Is there a bad tummy bug doing the rounds?

I’ve been so unwell with diarrhoea and vomiting. Thought it would be 24 hours and done but I’m over a week in and the diarrhoea is still a-flowing and m aching like mad. Can’t do anything. Has anyone else had a bad stomach bug in the last month or so? I’m aware of the salmonella outbreak so wondered about that but can’t think of anything I could have eaten that would cause it.

Same here. FML.

If you have had diarrhoea over a week, you need to phone the Dr's.

Occasionally our bodies keep in the cycle and need help to stop and redirect.

Strawberrydelight78 · 21/08/2026 08:57

Not that I know of. I would be seeing a doctor. My son was like this when he was 2. I had to take a poo sample into the doctor’s. He had food poisoning (carpals bacta). Me my older child or their dad hadn’t had it. I was a stay at home mum so he eat the same as me pretty much. There is a salmonella outbreak right now.

Salmonella is going around at the moment also norovirius which can last over a week.

Wjdbxb · 21/08/2026 09:28

It felt like norovirus when it started but it doesn’t look like that’s going around according to the stats available.

Don’t have sickness or diarrhoea but last 2 days have the most awful stomach ache and gnawing with nausea and increased frequency! Came on all of a sudden with a headache

It is, people go on holiday and start it off this time of year every year.

It always going round a bit though

Hollyhobbi · 21/08/2026 11:54

Norovirus in the hospital my daughter works in in Dublin.

Ansells · 21/08/2026 11:55

Whereabouts are you?

sanityisamyth · 21/08/2026 11:56

Depends where you live! If I live 100 miles away from you, I can’t see that they’d be corrected. But no, no D&V here.

MildlyMoist · 21/08/2026 12:00

DH had e.coli from some radishes a couple of years ago, with D&V for 13 days. Narrowly avoided hospital but it just disappeared on day 14. The pathogen was identified from a stool sample. There are other bugs like campylobacter which cause similarly long-lasting symptoms.

I think food poisoning of some sort more likely than noro given it’s gone on this long - IME noro lasts up to 3 days and then disappears. You should contact your GP surgery - they will ask for a stool sample and you can then find out what you’ve got and how to treat it.

hellospring26 · 21/08/2026 12:05

I ended up lights and sirens to ED last week. E. coli. Don’t thin it’s doing the rounds though.

quirkychick · 21/08/2026 12:13

I had a stomach bug last week for 6 days. Diarrhoea, stomach cramps and temperature/chills - we think dp had something similar but not so bad a few days before. It was pretty miserable in the heat.

There are a number of things it can be. I’d contact your GP.

Btw, the stats only show a trend - they’re more a tip of the iceberg thing. E.g. For every noro case identified in hospital, there are around another nine unconfirmed cases in the hospital. There are an estimated 300 more community cases per hospital case. Covid is also doing the rounds now with D and V as a symptom. When the wastewater infrastructure was used, it gave a much more robust picture.

Same. I thought it was improving but I’ve had a return of the water diarrhoea this afternoon. Doctors tomorrow I think.

No. I’m actually allergic to eggs so can’t eat them at all.

There is always a bad tummy bug going around . If it doesn’t get better soon go to the gp. Some of these things need antibiotics to get better .

I think you're mixing up carpal tunnel and campylobacter.

MellonFellon · Yesterday 19:48

About a year a go I had a bug then the diarrhoea lasted for over a week, I spoke to a pharmacist and they gave me something to bung me up. They said some times your system just gets stuck and it needs a hand to bind and reset. 24 hrs later I was right as rain, although I didn't trust a fart for quite a while through fear!
