Normal for me, sadly. I often have heavy periods so par for the course.

Any unusual pain??

winnie01 · 24/06/2008 22:45

no unusual pain. do you have clots then?

OP posts:
maidamess · 24/06/2008 22:49

As I get older I do...not nice.

winnie01 · 24/06/2008 22:50

maidamess- how old r u?

OP posts:
maidamess · 24/06/2008 22:50

37 with very heavy periods. Yuck.

avenanap · 24/06/2008 22:51

I have these. Lots of them. Clots are just blood that's clumped together on its way out. Periods change though. You should see your GP if you are concerned. Mine are heavy. They always have been though. Nightmare!

winnie01 · 24/06/2008 22:52

do u use tampons?

OP posts:
PeaGreene · 24/06/2008 22:53

Not so many clots lately, tbh, but periods are less heavy than they used to be. Age strikes in varied ways I gather... I'm 39 now.

winnie01 · 24/06/2008 22:54

should i be worried. i want another baby

OP posts:
avenanap · 24/06/2008 22:56

No. I managed to get pregnant with heavy periods. It just means the lining is getting thicker. Will keep the baby warm and snug.

maidamess · 24/06/2008 22:57

Yep I use tampons, those ones that look the same width as a roll of kitchen roll!

I know many MNers swear by mooncups for easing heavy periods, but they just aren't my cuppa tea.

PeaGreene · 24/06/2008 22:57

I'm sure I had very clotty periods before I conceived DS. HTH. If it's really out of the ordinary for you though, a chat to a GP might be best. No other symptoms though?

winnie01 · 24/06/2008 22:57

did you have periods with clots when u got pregnant?

OP posts:
avenanap · 24/06/2008 22:59

Yes. Clots are clumps of blood. You don't have them in your uterus, they form on the way out.

winnie01 · 24/06/2008 23:00

so i do't need to panic? i was thinking fybroids or endometriosis?

OP posts:
avenanap · 24/06/2008 23:04

Endometiosis is very, very painful. Alot of women have fybroids. I have them, my sister has them. She's had them for years and a funny shaped uterus. She had a baby last year (needed a c-section though). I would visit the gp and have a chat. Ask for an ultrasound to check for fibroids. They can cause painful periods. I'm not sure about heavy clotty ones though. I think they can. Go and have a chat. They can feel them if they are there.

PeaGreene · 24/06/2008 23:04

Was your period a lot longer than normal? And has it happened before?

winnie01 · 24/06/2008 23:05

gp can feel fybroids do you mean?

OP posts:
winnie01 · 24/06/2008 23:06

PeaGreene no same time as usual why?

OP posts:
avenanap · 24/06/2008 23:06

yup. Sorry. I'm still having flashbacks of my visit this morning (she says crossing legs).

PeaGreene · 24/06/2008 23:08

Take no notice of my last question, I may be cross posting with your response, cos I'm no expert, but if you're the slightest bit worried, talk to your GP about it. TBH, from what you say in your OP, it sounds like the first time, with no additional pain, so normal. But you're obviously worried.

winnie01 · 24/06/2008 23:08

they can feel them by doing an internal?

OP posts:
PeaGreene · 24/06/2008 23:09

I was asking about length cos I understand fibroids can bring on much longer periods. But I'm really not an expert.

avenanap · 24/06/2008 23:12

Yup. Alot of tummy pushing and proding. Can also feel them externally. My sister can feel hers, she has a few ones which are quite big. I can feel mine if I press on my stomach (uterus area- outside). They are like small bumps.

PeaGreene · 24/06/2008 23:14

Winnie. Stop pushing your stomach around.
