Does anyone have or had this line on a thumbnail before please? I'm scared I'm due to see a dermatologist Monday but wanted to ask for opinion please.

As someone who is a chronic sufferer of Health Anxiety and also Medical PTSD due to number of health issues I had a couple years ago, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE STOP googling symptoms, it is the absolute worst thing you can do. I was told off by a doctor for this as it kept sending me spiralling out of control.
I also have lines down my nails, and have done for quite sometime, but I do suffer with contact dermatitis on my fingers. Just let the dermatologist do their job, but on the whole it more likely is that you've damaged your finger/nail bed and this can take months to grow out. Sending you a hug as I know first hand how debilitating health anxiety is ❤️

Hi hun, I've got to have a biopsy but he said it's rare to be melanoma just feel so very scared as makes me think he feels it is cancer 😪 feel so sick xx

Are you highly anxious i see you have also taken photos of marks on other body parts. I know a couple of people who have had these marks for years and its been absolutely nothing. Its very very rare for it to be anything serious.

Did they have biopsies hun? Xx

Op do not feel scared! The dermatologist is just doing his job! This isn’t to diagnose you with something terrible, this is to rule something out! When a lump is found in the breast they do a biopsy, when there are polyps in the womb, they do a biopsy. It’s the rule of thumb! They have to do it! Try and think positively and focus on something else to keep your mind busy. You’ll be fine xx

MyHangryDreamer · 15/06/2026 12:53

My 14yr old daughter had this on her ring finger. She was rushed through and had her nail removed and sent for biopsy. We find out the results this week but since they haven’t called us in sooner I’m assuming all is ok. Best to get it checked.

Gingybread · 15/06/2026 13:00

They have to double check, it’s just part of the process.I have had several biopsies done on moles that have been removed “just to be sure”. The waiting is the worst part, but I will say that if you imagine the worst case is that it is melanoma it nust be a very early one which means you have got yourself in the best situation already. That is how I try to talk myself through my own anxiety in these situations. I try to look at it logically from the worst case scenario and it helps take the peer out of the fear.

Storminthesky · 15/06/2026 14:29

Think of it like this they are taking the biopsy to rule out cancer, not that they think you've got it. Better to be safe than sorry. And sending you a hug again my lovely. And I'm sure it will be ok xxx

Yeah I'm pretty sure thats just protocol its the same when you have things like a breast lump its always done on the 2 week pathway and the majority end up being nothing

I 100% fully get where you are coming from, but my DH and Dad always say to me, don't worry, until it happens and worrying doesn't change the outcome. Took me a long time to focus on these. And just helps you along each day. Try and put your mind to something good.

And also if your on SM don't follow any news outlets etc as they used to set me off to if there was any medical stories or similar on them xxx

I was about to post that no doctor would think you were a time waster getting both of those checked out but then read you have already been seen. Keeping everything crossed that you don't have a long wait, my DH had a 18 week wait for results of biopsies recently, bloody shocking.

I’ve got a similar one on my toenail. I photographed it and monitored it because it freaked me out when I read it could be a melanoma. Might be safer to get it checked.

Is it a line on your toenail? Did you get it checked x

Hi hun, can I ask was the marks on the thumbnail or another nail? X

Hi, hope you don't mind me butting in. I had the line on my thumb nail too. I have been a nail biter for 40 years and still can't stop. But suddenly the line disappeared! It must be a sign to say stop biting my nails!!
