Calcium Deposits in kidneys

abcdefg2020 · 24/02/2026 14:14

Hi! I just wanted to jump on and see if anyone knows what’s going on?

Ive Been having on and off stomach pain and UTI like symptoms for the last couple months, so bad that we thought it was my appendix on numerous occasions.

had an ultrasound a week ago, they’ve called me today to tell me I have ‘calcium deposits on my kidneys’ and they’re referring to urology. I’ve not been feeling well since yesterday, fever, uti symptoms again, stomach pain, headache, hurting to wee, urgency those sorts of things. Blood in my wee too, they’ve asked me to go down and give a sample and booked an urgent appointment today too.

Ive never heard of calcium deposits before especially in the kidneys and she didn’t really explain to me fully what it is. Has anyone else had this?

They said it’s called nephrocalcinosis apparently?

OP posts:
ClaredeBear · 24/02/2026 17:03

are they testing you for parathyroidism?

ClaredeBear · 24/02/2026 17:05

If it turns out to be a problem with one or more of your parathyroid (usually a BENIGN tumour), it can impact other organs like your pancreas.

I’m not entirely sure, I went to see my gp this afternoon and my urine has blood in it but no infection. The surgeons at the hospital asked me to take antibiotics and to come in for a urgent ct scan tomorrow morning at half 8in the morning

I’m only 23 years old so I’m not sure how common all this is for my age

OP posts:
MissCooCooMcgoo · 24/02/2026 17:38

Is it not kidney stones?

ClaredeBear · 24/02/2026 18:14

You are very young for these things, that’s true. But you’re getting medical attention now so that’s great news and I’m sure you’ll find out more tomorrow, after your scan. Will you keep us posted?

Tintackedsea · 24/02/2026 18:18

Is that same as kidney stones? I’ve just been diagnosed with those. My gp said she was speaking to urology and see what to do next.

Racheyroo1974 · 24/02/2026 18:33

Let us know how you get on.

abcdefg2020 · 24/02/2026 18:54

My doctor did say kidney stones were a reason for this to happen, but she said she didn’t want to talk about the more serious things until it’s been checked out. They’re not sure whether these calcium deposits were stones or something else

i will do! I’m nervous and have people to vent to

OP posts:
abcdefg2020 · 24/02/2026 18:58

I’m also being referred to urology as I’m having uti symptoms really badly but no infection

Always here to listen.

abcdefg2020 · 25/02/2026 09:06

Morning everyone! I’m currently at the hospital. So yesterday 4pm my urine was clear except a trace of blood. This morning it’s positive for everything, blood, protein, leukocytes ! I’m in more pain. Been admitted onto the surgical ward and waiting for a room, they’ve taken bloods and also requested a CT scan. Wasn’t expecting this so early in the morning

Racheyroo1974 · 25/02/2026 09:11

Morning! It wull be ok. At least they are going to check you out and work out what goings on. Stay strong. Keep us updated

abcdefg2020 · 25/02/2026 12:32

Just been discharged on a virtual ward, will receive my CT scan in the next day or two. I’m on antibiotics and another one I can’t remember. My bloods come back okay with my white blood count slightly over the threshold but so far my kidney function looks okay. My urine output was really bad though, my RBC was 14556 and my other ones as well I can’t remember everything exactly but because of these deposits on my kidneys they want to check with a CT incase it’s any stones

I have a CT scan tomorrow morning, my urine symptoms have chilled out a little bit so I’m kinda worried I’m gonna get this CT and there will be nothing there

That’s understandable- but on the other hand, if there’s nothing there, that’s a good thing and they might still be able to diagnose. I hope it goes well.

abcdefg2020 · 27/02/2026 10:28

Had the CT this morning, they didn’t say anything to me at all. Have to wait for the doctors to call me for the results

abcdefg2020 · 27/02/2026 14:05

My CT is clear apparently, nothing there. I don’t understand, I AM in pain, it showed something on my ultrasound and now miraculously there’s nothing there so no cause to my pain? I don’t get ir

Are you going to see a consultant? It’s not unusual for this to happen and no one will think you’re asking this up - your blood tests prove there’s an issue. I’m sure the consultant will put your mind at rest. Do you have a follow up appointment?

abcdefg2020 · 28/02/2026 11:20

I don’t, they’ve discharged me back to my GP. My bloods were okay, it’s the urine that was all messed up. But even though I had every turn wrong with my wee, there wasn’t any infection attached to my wee. It said there wasn’t any growth on my sample, these antibiotics are also not doing anything to help. My kidney area is still hurting too

I’m so sorry there’s nothing definitive just yet but I do know scans don’t always show everything. I have some experience with high calcium and calcium deposits, but not with the kidneys. I am assuming they’ve tested your parathyroid levels it if not, that might be worth pursuing but your GP can no doubt go through your tests. Having said that, it was missed with us for sometime so worth flagging imo. You would be exceptionally young for that but it’s not completely unheard of and very easy to treat. I hope someone with kidney experience comes along and in the meantime, are you able to make an appointment with your GP?
