On a scale of one to oh crap - how worried should I be?

I can't find my coil strings. I have never lost them before. DH can't find them either.

I have a gynae appointment on Tuesday so I can tell them then assuming they haven't shown up.

Do they often hide for a bit?

I doin't know how they get missing ones out Flame

They let DD bring it out with her in my case

Sidge · 20/07/2008 14:33

The strings are probably tucked up in your cervix, or up the side.

Most women notice if their coil comes out!

Flamesparrow · 20/07/2008 16:49

I'm sure it hasn't come out. It is more if it has travelled up that I am concerned. I hope I would have noticed it come out!!!

Children bringing them out with them is not helping!

Flamesparrow · 20/07/2008 19:33

my dates allowed for falling on DH's birthday - he is still trying to decide if he should feel privileged or snubbed.

Flame

When i went to get my copper coil removed I was paranoid the strings were lost and asked how they recover them.

Dr said they have tiny tool with hook on end to fish around inside the cervix for the tools.

Thats assuming the strings arent in that secret chamber.

I said to doc, "that sounds dreadful" and she said, its no worse than having the coil removed.

Good luck!

GYo · 20/07/2008 19:39

thats fish around in cervix for strings not tools

You'd be in trouble if there were lost tools up there....

whoops · 20/07/2008 19:45

My coil strings disappeared I had to have a scan to check it was still in place, which it was thankfully!
I have some ebay tests you can have if you need them

Flamesparrow · 20/07/2008 20:15

lol @ lost tools! Maybe they hide in the secret pocket too?

Whoops - I am ignoring that comment. Unless it is awol and then I will be accepting

pinkspottywellies · 21/07/2008 17:18

Oh my god! I didn't know coils had strings

BlueDragonfly · 21/07/2008 17:19

stress can make you nauseous

is it 2mo your appt?

and what do you want, really really?

Flamesparrow · 21/07/2008 17:24

not a clue.

baby would be bad timing but would make our decision for us. But then it would be the whole thing of either them removing coil mid pregnancy, or being born with coil embedded or summat.

I'm sure i'm fine

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 21/07/2008 17:24

appt at 10 tomorrow

OP posts:
NormaStanleyFletcher · 21/07/2008 22:29

jeez - coil is not born embedded in baby - they bring it out held tight in their little fist ( really - my consultant - a young man - had seen three like this )

mine was never found, they presume it came out in early labour after my waters broke and I never noticed

no-one ever considered removing the coil, and it was a mirena which was also pumping hormones out

Flamesparrow · 22/07/2008 07:09

Have a friend who was trying to scare me out of coil in the beginning - showed me a few too many pictures of embedded babies

Will know more in a few hours - they are probably just tucked up weird or summat

OP posts:
NormaStanleyFletcher · 22/07/2008 09:13

Let us know how how you get on

BlaDeBla · 22/07/2008 09:46

I'm going to have my 3rd coil fitted soon! The 2nd came out with a pregnancy. The strings were all in place until the consultant was planning to take it out.

Hope it all goes well for you! If your coil is still there and you are pg, they will probably suggest taking the coil out if you are planning to keep pg.

Flamesparrow · 22/07/2008 11:13

Strings very much awol.

As it was a GU guy I was seeing (other issues), he says I have to call GP, tell them he can't find the strings and that I need a scan.

GP told me I have to ring family planning... they are shut until 4.30!!!

OP posts:
NormaStanleyFletcher · 22/07/2008 11:39

awwww flame. Sorry they didn't find them (my crossed fingers didn't work)

Can't see why the GP couldn't refer you for a scan - mine did, and coil was fitted by FP. Mind you, mine was a dating scan as well as a "where is the pesky coil" scan (I was 19 weeks btw), but still can't see why the GP can't refer.
