DD1 (2.4) has been unwell and having blood in her poos since Monday, took her to GP and was referred to hospital, they discharged us after a few hours with instruction to take a stool sample and give her diarolyte (which she flat out refuses...)
Yesterday she seemed better, less blood, but this morning it was back, so back to GP, straight to hospital where we were put in a barrier room, then they took bloods from her and put her on a drip as she was refusing water, DH was staying with her while I came home to pack some more stuff as she was banned from playroom and other wards cos of infection.
I come home and am in the kitchen making her snacks when DD2 (8 months) starts crying in the other room, I go in to discover her sitting in a pool of vomit.
Put her in bath, strip her and turn shower on, dress, in car, back to hospital for teatime for DD1 so DH can come home to eat and get his stuff as he will be staying overnight.
halfway there I hear coughing anf pull over to discover DD2 has thrown up again, all over herself and the car seat. I have no water or money and was told by the garage that I couldn't use their bathroom as 'there is free car washing water outside'

Get to hospital, strip DD2 and put her in one of DD1's spare vests, have tea with DD1 who keeps pleading to be allowed to go home, and DD2 has some scotch pancake, and then DD2 throws up again, all over herself, the buggy and the hospital room floor.
Put her in bath (again), strip her and was asked to take her home in case she was infectious (!), (oh, and that if I want a dr to see her I have to take her to GP!) leave, after peeling DD1 off me and leaving her all pale in hospital bed with a drip in wrap her in blanket and scarf, put her in car (in just her nappy as have no other clothes for her!) get her home, feed her and put her to bed.
Come in here to post and just as I start up PC she voms all over herself again, and the cot, and her teddy, and her last clean sleeping bag.
Bath, again, now she is in her last clean vest (as got no washing done today) under a sheet, I daren't feed her again.

Daren't have a drink as might need to drive either DD2 to docs or to hospital for DD1.
Daren't go and get soemthing to eat as I want to be here next to the DD's room so I can hear if DD2 voms again.

thanks for listening, has been quite possibly worse day ever.

Oh Dear Chirpy - you are having a terrible time, you sound very perky though and seem to be coping brilliantly.

How long will dd1 have to stay in for?

ChirpyGirl · 19/06/2008 04:29

thanks, I think I am running a bit on'coping adrenalin' TBH. I don't know how long DD1 has to stay in, they want to wait for test results tomorrow and also until she has pood as they want another sample (and part of me thinks they want to see it as allthey have ot go on is my wordand the pics I took. (Ihopetogodno-one nicksmyphone as there is a file on there full of shitty nappyphotos!)

I amjust hopingit was a one off as itsmelt really foul just like DD1's beforeshe started the blood, amgoing to try and leave it untiltomorrow and then willhave to take her to gp I think...reallyhope she hasn'tgot it too.

And now my space bar is being temperamental!

Oh so sorry to hear about DD2 chirpygirls chances are she has it as well now I'm afraid

Pre DC I used to be a food microbiologist so know more about Campylobacter from the food side of it not the medical side IYSWIM. I would take DD2 up the hospital as well as someone else said at least then you will be together.

I think and don't quote me that hydration is the best thing for it so make sure DD2 is drinking loads.

Camplyobacter usually from undercooked chicken that ring a bell but you can catch it off surfaces etc where raw chicken has been

ChirpyGirl · 19/06/2008 04:58

what I have been thinking is we went to my sister's and DD1helped collect the chicken eggs wiht me, so maybe we didn'twash properly afterwards.
Neither DD eats chicken much so it hasn't been around the house apart fromDH and I having it forcurry but am pretty good about keeping it off work surfaces.
Am going to try and get some kipand then take her when she wakes so at least she is rested. Have given her smallBF as i don't want her to start vomiting again.

this is a lot more serious for an 8 month old isn'#tit?

fuck

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 19/06/2008 04:59

Sounds like the chicken eggs to me, chickens are rife with Campylobacter sorry much more of a problem than Salmonella.

I hope your DD2 only has it mild, what a horrible time for you all try and get some rest.

sandcastles · 19/06/2008 05:00

You sure are having an awful time of it, Chirpy, I hope things get back to normal v soon.

