Tap water or bottled water

I need to try drinking more water but obviously bottled water everyday is expensive so does everyone drink tap water.

Drink tap water. Almost all bottled water comes in plastic bottles, so not great for the environment.

I drink "council juice" - tap water 💧 🚰 love it chilled in my freezer in a water bottle.

Have you looked at Brita jugs?

We keep a Brita filter jug, in the fridge and keep it refilled with tap water all day.
It nukes the taste of undesirable chemicals such as chlorine in the water supply.

I decant tap water into re-usable bottles and store in the fridge. It means it's always deliciously cold.

Why would anyone not drink tap water un the UK?

Where are you? In Scotland the tap water is better than any bottled.

I drink tap water all the time at home. I do buy bottled mineral water for when I go out. Tap water is fine if you drink it within an hour, but if I fill my bottle with tap water and then go out for a few hours, the tap water tastes horrible. Goes all limey and nasty. So I always take a bottle of chilled mineral water out with me.

Some people may have super-delicious-all-the-time tap water, (even when it's been in your bottle overnight!) But some people aren't that fortunate, and it does go a bit 'off' after an hour or two in the bottle. (Yes, even when it's been filtered.....)

All the bottles I ever buy get recycled. So the 'not great for the environment' argument doesn't stand up.

You know though don't you @Lara96 that NO-ONE is going to admit to always drinking bottled mineral water only on Mumsnet. Indeed, some will claim to ALWAYS drink tap water, and never touch bottled mineral water!

It is very variable taste wise around the country- some of it is downright unpleasant.
If your water is good in your area, perhaps you are not aware of this?

Thought tap was better because of microplastics and also less likely to give food poisoning? Read an article on flitered water, because a lot of people have them fitted now, but the conclusion was tap is likely to be safer. Versus bottled, it said some brands have higher or lower chemicals. So overall, UK tap water without a filter is the best, it said. Bottled might be easy in some ways but is worse for the environment, but that's a separate issue.

Both. but our Tap water at home tastes very Metallic.
We have a filter machine at work so I drink that, but I love Evian, it's just one where I can taste the difference. B
I always ensure I recycle correctly too as I am well aware of the effect on the environment.

I’m in the south east and the tap water here is absolutely vile. I only drink bottled water that I buy in bulk from Costco. I might try buying a filter like someone mentioned above

Unfortunately recycling is really not the solution to our masses of plastic. We need to stop using so much of it.

We're in Wales. Visitors love our water. They say it tastes lovely. It's also colder apparently.

We do, but better not to need it in the first place when all you need to do is turn the tap on. Recycling comes at a price. Tap water is more environmentally friendly and much cheaper than bottled water. If taste is the issue just buy a filter jug.

I was drinking tap water for a couple of years in my current property, then did a lead test...😵😵‍💫 Completely unsafe to drink or brush teeth in!
If you live in a traditional Victorian area, I suggest getting tap water tested first - available for free via your Water Company.

Should also mention that my Water Company offered to regularly deliver bottled drinking water or heavily reduce the water bill. I chose the latter and buy my own drinking water.

I would have preferred the lead pipes switched out permanently (outside my property) alas Water companies really are not that interested in improving their infrastructure - no surprises there!

I drink tap water. Im well aware of the regulations governing the treatment and supply of tap water v. bottled water, as I worked in the water industry for 10 years.

Why would you buy water when it comes out of the taps for free unless you are the tiny minority of places with ancient piping that has not been replaced?

Seems like a waste of money to me and an environmental disaster. All that plastic for no good reason. It has to go somewhere.

The tap water where I live (London) tastes foul - but it’s nice when filtered & fridge cold (I use glass bottles and charcoal filters, which does make a big difference to the taste IMO). I get through 2-3 litres a day so buying bottled water gets expensive plus you have to store and then dispose of the bottles. Filtered is much more convenient.
