Duct tape to remove verruca

Chocolatecoffeecup · 24/04/2026 07:18

I've read about putting duct tape on a verruca. Has anyone done this and had success? If so, how do you do it? Do you keep one piece on or replace it every night and do you let your foot breathe overnight or have tape on constantly? I've got two small ones that I want rid of.

I do a hobby that requires bare feet and I'm convinced it's from there.

Yes we did this with DS after trying everything, including paying for a chiropodist.

You need to leave it on overnight as I think it works by deriving the verruca of oxygen. I could be wrong with that though. You shouldn’t need to replace every night but I expect the hygiene standards of an 8 year old boy and you might be slightly different Smile

I had a big deep verruca for twelve years until someone on here suggested painting it daily with nail varnish. It killed it off within a couple of weeks. Was a bloody miracle!

Sunshineandrainbow · 24/04/2026 07:36

Keep on for 6 days and off for one day. The same piece of tape might not last 6 days so just keep replacing it.

I've seen this too but then I feel like the nail polish would be "infected"

I suppose I could put it on with a cotton bud or something 🤔 The advantage is you wouldn't be able to see. I'm assuming clear nail polish is ok...

Thanks @TinyMouseTheatre @Sunshineandrainbow I've just been shopping and bought some so will give it a go!

Worked for us. Black nail varnish then duct tape. Worked a treat. You need to cut all air and light.

I wonder whether that works with warts as well?

That's interesting - you used nail polish and duct tape 🤔

How often did you repaint the polish on?

I thought a verruca is basically a wart but it's flattened because it's at the bottom of your foot so it probably would work

I had a few as a child. My mum tried everything, even getting sprayed with nitrogen at the doctors. Nothing worked.

Took me back and my own GP (old school) said this is an old wives tale but sure give it a go - rub a potato on them then bury it.
Now I've no idea if it was conincide but I'd had them a good while then, bam, gone. Worth a shot!

Eh?! Bury the potato? That's a new one 😂

I've put a small amount of duct tape on

I like that it's covered so I'm not spreading it at home either

Might try nail polish when the soles of my feet may be visible and I don't want anyone to see black duct tape on my feet! After that I may resort to banana skins and potatoes if this doesn't work!

Go to your chemist and ask for the high strength salicylic acid. Promise you it’s the only thing that works as long as you’re consistent with it every night

This is what I used and it worked but, like you said, has to be consistent

awfulapril · 24/04/2026 22:26

Hi there, we went through all this stuff with my son, including the banana skin stuff
In the end all the doctor had to do was freeze one of them and the whole lot vanishes
they went so rapidly I wish we've taken some photos maybe within a week

hahabahbag · 24/04/2026 22:32

You need to seal it off from the air so it basically kills its self. No sure of the mechanism but it works

Jossse · 24/04/2026 23:20

I tried everything…. Crypto, acid, duct tape, swift, laser, Had a verruca for 24+ years … try H-Oil. Used it for 3 months and it’s finally gone.

Chocolatecoffeecup · 25/04/2026 08:04

Thanks. People have said the duct tape and nail polish thing works so I'm willing to give it a go. However, the duct tape has already come off twice since yesterday evening. I've put a larger piece on now so will see 🤞🏼

Chocolatecoffeecup · 25/04/2026 10:48

The duct tape keeps coming off (it's an own brand and cost £1 from the supermarket) so I've now put some nail polish on and I'm waiting for it to dry. This will be my verruca nail polish, never to be used for anything else 😂

I did black nail varnish (added a blob every few days) with a big strip of duct tape over DS's, changed the duct tape whenever it fell off, took about 2/3 weeks then the 2 he had literally just fell out, amazing.

Do you think the colour makes a difference? I've just got a nudey pink.

MrsBenedict · 25/04/2026 11:53

I don’t know, I think it’s just to block the oxygen from getting to it so I’m sure it’s fine

Chocolatecoffeecup · 25/04/2026 15:08

I'm hoping so 🤞🏼 I haven't out tape on top so I'm hoping the nail polish is enough 🤞🏼🤞🏼
