here it is - a new thread for those of us just beginning a diet.
let's share tips and moral support.
i used to be 8st 10lb (i'm only 5ft4in and was always slim) but piled on the pounds during pregnancy, maxing out at 11st5lb. With mega, mega effort i got down to 9st 2lb a while ago-it took months cos i was only losing about 1lb a week - and i could just never get below that. That means many of my clothes are too tight. some are just a bit uncomfy, other are totally unwearable.
and i've gone back up to 9st5lb again, so it's time for a new campaign.
What's your goal, and what are your weaknesses?
I stared at a huge chocolate donut in our staff canteen for what felt like ages when i went to get a cup of tea this morning. i swear it almost physically hurt to walk away from that donut

I am doing ok- weight loss still stands at just under a kilo, but I am hoping that by tomorrow a little more may have shifted. If my hunger at the moment is anything to go by!

Exercise- it shouldn't affect fertility.

silvermum · 18/08/2008 20:03

i fell off the wagon a bit in the last 24 hours....did a long run again yesterday which absolutey exhausted me and by supper time was just too hungry not to have a hearty meal.then today had some old university friends round for a reunion and we all had huge bowls of pasta and pesto followed by a lot more chocolate cake than i intended to eat. so...i won't be getting on the scales for a few days as the minute i eat anything like that i bounce right back up again..... but hopefully i can start back where i left off tomorrow...

How are you all doing?

I have now reached my target of 1 kgs off sustained over a few days and doing my pelvic tilt exercises- 40 a day- and can see a difference in the tone of my belly!
Another 1kg of blubber to go!

silvermum · 22/08/2008 18:19

hello all
for the first time in 18 months i have dropped below 9st! just by a whisker - 8st 13.4lb first thing this morning and almost certainly would have bounced back over 9st if i'd weighed myself after breakfast! however, it was my holy grail to see that '8' in any shape or form, so am feeling really pleased. ideally i want to get down to 8st 9/10lb which is my pre baby weight and the weight at which i'll be able to get into all my old clothes - so 4 or 5lbs to go. it might not sound much to those who hae to lose more but for me it's daunting - it's felt such a huge effort to get where i am and every little ounce seems to take an age to shift. BUT i'm going to stick with it! well done girlnextdoor! am i right that 1kg is about 2.2lbs? is your target to lose total of 4lbs?

OP posts:
girlnextdoor · 22/08/2008 18:59

yesterday I had my lowest ever weigh-in (of recent weeks anyway!) and had dropped another 300gms- almost another pound! Yipeeee!

I have now shed 1.3kg -ish which is a lot of blubber round the middle when you are tiny like me.

I am now sticking to no nibbling and hope to shed another kilo at least.

well done silvermum! keep it up. I need to be around 7st 7lbs- sorry, I know that sounds crazy but I am TINY boned and only 5'3". I was around 7s 12lbs and getting tubby round midriff.

so, a kilo is 2.2 lbs yes. I need to lose about 5lbs- now that I have lost what I have I think I need to lose another 2-3 lbs, as my size 10 trousers were very hard to fasten-and I refuse to buy size 12s!

silvermum · 23/08/2008 10:23

well done you! yes, it sounds tiny, but it's all about what's normal for you, not other people.
i had two bits of buttered toast this morning, which was my first real treat for a long time. i did agonise over it a bit (!) but decided i was being ridiculous and that everyone should have a few nice things occasionally. i'll be making up the calories by skipping wine this evening and having a no carb lunch.
my weight usually bounces up over the weekend and then drops back down again as i work at it during the week.

Glad to see there are lots of people like me ont his thread. 5 3 ish. Like OP I feel great at 8.10, which i was for about 12 yrs before having children. I am size twelve and I just want to be size ten. That's it really, that's my goal! I walk and jog and eat fairly healthily, I just need to cut out biscuits and cut down my portion sizes.

I walk up yesterday IN THE MENTAL ZONE to start a diet. Two days in, and it's been easy. Went for 15 minute jog ystrdy and this morning, ate porridge instead of bread with choc spread. So, so far, so easy, but it's all in the mind.

I am going on holiday in 5 wks, and I would like to get down from 9,5lbs to 8.10 in five weeks. Too much too quick? hmmm.

PookiePodgeandTubs · 24/08/2008 11:43

PS, can I join in? Sorry! I should have said that first!

Silver, even when I was 24 and doing circuit training and kcikboxing, I remember being really shcoked that my fat % was about 27%. I thought, well, I can NOT do any more. So now I stick my head in the sand over fat %.

Keep this thread here btw! Feel too vain amongst people with 5 stone to lose. ONly people who need to lose 8-10 lbs understand that it's not vanity. You need to get back the mody that fits your head.

girlnextdoor · 24/08/2008 19:37

welcome pookie! You should be able to manage 9lbs or so in 5 weeks- easy peasy! (she says)

I think it is well known that if you have a little to lose it can be harder than a lot- I don't over eat anyway, but over 6 years, I have put on about half a stone or more all round my hips and waist- middle aged spread! I can still get into a size 10- but only JUST!

My fat score is 24-25% and I want to try to get it down to 20%.

I also want to build up my muscle mass from 36-37% to 40%!

Keep us updated!

PookiePodgeandTubs · 24/08/2008 20:27

Thanks girlnextdoor! My second day went really well. Not looking for a medal yet though.

It's true what you say about it being harder. I would never lose as much weight as a diet would tell me I should lose. Even if I followed it to the letter. But I know that now.

Do you have one of the gadgets that you stand on? It can tell how much of you is flab and how much is muscle?!! I'd be stepping on and off it several times a day I think.

