheasants and things from his local game keeper. They'd always be whole so we'd have to 'deal' with them. I'd much rather eat meat like that than farmed stuff. Although it doesn't appeal at all anymore.

Strangely, I was craving tuna yesterday. Tinned tuna. I don't even like it. Seems to have gone today which is a relief. If I am going to not be vegetarian I would like it to be for something a bit more exciting than tinned tuna.

ANyway, I am rambling. Must go and take DS to playgroup. On his tricycle So, I do empathise Toot. Wish me luck and much patience.

MamaG · 17/09/2008 16:12

I would LOVE to have a big puffball mushroom. I really really love mushrooms and often have them in a butty, with tinned toms (don't eat meat, so have mushrooms in place of bacon).

God I wish I had some mushrooms in now, I'd have that for tea!

SuperBunny · 17/09/2008 18:07

I wish I could convince DS that mushrooms are a good alternative for meat. He loves meat but doesn't get any when with me. And he refuses to eat mushrooms. And onions. How do you convince children that they are actually very good to eat?

Guadalupe · 17/09/2008 18:52

I'm sure there were some liberty caps growing in my chillis but they shrivelled up. Hope they didn't impart any weirdness as it's quite a good crop.
