For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

so what has happened to that Alan Bennett-esque old lady who lived in the shed?

it was 50p a night when I last went and that wasn't that long ago

oh have had coleslaw and leafy salady bits and a really good asparagus, cherry tomato and cheese tart at the place we went to, Loopy

however did not get to eat that much of it as ds insisted on ordering waldorf salad despite not liking 2/3 of the ingredients (celery, walnuts)
I gave up and let him do it in the end as I thought he would learn from his mistake, then realised I was not prepared to leave him in the care of my Kind Friend without having eaten lunch, so I gave him most of mine

just made myself rather nice strawberry ice cream sundae though. Or Tuesdae. Strawberries, banana

OP posts:
IdrisTheDragon · 24/06/2008 15:23

Strawberries, grapes, brie

TooTicky · 24/06/2008 15:41

brie is not a fruit

Guadalupe · 24/06/2008 17:22

I don't know what happened to her actually. I suspect she would have been quite old by now?

We bumped into old friends of my mother at Stiffkey, I used to camp with them when I was young (my mother was not a camper), and they said you can't camp at Walberswick now, it's protected. I think you can at Southwold, well, you can see caravans across the harbour anyway.

Greek salad for lunch. Tomato and basil tart with asparagus for dinner. Strawberries. Nectarines.

We have only just got home from school. There is a huge playing field and lots of equipment there, also a secret garden miles away at the top and everyone stays in the summer with cakes and icecreams and things. It's nice to make the most of the weather, only a few more weeks until the holidays now. DD is gutted to laeve her teacher. She loves her.

Boco · 24/06/2008 17:22

Toot your grandfather looked like quite a character! Although the blancmange thing is a bit icky.

I did it and spoke to the teacher after another parent today came up to me and said she'd actually noticed dd being 'not allowed' to play with anyone else but these two girls. It was all a bit meh though, with the teacher, she asked dd why she hadn't come and told her when she got the black eye, and dd said 'i tried, but you told me to sit down on the carpet and be quiet'. Teacher said, 'oh, well that must have been a very busy day, you must keep telling me!' Just left it with teacher saying dd must speak to her whenever there's a problem, which she probably won't. And she said it's just one of those things with little girls and friendships.

LOL at thinking I ate 6 tins of peaches I was desperate for some F&V at work and I had to resort to raiding the fridge - the only edible thing was leftover peach slices. I am so not cut out for this 10/10 malarky but I like it here, so I'm staying

Hope Wombling feels better soon. Why are people being difficult about the move, Stuffit?

LOL @ making sex

at the marsh heather & samphire and so much sky and sunsets and Norfolk. Glad the wedding was lovley, MrsC

I don't know what to suggest re DD, Boco. Other than making sure that she should, under no circumstances, pinch/ hit/ hurt someone, even if a 'freind' wants her to do it for a joke. And talk to the teacher. Girls can be very unkind to each other. They do this sort of this all the time. I know that doesn't help. I really dislike girls who are so underhand and manipulative as DD's friend. MrsC's advice was very good.

Lully met David Attenborough?

UnderRated · 24/06/2008 17:32

Oh, sorry the teacher wasn't more helpful, Boco. Poor DD. Maybe things will settle down over the summer holidays? I know that's quite a long time to wait for things to change

Off to read about Toot's grandfather

Guadalupe · 24/06/2008 17:44

I forget you remember it, UR, did you camp there much?

Boco - that is crap. Yes, that is what some girls are like and you don't shrug and say what can you do, you deal with it. I don't know exactly how our teacher deals with it but she is hot on the case of the one or two girls that like to control everybody else and fairly quickly comes down hard on people not being allowed to play with other people.

It is a form of bullying, it is surreptitious and mean and confusing. Maybe she will have to put up with it for the next few weeks but in September I would explain the situation to the new teacher and hope she is a bit more sympathetic.

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2008 17:49

Boco I am sorry it wasn't more reassuring. Things could change enormously over the summer but it is nasty for you both now.

When ds got back from playing with Kind Friend I read him some Glinda of Oz in bed and then fell asleep while he kindly crept around The half awake part of me could hear him whispering "mummy's asleep, I will be very quiet"

he went and played in the garden for about 45 mins - do you think it was ok? I could hear through the window but I was definitely asleep at some points

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 24/06/2008 17:53

ahh, that's so sweet saying mummy is asleep.

I'm sure he is fine in the garden. It's secure isn't it? And if he hurts himself he is likely to coome and wake you up anyway.

stuffitllama · 24/06/2008 18:26

wotcha
isn't buttered toast just delicious
anyway

boco that's very unsatisfactory.. I suspect the teacher wanted to shift the onus onto your daughter because she was quite aware that in a small but important way she had been caught out

I agree with Mrs C's views -- bullying doesn't always look like beating up, it can be invisible and pernicious

I hope she has a more proactive teacher next year

Don't you think when we sleep with dcs we are like cats with ears up.. the slightest strange noise and you would have registered and been in the garden like a shot

I'm just sorting out some girls' clothes and have found some nice ones some unworn. Can I offer them to Mums of dd's
toot bad news have mini skirt for your dd
dh approaches with a gtg

Guadalupe · 24/06/2008 18:37

stuffit - I LOVE buttered toast, when I am not eating wheat or dairy that is what I miss the most.

Franny, can you or someone else help a little on this thread? I seem to be the only voice of not putting a 9 week old on a routine for a tired mum, someone even suggested GF. I keep trying to say it's normal but have no real practical advice.

TooTicky · 24/06/2008 19:03

Boco, how old is your dd? The teacher needs to take this more seriously. My dd1's friendship problems at school started around age 6, continued under the surface, then came to an enormous pus-filled head in year 5. Bad behaviour patterns and habits mustn't be allowed to form.

Franny, your ds is a sweetie. I am sure you would have been aware if there was a problem.

UnderRated · 24/06/2008 19:15

Yum, buttered toast.

Franny's DS sounds lovely

I've had 5 Under 3's here this morning I still have 3 of them but 2 are 'napping' and the other is 'reading'

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2008 19:17

by the time I finished on that thread 2 other 10 / 10ers had got there and done a great job already

re rogue apostrophe [pedant]

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2008 19:17

I only really like buttered toast if it is white

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 24/06/2008 19:20

Thanks

I felt like I was repeating myself and each time I posted somone else would say routine, or bottle and then I would repeat myself again and I had that slightly panicky feeling of someone's feeding decisions being influenced by that thread. God, it is hard isn't it? People are so vulnerable in the early days and with no support, no wonder people give up.

Guadalupe · 24/06/2008 19:23

I don't know how I got through it myself really, there is only so much you can say it's normal before someone thinks well if this is normal then stuff it.

I havent had dinner yet, dcs are in the garden
and I would like to click my fingers and magic them to bed and have a hot meal on my lap and a good film on.

I fear I will be waitng a while for this magic.

UnderRated · 24/06/2008 19:31

Well done to everyone giving good advice - I haven't looked at the thread yet and am not sure I have the patience for it atm.

Good luck finding the magic, MrsC

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2008 19:32

oh dear dp is shouting "help bokashi incident"
I am asking supportive questions and trying desperately not to have to go in there as it scares the wiggins out of me at the best of times

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 24/06/2008 19:32

eh?

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2008 19:36

you know the composty thing that sits in your kitchen and you put magic bran on it
it's quite frightening

the valve at the front where you can drain off the liquid has got knocked off
which means the liquid part of it has run all over the floor
and the screw part that holds the bolt on has fallen into the rotted food on the inside and dp will have to take it all out (it was neary full) and sort through it to find it and put it on again