I can get in to some size tens, but only in shops like Monsoon and French Connection! So I can't kid myself really. When I can get in to a 10 in top shop I'll believe it

girlnextdoor · 25/08/2008 20:16

Yes, I have one of those gadgets- it was a cheapo one- about £20- and I don't think it's very good.

It says different things all the time- I know that your water content is crucial to how it reads you - but is ridiculous! I can be 500 gms lighter/heavier after 10 minutes!

In 1 day I have put on 500gms according to scales- from xxkls.2gms to xxkls.7gms!

I know this is possible, but it is dis-heartening- when I drop a whole kilo or more and keep it off for a week I'll believe it!

I tired 2 pairs of trousers on in MOnsoon- one pair of tens would not fasten, another was fine!

silvermum · 26/08/2008 10:38

hello again everyone, welcome Pookie!
i would be really interested to see if you manage to lose 9lb in that time frame, as we both started out the same weight and with the same goal. i've now been on this diet for a month and i've only lost three/four lbs, but i definitely look thinner - a pair of trousers i bought a couple of months ago that i worried was going to be too tight is now perfect - if anythnig, a little loose.
i do not think i could sensibly or physically do much more - i'm being very strict with carbs and treats and exercising hard. clearly it is a very slow burn in my case but i'm heading in the right direction. i'm hovering around 9st now (i see that holy grail of 8st-something if i weigh myself when dehydrated - not obsessing, honest!) which is about four pounds less than when i started.
by the end of this week i'd like to see 8st 12-something or less, but it's tough.
good luck this week everyone!

PookiePodgeandTubs · 26/08/2008 18:17

Hi again. Day four, so I'm feeling really keen. I went for another 15 minute jog. (Have to build up slowly).

Silvermum, I weigh myself first thing in the morning, with no clothes on, after a wee! Of course

When I go away, I'm going to be seeing some people I haven't seen in a while, so if that doesn't motivate me, nothing will.

I stepped on the scales and I weigh the same, but I feel like my tummy is slightly less ginormous. SO I am happy.

PookiePodgeandTubs · 26/08/2008 18:19

PS girlnextdoor, think I might browse through the ARgos catalogue looking at exercise and fat gadgets! That'll keep my enthusiasm going.

girlnextdoor · 26/08/2008 20:21

Good luck this week!

My extra 500gms had disappeared today, but it has not been a good day- no exercise at all and too many Brazil nuts..

oh dear- a nibbly day. I will be better when my DD goes back to uni as the house is full of things I would never normally eat- cakes and puddings.

However, let's see what tomorrow brings.

silvermum · 26/08/2008 21:36

i know we are all weighing each other too often but it's soooo tempting isn't it? the trouble is when your weight mysteriously bounces back up despite your best efforts it can be quite demotivating...the longest i seem able to leave it is two days before going on the scales.
can you all give me some ideas of your healthy meals/snacks?
i'm very happy with my breakfast at the moment - bowl of porrige cooked in apple juice and milk, with some fruit mixed in. not sure how many calories it is - probably about 300, maybe more?- but they are healthy calories!
i wouldn't say it's true that porrige fils you up for ages though - i'm hungry again by midday. my snack during the day is a very small handful of nuts and a couple of dried apricots.
how about you all-what do you eat during the day?
btw where is fivegomadindorset i wonder? she seems to have disappeared...

girlnextdoor · 26/08/2008 22:30

Hi

I am not the best person to ask,a s I have many food intolerances...

I don't eat dairy or gluten and can't have much soya either

breakfast is the same every day-boiled egg and 1 piece gluten free toast...but now and then I will have porridge with small amount of soya.
I am trying NOT to snack and that is all til lunchtime- then it is either home made soup- usually lentil and carrot, cold meat/tuna/prawns and salad, or humuus and celery/carrot sticks.

Dinner is often fish- salmon 3x a week- or chicken, hardly ever eat red meat. Usual veg etc.

If I am starving I eat rice cakes with humuus or humuus with veggie sticks or small apple.

You could try rice cakes and cottage cheese...nuts are very high in calories, btw as is dried fruit, or fruit, or half a pot of yoghurt maybe?

SimpleAsABC · 27/08/2008 11:19

I've been going to WW for 7 weeks now, started at 11s 5lbs, down to 10s 10, loss of 9 lbs..

Finding it reaaaaaaaaaaally difficult to get motivated now.

Friends bday yesterday and had 2 (yes I know 2..) pieces of birthday cake. Woke up at 2am this morning with a blinding headache, sickness, flashy eyes the lot.

Could this have been connected to my sugar gorge?!

silvermum · 27/08/2008 12:03

wow Simple, that's a great effort. that doesn't sound like a headache, more like a migraine, which i get. apparently the link with sugar is a bit of a fallacy - i think it's unlikely to be what caused your sore head. but i'm not a doctor. my migraines were actually often triggered by the opposite - not enough to eat!
try not to give up or slack off now - it's okay to have a less good day - just pick up where you left off. you can make up for the two slices of cake. i had a similar day last week when i had two,if not three, big slices of cake. likewise it was a special occasion. by the end of the week i'd still lost a bit of weight.

9lbs in 7 wks is great! well done.

3 dried apricots stops me from eating my own hand.

Pookie.

silvermum · 01/09/2008 21:17

ladies, where are you all? how are you doing?
i have spent a joyous few hours today pulling out all the clothes that were too tight from my wardrobe, trying them on again, and finding they FIT! am down to 8st 12.6lb if weighed first thing in the morning! so only 2 or 3lbs to go. am very pleased but aware that i need to keep it up...danger is to think i'm home and dry and return to bad habits...
