Cantaloupe, cantaloupe! Will you eat the bad mango? - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Ooh ooh I am an aunt

And DS and DD are cousins

Baby was born at 2:15 this afternoon and we will go and see her tomnorrow I hope

Guadalupe · 18/06/2008 16:58

mutants one here

these aren't so good but they often have better

DD loved this one

they are all tins though, lots of people don't want tins.

Guadalupe · 18/06/2008 16:59

congrats, Idris

TigerFeet · 18/06/2008 17:42

Ooooh I like the tins - why don't people like them? Do they fall apart? I suppose they aren't very insulating, they are going to be left in the cloakroom until lunchtime which isn't so good on a warm day. Do they only tend to last a year anyway? (God I never thought I'd be having conversations about lunch boxes ffs )

Congratulations Idris . Is this your first foray into auntiehood? I quite fancy being an auntie, but dh is an only child and my two grown up brothers aren't showing any sign of giving up their committed single lifestyles and my sister is 16 and will hopefully wait a good few years before going forth and multiplying.

IdrisTheDragon · 18/06/2008 17:44

It is my first foray into auntiehood - DH and I are both the oldest in our families so have been patient and waited

littlerach · 18/06/2008 17:47

Tins bash around a lot.

And I detest lunch bags as they aleways seem grubby.

Yes, TooTicky, dd2 is really looking forward to it. She had an afternoon there last week, and has 2 more. She attends the preschool attached so is very familiar with both children and the environment. And I htink very highly of the Head, she is a fantatsic woman. They had their Ofsted last week, so I iwll be interested in how they did.

If I have one moan/gripe it is that the reception teacher is pg and will be going on maternity leave over the summer. But they don't meet their new tecaher until september. Then the current one will be back just after Easter. So a fair bit of disruption.

Add to that the fact that the same tecaher was there when dd1 was that age, and she was pg at that time too!

Hurrah for positive blood results and hurrah again for spatone

littlerach · 18/06/2008 17:55

Idris, my sis is due in july.
I have a nephew on dh's side, his sis, but as they livein USA and we rarely see them, it isn't the same.

Apricots and raisins.
Banana
Grapes
Tomatoes and cucmber
Aubergine and tomato with pasta.
Apple.

fullmoonfiend · 18/06/2008 18:03

oh glumness. I hate school ds2 is now having problems with a gang of boys in his class picking on him to make him lose his temper (easily done) and therefore get him into trouble....He used to be reasonably popular, I don't know what has happened to make them all turn against him.

TooTicky · 18/06/2008 18:11

Oh NO fmf
Ds1 used to have this problem - he is very easily wound up.
Doesn't it make you want to tie the little sods to a hedge just before the muckspreader passes? No? Just me then.

Oh, dp says £24 for canvas stretched over a frame, with design as you wish. How does that sound? It sounded a lot to me but he assures me it is discounted.
Did you get my long email about cake?

Guadalupe · 18/06/2008 18:18

FMV - it's awful, really awful. You feel helpless and just want to grab them by the scruff don't you? Kids can be very cruel.

Tigerfeet - the tins are clunky and they do rust eventually but all mine have lasted the year ok, they always want a new one in september anyway.

I am certain the sandwiches are fine in the summer. You can always freeze a carton of juice or those special sticks if you're worried.

fullmoonfiend · 18/06/2008 18:20

so is ds2. we have acheived wondrous things in terms of anger management over the years but I live in constant worry of him losing it big time...
Will make appointment to chat to teacher tomorrow. Sigh. I don't have the energy right now, I am too busy fretting over secndary school for ds1!

fullmoonfiend · 18/06/2008 18:20

the worst thing is, these are boys he has chosen to go into class with next year.

TooTicky · 18/06/2008 18:28

Can he change his mind?

TigerFeet · 18/06/2008 18:31

FMF some children can be really horrible at times can't they? I agree Toot a good muckspreading would sort 'em.

I really must stop looking on t'internet for lunch boxes (I am actually rather taken by this one) and go and do something productive. Like interacting with dd maybe . I am now wondering if one of the myriad of bags she already has will do as a lunch bag. Hmm . I am fixating on cute lunchboxes somewhat. Possibly because if I fixate on something pointless and fluffy it will stop me thinking about (gulp) school.

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2008 18:39

FMF that is grim
especially as you have worked so hard to help him with this problem
what are school saying / doing about it?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2008 18:40

lettuce, cucumber, tomato, carrot, avocado, artichoke hearts, broad beans, new potatoes, chickpeas

3?

fullmoonfiend · 18/06/2008 19:29

TooTicky · 18/06/2008 19:38

Ah but Tigerfeet, those bag things are a pain in the arse to wash.

FrayedKnot · 18/06/2008 19:51

Oh dear fmf

Hope you get some sense out of the school tomorrow

Have had giant salad of broad beans, roasted cherry toms, pepper & leaves, with feta cheese.

fullmoonfiend · 18/06/2008 20:14

I have just read the shehazerade threads in full and totally cheered me up.
