If you've had it for years and it hasn't changed or worsened then it's unlikely to be anything worrying, but you should make a GP's appointment just to check.

youalright · 12/04/2026 15:21

I have that i assume it's a cyst I've had it years

Doggodoggo · 12/04/2026 15:23

I have a couple of these and saw a dermatologist and she said it was fine. Something like a build up of serum or something. I have one on my hairline above my forehead and one behind my ear. I wouldn't worry about it but just get your GP to have a look for peace of mind.

Same, I have a few, Doc said they are cysts and nothing to worry about.

FadedRed · 12/04/2026 15:25

Sebaceous cyst from blocked hair follicle. Only a nuisance if they get large or infected, usually from getting caught on your comb. Not cancer.

cuppitycakes · 12/04/2026 15:25

I’ve had several lumps on my head. Look up pilar or sebaceous cysts.

MoaningLeeeeesa · 12/04/2026 15:41

I’ve got a few of these that look the same. Dermatologist said nothing to worry about.

ShinyNewName1988 · 12/04/2026 15:44

I’ve got these in various places on my scalp, small and hard (look identical to yours). They’re sebaceous cysts and harmless (although can occasionally grow big enough to show through hair, you can have them removed if they do but it’s just a cosmetic issue nothing to worry about).

They’re very common, especially in women I think. Every woman in my family has at least one. But you should get it checked out if you’re worried, if nothing else for peace of mind.

Sebaceous cyst. I had a small one the size of a baked bean for about 10 years and then it grew, got really painful and burst. The GP did a minor op on it to remove the sac and 10 years later it's never come back.

PlumPlumb · 12/04/2026 15:56

Oh and my hairdresser said loads of people have them.

Yellowpapersun · 12/04/2026 16:00

I've had one at the back of my head since 2005. I was bitten by something and the little lump was there when the bite healed so it could be scar tissue. It's never grown.

LovingLimePeer · 12/04/2026 16:01

Likely a sebaceous cyst if skin coloured, same surface appearance to surrounding skin, feels like it's in top laters of skin and you can move the lump (i.e. it is not tethered to the deep tissues or skull below). Ask your GP to have a look, they will be able to reassure you.

GPs don’t do this for cosmetic reasons, so it’ll cost a lot to remove it privately.

Allseeingallknowing · 12/04/2026 16:09

Loads of people have them without realising it. If it’s not causing a problem leave it alone , unless it increases in size and is visible

Allseeingallknowing · 12/04/2026 16:18

OP- ever seen Dr Pimple Popper? Now they are what I call cysts. Yours are unnoticeable

landlordhell · 12/04/2026 16:21

It’s a pillar cyst. DH has several. On waiting list to remove as it’s getting bigger but been told it will be many months. Watching Dr Pimple Popper. I am fascinated watching them get squeezed. Nothing to worry about.

On NHS? If so, surprising!

Yes because it flares up and gets red. It’s larger than OP’s and he’s starting to lose hair on it.