I came across this which give possible ways that it may have been spread from dd1 - dd2 [before you realised how ill dd1 was].

I hope that dd2 hasn't got it, but it doesn't sound promising!

ChirpyGirl · 19/06/2008 05:07

better call my sis in the morning as well then. And we thought it would be such a nice learning experience! and it puts her in hospital! whoops!!!

oh and on saturday dd1 crapped in teh bath [ew], i got dd2 out asap but considering they both drink bathwater [ew, again] that wont have helped.

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 19/06/2008 05:08

aww chirpy don't blame yourself these things happen now go try and get some rest then take DD2 down the hospital and get her checked over

ChirpyGirl · 19/06/2008 05:09

I tend to always change them at the same time, so that could be how it got to dd2

now I feel really bad, poor dd's

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 19/06/2008 05:10

Small kids are yucky it's a fact I would have been more surprised if DD2 hadn't got it TBH not your fault.

sandcastles · 19/06/2008 05:38

Don't beat yourself up! You are having a hard enough time as it is!

It is just life, one gets something & then other does...that's how it happens!

Hope you get some rest at some point...

ChirpyGirl · 19/06/2008 07:11

managed to get some kip along with dd2 who has just filled a nappy again with bad diarrhea, so on phone again to ooh gp!

ChirpyGirl · 19/06/2008 07:27

her being sick was my fault as she was having a nice sleepy feed and i knew she was having too much but didnt have heart to take her off!

nurseon phone heard her go, she wasmost impressed with the noise!

OP posts:
ChirpyGirl · 19/06/2008 07:56

obv that was lucky as i dont have tokeep making new feeds uponly to have them thrown back at me!

have been told to take her back to regular gp, apparentlyits unlkely she has same as dd1

is v upsetting that i cant speak to or see dh or dd1 as dd2 is not allowed on ward and his phone reception is so bad i cant speak to him!

OP posts:
ChirpyGirl · 19/06/2008 08:17

feel a bit better, rang ward and they took the parents cordless phone into dh so had a chay. he is dying for a coffee so is going to leave dd1 with a nurse while he has brekkie in the cafe.

MIL has been scrambled now to help so i can leave dd2 for a bit with her to relive mike. not sure how hasppy i am about that tbh!

OP posts:
ChirpyGirl · 19/06/2008 08:17

just realised my thread title looks bad this early in the morning
also, n-one offered me wine!

OP posts:
sandcastles · 19/06/2008 08:52

Lol @ no one offering wine....I don't have any here....on account of being 8 months pregnant! But if I did...you could have it!

Big co incidence that dd2 is ill but prob not what dd1 has tho....like you say

Glad you will be able to see dd1 today too & had a nice chat with your dh! Can imagine it is hard on you both!

thritbies · 19/06/2008 09:00

Chirpy I am sweating just reading this, you poor thing! Hope the dds are ok and feel much better very soon, and you get to see dd1 today.

BEAUTlFUL · 19/06/2008 10:01

Chirpygirl, you are coping brilliantly. Am v inspired with your amazing attitude, really!

Love the sound of your take-charge DH too, phwoargh.

Hope your girls are much better very soon.

I don't have wine, but I always have G&T in my hipflask -- here you go ... Steady on! It's only 10am!

OrmIrian · 19/06/2008 10:08

Poor you! Sounds like my idea of hell.

Hope things improve soon and your LOs feel better.

bossybritches · 19/06/2008 11:16

Hope you can get some help soon Chirpy if only so you (or someone else) can get a load of washing done for you& air the house!

As others have said one of those things really- chin up it will improve honestly!

leaves bottle of nice white wine in fridge for later

ChirpyGirl · 19/06/2008 12:29

Thanks guys, got some diarolyte from doc (am on mobile so will give full saga later) but first 150ish ml came straight back up, she appears to have kept last lot down so far. Plus another bad nappy. Doc said leave until 1 but if still bad to call + take Nessa in too.
on plus side lana is off drip and done poo with no blood so dh is just waiting for dr to do his rounds as he is hoping she can come home.

Oh, and thanks for yelling at mil! She is still desperate to come help, and if they dont discharge lana ill need it!
