For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

When do you go back Bero? (sorry if you have already said and I have missed it)

fullmoonfiend · 19/08/2008 10:11

Bero, I have done every combination of stuff in the past 10 years - worked full time with ds in nursery , worked part time, SAHM, and now working 4 days a week school hours. The boys get so much 'me' time, they are fed up of me
Do what feels right for you and if you are hapy, the rest slots into place, I promise...

I lkike the head of alfafa garcia.

Here are some other thoughts for other days

Celery seems to be the hardest word

Darlin', you look fruitiful tonight

Corn Free

FrannyandZooey · 19/08/2008 10:13

Avi (or TF) you know when you do EC - when do you start, and what do you do when they're asleep? I think I am too lazy to do it, but I have always thought what a fab idea

Tatties FWIW ds1 kind of did it himself around 3 y o. He got it pretty fast because he was ready - he would have been hard work if I'd have tried earlier IMO

fullmoonfiend · 19/08/2008 10:16

oh yes tatties, I should say that both my boys told me when they were ready ''I wear big boy pants now..''

MamaG · 19/08/2008 10:26

bero your boys will be fine. You will appreciate the time you have with them so much that it will be real quality time, something that you can all look forward to. 2.5 days is great, i think its the best of both worlds - you get quality time with the children, but you get to go be a grown up and talk about make up and shoes as well

TigerFeet · 19/08/2008 10:37

Franny I will get BabiesEverywhere to CAT you or email you if you like. iirc she started with her dd at around 10 weeks but she has had a couple of catches already with her ds who is about 10 days old now . She is still getting used to the hose effect that boys have when they wee

I think in the beginning the idea is to figure out when they usually wee and poo and have a potty underneath them at the right times. I think straight before a feed and straight afterwards worked well. Once they can sit up by themselves it's easier (obv). BE's dd would wriggle when she needed a wee and make a noise and you would then have a few seconds to get her over a potty. BE worked out a system of Makaton-ish signs and cues (making a ssspspspsp sort of noise) to encourage wees.

As for sleep - BE's dd still wears a nappy for night time and nap times although it is often dry when she wakes and she does a wee straight away once she wakes up. I think when she was little you would have to get to her quite quickly after a sleep if you wanted to catch a wee but now she is two there is a bit more time.

I like the potato title. King Edward spuds rock. They make mighty fine roasties. The last 5lb bag I bought cost me £2 though. . £2 for a bag of spuds

Boco could you text Mad Mariam back asking her to check her number?

Bero my heart goes out to you. Once you've found your stride it'll work out fine, I'm sure

Aitch is having a baby in 6 weeks and hardly anyone on MN knew??? Whose baby was the stealth baby - was it SoupDragon? I quite like the idea of keeping it quiet until the birth announcement but I would be constitutionally incapable of doing so I think.

berolina · 19/08/2008 10:59

thank you everyone. I go back next week. I've done this before - with ds1 I was back FT at 5 months and working from home after about 10 weeks, I think (mat leave was almost non-existent then, there has been a major change in the law since, and I was sole breadwinner) - but spent my time running several times a day between home, where dh was with him, and work (lecturing), plus doing piles of stuff at home in the evenings, so was rarely out for full days as I will be this time. I think also becauee last time I just got on with it because I had to, and this time I have got so used to being around for the boys, that it will be harder on me somehow. What feels right is not doing this job but if my retraining etc. etc. goes well I will hopefully be able to quit in 1-2 years.

Good morning

I am home for two days then off to Solfest same as FMV. At the moment that seems exhausting but it was a long drive yesterday. We broke it up in Bristol, went to SS Gt Britain and Wagamamas but still took 12 hours to get home.

IT RAINED. A lot.

We had a fab time though. The cottage had two hidden ponds and was quite dirty so we have to complain about that but the farm was amazing! It was so relaxing camping with all the comforts, wood burning stove, enamel pots, higgeldy piggeldy chairs and comfy beds and chickens and so on.

Now the washing.

Boco · 19/08/2008 11:38

Hello Guad

Glad you had a good time. It's strange how exhausting long journeys are when you're only sitting still - the trip to Liverpool took us six hours without a break and we arrived just as the ceremony was starting so had to get changed in the multistory carpark. I was aware of the cameras, but by then was too frantic to care about wrestling myself into my dress in full view.

