For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

OB, we must talk about campsites. I am a camping novice, my main experience having been Quaker camps, around 60 people, marquee, cooking tent, tea tent, etc.
Where is good and local?

TooTicky · 28/08/2008 23:19

SuperBunny, for you....

Hungarian Apple Cake

8oz plain flour
2oz margarine, melted
2oz brown sugar
2 eating apples
1tsp easyblend yeast
approx. 3floz soya milk, warmed
1 tsp brown sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon

Mix flour with yeast and 2oz sugar. Peel (I didn't), core and finely chop one of the apples and add to the bowl with the margarine. Combine well, then add enough soya milk to make a soft dough.
Turn out onto floured board, knead well, return to bowl, cover and leave to rise for an hour in a warm place.
Knead again, put in greased 7" round tin, pressing out to fill the tin. Leave to rise for 40 minutes.
Peel (or not), core and slice the other apple and arrange on the top. Sprinkle with tsp sugar and cinnamon.
Cover with foil and bake at 200c for 20 minutes, remove foil and bake for 10 minutes more.
It is divine, especially warm.

Forgot to say, credit for recipe to Linda Majzlik in her book A Vegan Taste of Eastern Europe.

TooTicky · 28/08/2008 23:23

Oh Bee, are you about? Those jeans you gave to me at the meet up.... I can't get into them any more, so have passed them on to dd1, and they fit her! The child is growing up [mixed emoticons]

BBBee · 29/08/2008 00:27

oh toot - how nice, she is all big. must be strange though.

I am around but supposed to be working which I am crap at - so flitting around on her.

This thread is the worst for me - I can get drawn in for hours so have being doing a bit of a womble lurky lurk.

SuperBunny · 29/08/2008 01:52

OOo, how brave DD1 is, Toot. I am very impressed with her. To go out by yourself and enjoy it isn't always easy. She sounds very mature.

There used to be a nice campsite in Priddy, Toot. Don't know what it is like now. Also, we used to go to the Forest of Dean a lot. That's not too far from you, is it? Or Brecon if you fancy somewhere a bit more remote.

Thanks for cake recipe - sounds yummy. The orchards open this weekend so we will go picking sometime next week, I think.

Cantaloupe (2)
Quinoa w/ Ratatouille, chick peas and carrots (2, maybe 3)
Bananas (2.5)
Orange

Morning all!
FK - the heartbeat one (complete with sheep poo)
I am a little worried as it was supposed to be a nice chilled end to the summer camp but has escalated with loads of other people inviting themselves along. They will be noisy and piss me other campers off and we will get chucked off in the wee hours and we are getting their first so everyone has said: ''oh save us a space...3 campervans and 3 tents, yeah right!)'' so I am all fretful instead of excited.
At work now, very tired. We had a friend in crisis staying over last night and he wanted to talk until 1am then a stupid burglar/car alarm went off someehere throughut the night.

BabiesEverywhere · 29/08/2008 09:25

at Franny's 6 hours sleep

How come people have eaten 5 pieces of fruit by 9am !!! Or is that yesterdays fruit ?

I had a grand total of 2 apples yesterday. Had a social visit from head midwife to see how we were doing. She commented on how much weight I had lost !!! Surprised me with the amount of rubbish I am eating, tandem nursing must take up more calories than I thought.

Bad back and sore CS wound, I did far too much housework yesterday, so today will be a minimum moving day...ouch

filthymindedvixen · 29/08/2008 09:26

hoorah for BE

(melon)

Guadalupe · 29/08/2008 09:31

Oh well, done BE. I think the pie weight is starting to shift but that might be the enormous tofu stir-fry i ATE LAST NIGHT WITH NO RICE, and, I did not fancy a drink. Hoorah.

FMV - Our campsite is full, completely chokkablock. Just sPoke to the owner and she has squeezed us in tomorrow but I want to go TONIGHT.

mANGO, blueberries, banana and passonfruit.

OsmosisBanana · 29/08/2008 09:51

Mornin'

TooT - we normally go to Wales. Anywhere in the Black Mountains is good. Lots of hospitable framers with fields who don't give a flying fuck what you get up to but are liable to come and stare from time to time.

Ooooh. Mummy. Look at the hippies.

Anyway, Tintagel good. Also Llantony. Have spelt that wrong but am in rush.

Prob being evicted from allotment today (rolls about laughing) so have to go and cover the lot in weed membrane so it looks like we're 'on it'.

marmite
tea

impressive non?

Am feeling subversive today. Not loving the ugly pictures of me that are emerging at Shamalalalalala.

Have good days, I go to do battle with a strimmer. A petrol one with blades no less. It's Stihl. Strokes lovingly.

Guadalupe · 29/08/2008 10:20

I love the black mountains, we might try and go back to that barn we stayed in on the border. We don't usually go back somewhere twice but it was so lovely. Haven't camped there though.

peasoup · 29/08/2008 11:30

We stayed in Black mountains on way back from Solfest for one night- well wasn't really on the way home but worth a detour. Stunning scenery. We are now fantasising about upping sticks form London and moving there.Ate a load of crap last nite as still haven't done a food shop since getting back, so one fish finger, frozen peas and broccoli, and tatties. Pretty dire.
But...have jsut been for a run!!! Only done about ten thirty minute runs since giving birth to DS nearly three years ago, so that's quite an occasion. Perhaps it was glancing through this thread and feeling peer pressure! Will try and do something tofu-ish tonight and report back.

