For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Planty. Salty. Right. Well, I like seaweed so I may well buy some capers and give them a try. I will report back.

oh god bedtime meltdowns
worst culprit = me
why is it so easy to fly off the handle last thing before bed? and it really crucifies you with guilt once they are in bed

Oh, there is a big Caper divide

I like capers, olives (preferably Kalamata or black) and anchovies (except I don't eat them now)

Avi, we'll save you some

Franny, not sure what to suggest. I like bedtimes. They have been much better since I have stopped my end of the day clock-watching and 'It's 7:30, you MUST be in bed and asleep" thing.

TigerFeet · 18/08/2008 19:34

You'll be fine avi. Just remember that they're planty and not fishy and you've passed.

[takes up more of avi's precious revision time with nonsense]

SuperBunny · 18/08/2008 19:35

Yes, homemade tartare sauce is yum. With chips.

TigerFeet · 18/08/2008 19:36

dd is stretching out bedtime atm

she should be in bed by now

but is tormenting dh instead

SuperBunny · 18/08/2008 19:36

My ex BF used to take a bowl of homemade tartare sauce on the back of his motorbike when we went to the pub for fish and chips

OsmosisBanana · 18/08/2008 20:05

i don't like capers. they are just about acceptable in salsa verde. Only just....

Olives are touch and go. They remind me of hangovers though as once ate large bag of garlic stuffed ones with a very bad tequila head.

Tequila is the work of the devil.

I can't even stand near someone drinking it now.

SuperBunny · 18/08/2008 20:17

I'm with you on Tequila. Awful stuff.

FrayedKnot · 18/08/2008 20:33

Evening all

Franny top marks for even starting to cook a meal at 1 month post partum with 2 DC

We had bedtime meltdown too

I thought DS was going to burst a blood vessel he was shouting so loudly in the bath. He also hit me and I am getting fed up with it...we keep talking about it afterwards - however cross he feels he must not do it, but he doesn;t seem able to control himslef - ideas, anyone?

It probably was my fault we got to that point though..I was tired and not being very attentive.

I like capers in pasta sauce (tomato) - they have to be the ones preserved in vinegar, and very well rinsed before they go in.

FrannyandZooey · 18/08/2008 20:40

FK we did not find any particular strategy worked for dealing with hitting
just getting older and learning to control himself, really
you could suggest saying a 'rude' word instead? ds made up rude words that sounded marvellously malevolent
we have growling now which i don't like much more than hitting, tbh

oh after ds1's meltdown and my losing it, ds2 was yelling while dp changed his nappy
ds1 appeared at top of stairs saying "mummy please try giving him milkies as I am feeling very sad for him" [sob] [swoon]

We had capers tonight, in puttanesca. I just go along with them, but I don't really feel totally at ease with them.

We got back this evening - the wedding was lovely and happy and the bride was beautiful with her 8 month bump. We stayed with brides parents who I love, the party was at their house so nice and easy with the girls. Then miraculously saw Klimt on Sunday despite there being no tickets. People were trying and being turned away, but dp went up to the lady and did pleading eyes and she let us all in straight away! Was interesting but missed out on a lot as girls were hungry and not very patient.

Stayed with my dad and stepmother last night. Came back down to earth with that one, my stepmother makes me feel absolutely useless and lazy and stupid and I always come away feeling crap. Which is why we've been there twice in three years. Am still trying to work out how to avoid this post visit slump, it was nice to see my dad though.

pinkspottywellies · 18/08/2008 21:49

Hey Boe-Coe. Glad you had a mostly nice weekend

Are we doing new titles? I'm rubbish at titles but thought I'd better give the rest of you a kick up the bum

MamaG · 18/08/2008 21:52

Hello fruitbats

I assume you've all missed me madly and have spent the last 2 weeks thinking "where's MamaG?"

How is DS2 coming along Franny?

SuperBunny · 18/08/2008 21:55

Y, Y, Mamag, we did. Where were you?

Does Puttanesca have tuna in it?

MamaG · 18/08/2008 21:56

I was in sunny (ha) Scotland for 2 weeks

SuperBunny · 18/08/2008 22:04

Ooo, lovely. I hope.

I'm going to work later and I am going to eat a Cornetto when I get there. And it's ok because it will be a portion of nuts which I know doesn't count but nuts are good for you anyway. Unless some selfish person has scoffed them all. In which case, I'll feel a bit peeved and will sulk all night.
