Oh Jesus I'm off out to buy industrial strenght condoms for the wknd. Bathing in your socks is how someone referred to wearing condoms but it sure as hell beats bathing a new baba for the next five odd years or so!

Had mirena coil fitted about 10 months after ds was born (was worried about forgetting to take the pill regularly as i was quite depressed)

Insertion done at docs surgery, took a couple of painkiller as advised, was to me no worse than a smear test. Very quick. Felt a little sore for about a day, but just achey not bad really.
Bled intermittingly for about a week after, no heavier than a normal period.
Periods gradually got less and less till now (a year or so later) there's nothing really (very occasional little spot that a pant liner can handle). I do get mad hunger pangs and could eat the entire contents of my housee for a couple of days before i would be "due" though, its the only sign of my cycle.
I have put on a bit of weight but couldnt definitely blame the mirena for that, as i'm not as active as i was after ds was born.
on the whole, quite a positive experience here, would say go for it if it suits you.
