For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

Balloon thing?

Eye hosp still have to get ds2's notes from RUH then show them to the doc we thought we were going to see but who is away for 2 weeks and then they will probably put him on the list for surgery.
Waiting time approx 3 months, as doc told me proudly
They were all nice people really but I hate the idea of the op. But if he doesn't have it his vision will not improve at all and may get worse.
If he does have it then his vision should improve significantly cataract-wise, although the corneal scar will still be there. But they can't be sure. And there is risk of causing more damage and a whole list of other things that didn't lodge in my head. Glaucoma was one. I don't know what that is.

UR, I loved hearing about ds. It's wonderful when they surprise you like that

Lully, glad ds is feeling better.

Oh, hello everybody and sorry am too useless to remember what everybody said.

TooTicky · 23/07/2008 18:28

Ask away UR

Hope you feel better soon FK

berolina · 23/07/2008 18:40

morning and evening all.

TooT oh dear, surgery is always a horrible prospect, isn't it? I am sorry the news wasn't great. (Have emailed you btw )

Glad ds is feeling better, Lully, and get-well wishes to other ill children. Thinking of Franny too, of course.

We visited ds1's new kindergarten this morning. They had a fantastic music bloke there - he comes every week - he was really very good indeed. This afternoon we made raspberry fairy cakes with raspberry icing for dh's birthday tomorrow. Lots of the cakes collapsed when I took them out as the new non-stick cake tin was not so non-stick, but we managed to save the tops and arranged and iced them. dh came back from conference having verbally secured a publishing deal for his thesis when it's finished. I do enjoy his successes - he's not got the best self-belief in this area and it was me really who encouraged him to go the academic route. I can feel proud and vindicated

Better go and read to ds1, who is distraught because dh and I are daring to do other things.

Redcurrants, cucumber, carrot, sunflower seeds, peach, blueberries, banana, courgette.

UnderRated · 23/07/2008 18:45

What a lovely afternoon, Bero. Well done to your DH

I don't know what glaucoma is either. Sorry there isn't a simple, risk-free solution.

I started a thread, Toot, but obviously no-one answered. I look at lots of websites (Parsley soup etc) but I need to know what real people eat, I think.

Bbbee · 23/07/2008 18:58

dd - mummy you are so sexy
me - what does that mean?
dd - it means we get all naked and roll around on each other
me - how do you know that?
dd - some stuff from school. Can I have an ice-cream
me - erm, er, yeah okay....

LullyOfShallot · 23/07/2008 19:04

uh oh

pinkspottywellies · 23/07/2008 19:12

Oh dear BBB!!! How old is she?

UR what a lovely boy

Glad the little people are feeling better.

Boe-coe my cousins have asthma and there are some dust mite reducing strategies that my auntie finds really helpful. One of them is hanging duvet over end of bed/chair during the day so that it airs and isn't on the bed being all cosy that dustmites like. Also washing all bedding etc at 60(can't find degrees symbol!) You might already know these things but if not I can find out properly for you because apparently it makes a real difference to thier wheeziness.

Glad to hear Franny got her parcel and that ds2's perking up. I will try and send something nice to make them smile

School has a lot to answer for, Bee!

FrayedKnot · 23/07/2008 19:41

Boco do you have asthma as well, did you say? Agree about looking for trigger things. My Mum has a very bad reaction to animal fur, particularly cats.

Boco · 23/07/2008 19:42

Will try that thanks Pink - I think you're supposed to put all the soft toys in the freezer too - and my asthma consultant at hospital told me I had to kill my cat! Actually cat is bad for asthma, but won't be doing any killing. Our house is very old and cottagey and prone to dust - so we're all doomed really, I need to live in some kind of stainless steel loft apartment with minimalist furniture.

Bee that reminds me of dd1 sticking up her middle finger at me a couple of weeks ago and saying 'this is your swear finger mummy, if you do this, it's rude, so just watch out ok?'

FrayedKnot · 23/07/2008 19:42

lol BBBee

Does that mean she thinks you get naked and roll aorund with otehr people a lot

Bbbee · 23/07/2008 19:45

shie is 6 - it is the innocent way it was explained that was almost charming. I did a bit more good cop bad cop questioning and it turned out to be the vicar#s daughter who has an 11 yr old sister.

oh how I laughed.

boco -I like dd trying to protect you - she thinks you are a numpty and will accidently go round giving a swear out absent mindedly.

UnderRated · 23/07/2008 19:58

UnderRated · 23/07/2008 20:02

Yes, what balloon thing?

Boco · 23/07/2008 20:05

What ballooon thing Bee???

I like the way Bee remembers odd snippets but not quite and then says 'i liked it when you said something a while back, you know that thing you once said? It was good'. And then rushes out. Good positive reinforcement.

Bbbee · 23/07/2008 20:08

i know - it may be crap but it is positive crap.

oh toot i am trying to be cryptic but it about as good as boco's pregnancy thread!

balloons, 6am and 6pm, park, your neck of the woods you going?

UnderRated · 23/07/2008 20:12

Boco's pregnancy thread?

pinkspottywellies · 23/07/2008 20:13

Boco did namechanging but everyone guessed it was her from her posting style! She didn't even cock up and post on her regular thread with her changed name (cause what idiot would do that?)