I'm not going to dump the girls on you tomorrow when you've got so little time to recover and re-pack. Maybe when you're back though if that's ok?

TigerFeet · 19/08/2008 11:44

That sounds wonderful Lupe but is dh's idea of hell I reckon, along with festivals. He likes clean holiday lets with all mod cons included. I am more adventurous I think.

I would love to buy one of those mahoosive landrovers and just travel wherever the fancy took me. I was in Morocco about 10 years ago and met a German couple who were doing just that

Bero, being happy with your job makes such a difference doesn't it? With dd I knew I was going back to a nightmare, i was working FT in a job I hated with a 45 mile return journey, dodgy colleagues and a boss who was largely absent. If I were to have another I would be coming back to this lovely PT job, closer to home, nice people to sit with all day. I am not completely enamoured of what I do but it fits in well with the rest of my life.

Guadalupe · 19/08/2008 11:46

oh, really, it's fine. I was going to say that I would leave the castle for this week and they can play while I get on. It would keep Alice out from under my feet anyway, she loves having them to play.

Guadalupe · 19/08/2008 11:48

TF - I was expecting the cottage to be clean, they are usually and I'm not that fussy but the pots were rusty, the cupboards were grimy, there were mouse droppings, previous childrens sweet wrappers under the bed and wee stains on the loo. Gross.

Guadalupe · 19/08/2008 11:50

and the owner was arsey when I phoned and told her the wasin machine didn't work properly and that I had sent her painter away. Not really on to have maintenance work done when you're on holiday, especially when the paint gets on ds2s coat.

TigerFeet · 19/08/2008 11:57

at them decorating while you were there. I bet they would have just painted over the grot too.

Ick at wee stains on the toilet

Guadalupe · 19/08/2008 11:58

I know. This young lad said he needed to paint the front door so I said, er ok, but he didn't tell us he was painting the inside and ds2 walked into it. He also wanted to paint the garden furniture, said it was quick drying.

TooTicky · 19/08/2008 13:14

I'm glad it was mostly good MrsC. Other people's dirt is icky though, and the painting thing quite ridiculous!

OsmosisBanana · 19/08/2008 14:19

Hi,

I am unbelievably tired. Am not 19 as I mistakenly thought on Sunday. I had to go home for a nap having been at work one hour. In fact, had to get taxi home as was not safe to drive.

Much better now even though all I dreamt about whilst alseep was being in bed, so wasn't entirely sure I did sleep.

Now have to clean house like a mad thing and get ready for Shambala as DH leaves on Thurs night to ensure decent spot. Hectic man.

Need to buy acres of pink netting and a pink bobbbed wig for my costume also.... What can I dress DD in for fancy dress parade? I have nuffink.

You still coming to Briz in the am TooT?

I would be most displeased with cottage situation MrsC. Sounds suspiciously like something out of Withnaill and I.

TooTicky · 19/08/2008 14:23

Yep, see you then
Anything costume-wise I can help with? Not that we have lots of tiny costumes but if you need clothes of a certain colour we may just have something...

MamaG · 19/08/2008 14:23

how old is DD os-ba? Imight have something I could lend you.

OsmosisBanana · 19/08/2008 14:26

Have you any wings of any description? I could make her into an insect of some sort.

Tricky with one so young, she will only want to take everything off.

Maybe I shall daub her with mud and make her a cave baby. Tiger skin furry material or summat round the nappy....

MamaG · 19/08/2008 14:26

Oh she's a baby? I wouldn't have anything so samll.

A cave baby sounds fabulous though, go with the loin cloth/mud thing

OsmosisBanana · 19/08/2008 14:28

DD is 21 months but she's a biggun.

TooTicky · 19/08/2008 14:29

We only have fairy wings.

OsmosisBanana · 19/08/2008 14:30

Where in Scotland did you go? DH has dreams of Ben Nevis. I tend to nod enthusiastically about such things and then wait for him to forget about it.

Snowdon whilst 4 months pregnant put me off such things a bit/.

OsmosisBanana · 19/08/2008 14:33

cAVE FAIRY? Bloody caps buggering lock.