MamaG · 29/08/2008 11:31

wow at 6 hours sleep! Oh the luxury of the evil swaddle...!

BabiesEverywhere - think you need a day on the sofa with chocolate and tea! sod the housework.

peasoup · 29/08/2008 11:31

Oh yeah and people came round last night so also had beer and twiglets

Guadalupe · 29/08/2008 11:56

Oh peasoup, you are back. How can you eat only one fishfnger? I like four in a pitta bread with lemon, rocket, red onion and mayonnaise, in fact I might have that for dinner. Well done on the running. I haven't been since my hysterectomy in May. It all still feels a bit loose.

I have yearnings for the countryside and chickens now and then. Although, I am fancying London at the moment. Some more very good friends moved their last week, now hardly any of our good university friends are still here, mind you, mst of them haven't started having children yet. They'll be back!

Also, dh is about to start a project in London that will take weeks and weeks so he'll be there at least monday to wednesday. Very annoying. Bit too far to commute really.

peasoup · 29/08/2008 12:45

I only ate one fishfinger cos all i was doing was picking at the remains of DS's "low rent" dinner I'd made him and he hadn't finished. We were having people over, so i was too busy pushing furniture around, tidying (throwing all the Solfest gear that was still lying around the living room up the stairs and into the store room) to make DH and I any dinner.
I think Twiglets and beer were all he had that night.
That sounds like one hell of a posh fish finger butty you make yourself there! Must give it a go sometime. Caramalised red onion or raw?
I don't like the "loose" adjective you use to describe the Hysto effect
We've been down London about twelve years now and camping for those five nights really brought it all back and made us certain we need to get back out again. Wales seems cheap and cheerful (comparatively speakin) and DH won't go too far North as thinks it pisses down all the time. i was quite delighted that we got loads of lovely sunshine at Solfest as I think he had to adjust his grim view of the North from that.
What project is your DH up to? I love the word "project"; it always sounds exciting. I'm addicted to "projects" (I'm addicted to starting them anyway; not always so great at finishing them

BabiesEverywhere · 29/08/2008 13:03

Darn, wish I had read your post earlier mamag Chocolate & sofa sounds a much better choice.

Instead I have wash, dried, sorted out four loads of washing / cleaned bathroom & kitchen / emptied and reload dishwasher / aired house / tidied living room AND in my spare minutes inbetween I have entertained / changed nappies / emptied potties / nursed two / made breakfast & lunch.....for a toddler and a newborn on very little sleep...argghhh

Baked Beans
Apple

Guadalupe · 29/08/2008 13:04

It is a superior fishfinger sandwich. I use raw red onion and have a cold glass of wine. Usually on the sofa after children are in bed.

Project sounds more exciting than it is. He is a project engineer for a telecoms company and they will be overseeing the installation of something or other for someone or other. I can't complain really, he has had a lot of time off, both when I was ill and over August, in fact he has been off for most of August.

Yes, sorry about loose! Running doesn't feel right yet, I guess it needs a bit longer to feel healed. I might go to the gym. Yeah right! Actually I might.

I like Wales. I am half Welsh on my mother's side. Last time we went though we rowed and dh threw the car keys in a bush and we were stranded. He is still paying for this.

berolina · 29/08/2008 15:37

Belated answer to your question BE - that was today's fruit! (To be fair, it was 10am already here at the time of writing). Followed by banana, balcony tomatoes, carrot, sunflower seed bread at lunchtime - another 2 or 3, I reckon . - I owe you an email, btw! Progress on the thing I emailed you about aaaaaages ago Will write this weekend. I do feel for you doing all that housework - do hope you can rest too. Tandem bf great thing for weight loss IME. I have shifted both the ds2 and the ds1 weight

SuperBunny · 29/08/2008 16:21

Morning

Blueberries & raspberries with oats & rye flakes & almonds

DS wet the bed last night. He did it the night before too but he's never done it before. I am not sure if this is just a one-off (well, 2 off) or if it is something more. He's still quite little I suppose but he's been potty trained day and night for about 6 months.

pinkspottywellies · 29/08/2008 16:23

GRRRRRRRR I knew I shouldn't have clicked back on that nighttime snack thread. I hate that people get straight onto ranting about how he shouldn't be co-sleeping and shouldn't still be bf and should be sleeping through the night. She didn't ask for advice on the parenting method she is following just whether other people would have got food. Why can't they think 'well it's a theory and it's not for me but it's her choice' and then asnwer the question??!!

pinkspottywellies · 29/08/2008 16:34

Banana, apple, raisins, apple juice, tomato soup (from a tin - does it count? Has it ever seen a real tomato?) and I had my first tomato from my cherry tomato plant in a hanging basket that I planted from seed all by myself

I'm going out tonight to celebrate. My friend has got a new job. This isn't an unusual occurence tbh but it's quite a good job this time and there is other stuff, blah blah blah,...
