A spoonful of honey (my GP always recommends this)

avenanap · 24/06/2008 21:50

I would try... visiting the GP as it sounds alot like tonsilitis.

LaylaandSethsmum · 24/06/2008 21:50

Gargle with soluble paracetamol but obv not along side your max strength capsules.

Beauregard · 24/06/2008 21:50

Sorry your not well

milge · 24/06/2008 21:51

honey, hot lemon, whisky and more drugs would be my approach.
Gargling with dispersible aspirin is meant to help too, i think.

TracyK · 24/06/2008 21:51

Honey, lemon and glycerine - or just honey and warm water - or soluble asprin/disprin and gargle.

namechangecosfeelingsad · 24/06/2008 21:52

I know it's old-fashioned but 1tbsp set honey dissolved in half a mug of boiling water, sipped through a straw, as often as you want, might help?

snowleopard · 24/06/2008 21:52

You can gargle with salt water. You used to be able to get an amazing spray that numbed your throat - don't know if they still do it - ask the chemist.

cocolepew · 24/06/2008 21:53

Rub Vicks over your throat and up to your ears. On the outside, obviously. Ibruprofen and paracetamol or codeine.

bodiddly · 24/06/2008 21:53

I have a v sore throat as well at the mo .... taking pretty much the same as you ... have just resorted to a bowl of ice cream to see if it helps!

DelGirl · 24/06/2008 21:56

thank you, I forgot the good old lemon and honey but I don't want to swallow. I shall make one, take 2 more lemsip things and go to bed. Hopefully it won't wake me in the night and i'll see the docs tomorrow. Oh it hurts

Should I gargle with scotch? lol

OP posts:
JennsterSlugSlayer · 24/06/2008 21:57

Me too. Ice cream sounds like a good idea. There are loads of sprays you can use. Chloraseptic, Difflam (spray or mouthwash) Covonia to name a few.

avenanap · 24/06/2008 21:57

Scotch is a great idea. Neat if you can . My dad used to give me TCP to gargle. Gross!

DelGirl · 24/06/2008 21:58

Had 3 frozen yoghurts tonight and they didn't help. I don't have vicks but I have got olbas oil but that won't help, will it?

OP posts:
avenanap · 24/06/2008 21:59

No. Olbas doesn't do anything. Smells nice though. have you had a look at your throat in the mirror?

DelGirl · 24/06/2008 21:59

unless I drink it

OP posts:
DelGirl · 24/06/2008 22:00

Yes I have, it doesn't look any different as far as I can tell

OP posts:
avenanap · 24/06/2008 22:01

It's poisonous. Have a look at your throat.

avenanap · 24/06/2008 22:01

Any white spots? IS it red?

DelGirl · 24/06/2008 22:02

A bit red but not much more thatn normal though I don't look at it that often so maybe it is. I hope I can get to see the doc tomorrow

OP posts:
avenanap · 24/06/2008 22:03

Ohh. Sounds sore . Try the honey and lemon. Then the whiskey. Pop to the GP tomorrow.

DelGirl · 24/06/2008 22:08

thanks you . I'm going to have another frozen yoghurt then honey & lemon, then whisky, then throw up probably then take paracetemol and go to bed lol.

No, I shall leave out the whisky

OP posts:
DelGirl · 24/06/2008 22:08

thanks you? thank you!

OP posts:
TracyK · 24/06/2008 22:10

You'd know if it had white spots on it - it looks gross.

Take plenty of Vit C if you can. Do you feel shivery too - or is the paracetemol keeping that at bay?
I got a sore throat down one side at lunchtime today. I took my vitamin pills (which I'd forgotten to do in the morning), plenty of water and it seems fine now.
