fullmoonfiend · 20/06/2008 09:44

rhubs, I am so sorry. I have been there with ds1. Please CAT me if you want to.
I really hope it isn't! And if it is, well, don't lose hope, ds1 recovered cmpletely though he was very poorly.

the Meningitis Research Foundation offer fabulous support both now and afterwards. I can't praise them enough. 24 hours a day, they are there for you to fret, rant, cry at etc.

crossing everything for your ds, know how scary that rush to hospital is

StealthPolarBear · 20/06/2008 09:47

i had it very badly at 18 and recovered fully

Rhubarb · 20/06/2008 10:52

I'm sorry, I feel such an idiot now! I was on the phone to NHS Direct and just about to post a "what can this be?" thread in health when they told me to get him to hosp asap because it sounded very much like meningitis. He had a high temp, vomiting and this rash all over, blistery in places. They saw me straight away, did loads of checks and double checks and then diagnosed scarlet fever.
I just thought "scarlet fever? WTF is scarlet fever? Isn't that a Victorian disease?"
Then I wept with the shock and relief that it wasn't meningitis.
He's on a course of antibiots, has to be quarantined etc. Work actually calculated 5 days for the antibiots to work so said I should be back in by Wed! I told them to fuck off.

Sorry for the panic, but I have never panicked so much in my life!

Thank God it's just scarlet fever!

mistypeaks · 20/06/2008 10:56

ANd well done for telling shitty work to fuck off!!

Dotsie · 20/06/2008 10:57

entirely understandable to panic! glad your ds is going to be ok. take it easy over the weekend, take as long as you need off work, and i hope your ds is feeling much better soon.
now put the kettle on! you deserve it!
