Help with spot inside nose!

Has anyone had one of these painful spots inside the nose? It’s high up so I can’t see it but assume it’s either a spot or a boil - either way, really painful! It hurts to touch the skin from the outside and it’s a bit swollen.

It also hurts when I’m not touching it - it’s throbbing away.

I’m guessing it’ll disappear on its own in a couple more days but I’m also aware it’s in the danger zone (close to brain).

Any advice or suggestions? I’ve taken paracetamol a few times.

Well I wouldn't worry about danger zones or anything like that! I sometimes get them and I put sudocrem on a cotton bud and rub it around up there. I also spend a fair amount of time pressing on the outside to try and pop it 😂

some people advise steam inhalation like when you have a cold but I don't bother with that.

take ibuprofen instead of paracetamol if you can it's better for inflammation

ouchynose · 03/06/2026 12:47

@PinkMagnoliaTree thank you!

I hadn’t thought about trying to pop it, it hurts so much already 🤣
Have you ever successfully popped it that way?

Thanks for ibuprofen suggestion - sadly it irritates my stomach too much, I get what you mean about helping the inflammation.

I had tried putting some antiseptic cream up there but Sudocrem sounds a good shout 😊

Maybe I’ll get a hot cloth tonight and try and press hard 😬

I don’t think a spot in your nose is going to cause problems for your brain!

Painkillers if it’s bad are a good call though.

HuglessDouglass · 03/06/2026 12:55

Yes I've had that, it's horrible. Once high up like you describe, and one just inside my nostril at the tip of my nose, I don't know which was worse 😩 My brain was fine. My mood, not so much.

I hope it disappears quickly for you.

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 03/06/2026 12:59

Mumsnet is obsessed with THE DANGER ZONE 😂

I would dip a cotton bud in hot water and twirl it around or steam inhalation. Savlon on a cotton bud too.

Yeah but you need to be careful, your nostrils actually are the 🎵 Hiighwayy to the Danger Zone 🎵🧠

Haha no I’m sure it’ll be fine, but if you google nose boils it warns you about the Zone of Danger 💀💀💀

My mum used to threaten me with that when I was a teen to stop me squeezing spots on my nose 🤣

Did it stop me? Not at all.

I will gingerly attempt to stick a bit of Sudocrem up there on a cotton bud.
But it’s a painful little bastard 🤣

You might need some prescription ointment from the doctor if the spot persists. I've used two different ones and they're both good.

Oh god I had one the other day, I couldn't cope with it anymore so got the tweezers out. Holy shit, it fair brought tears to the eyes.

Fluteytooting · 03/06/2026 19:33

I get these occasionally - they are so painful but mine always resolve themselves. I’m not really sure what they are!

MalteserGeezee · 03/06/2026 19:35

You need some Naseptin from the doctor I'm afraid

shivermetimbers77 · 03/06/2026 19:36

You need some naseptin ointment via your gp or an online pharmacy prescription. But worth trying a hot compress first .. you have my sympathy , those things are painful as hell!

Tea tree oil on a cotton bud. It will make your eyes water! Always good for the start of a spot.

Crafta · 03/06/2026 22:02

I get cold sores in my nose, it's not one of those is it, they feel a bit swollen and painful from outside

Dunkerquetodover · 03/06/2026 22:04

Don't put sudocreme up there

ouchynose · 04/06/2026 08:50

I was given an appointment next Wednesday 🤣
I’m hoping it’ll all be over by then so that’s not very helpful. Usually you get a same day appointment so I was assuming I’d be able to get some antibiotic cream today.

I’ve never had a cold sore so I assume it’s not that.

Was going to say the same. I always got a sore up my nose after a cold or some other viruses. I never though it was herpes until I inadvertently transferred it to my bum one time by using a tissue in Marks and Spencer's toilet as there was no loo roll! Thankfully it only happens in my nose now and hasn't recurred below !

See above post. I never thought I had herpes either until I went to see a doc about my bum
