7 years ago I had a very large one removed via NHS because it was causing issues. I’ve got another one now but nhs won’t cover the cost so will need to go private.

There is a whole programme devoted to bumps like these - Dr Pumple Popper. As other have said most likely sebaceous cyst/pillar cyst or more unlikely lipoma - none are cancer.

Watch the show it will make you feel better .

I have one of these too, I’ve had it for years. About fifteen years ago it swelled up and was really painful and then popped when I was fiddling with it while in the bath. It felt like my head exploded. It went back to flat again afterwards but has since grown back without any further pain or exploding.
As Others have said, it’s a cyst. My GP said mine grew back because although it popped the sac remained and refilled. There was no medical need to have it removed though and it’s covered by my hair so doesn’t bother me.

No one on the internet should be diagnosing you. Go and get your GP to look at it.

WhereAreWeNow · 12/04/2026 17:23

I've had these removed on nhs before but it has to be causing problems/risk infection.
Definitely go to GP to rule out anything sinister but I'm pretty sure they'll tell you it's a cyst.

Pimple Popper! Pumple sounds horrid too! Just don’t eat cottage cheese while watching!

Menohaze · 12/04/2026 17:27

Do you have health anxiety?

BurntBroccoli · 12/04/2026 17:35

It’s a pilar cyst. I have a couple and they fill with keratin do they feel hard.

You can get them removed if they are painful or sore.

Or porridge or mashed potatoes. She likes a good food analogy :)

This. No need to panic but get it checked. Good practice to get skin bits and bobs checked .

GPs don’t do this for cosmetic reasons, so it’ll cost a lot to remove it privately.

You can get them removed on the NHS if they have become problematic, eg painful or infected. I've had the procedure done twice now.

Fgfgfg · 12/04/2026 17:44

If you've had it for years and it's not changed I'd say it's a cyst but get it checked out.
Mine got quite big but burst when the dog jumped on my head and accidentally stuck her claw into it. I was in bed at the time.

I recognised your writing style and noticed you have posted about lumps and bumps before, not judging at all, just wanted to check you were ok - do you have a good GP?

… and loads of posters have told you it will most likely be nothing of the sort. Breathe. Get it checked; that’s sensible. If the GP is at all concerned you will be seen by a specialist. This happened to me two weeks ago: GP thought I might have a melanoma. Referred me and I was seen in 48 hours. Dermatologist looked at it and said no. I am high risk and have been before and they normally biopsy if there is any doubt (have had several; all negative). So: cautious is good; but there is a very very high likelihood there is nothing to worry about. Hand hold.

Staceys128 · 12/04/2026 18:09

Yeah I have cbt for my anxiety but at the moment it’s really high hun xx
