Just looking for some advice as unsure what to do and don't really have anyone to discuss with and need to figure out if I need to go to a&e or not. So I was half lying down on the couch with my 3 year old daughter who is sick this evening, she fell asleep under my right arm. I had my phone in my left hand and noticed my arm starting to get really weak, I couldn't hold my phone. I swapped my phone over, put my left hand/arm down and then suddenly my left hand and arm went completely dead, I called my partner who kept asking me to lift my left arm which I couldn't do. He moved my daughter who was asleep off of me and I still could not lift my arm off the couch. Both sides got weak and I had trouble moving my legs also. He had to lift me up to sitting position and lifted my arms up and starting shaking them and the feeling started coming back to them. Following this I felt a bit out of it. I still now don't feel right and have no idea what just happened.... I didn't get any pins and needles just could not lift my arms at all. Feeling very tired now

I think this warrants some official medical advice OP

Overthebow · 27/11/2025 20:44

I’m not medical but I would think you should call 111 for their advice on what to do.

LittleGidding25 · 27/11/2025 20:46

Call 111, they will probably advise A&E.

Nevergotdivorced · 27/11/2025 20:46

Please go to hospital or at least call 111.

A friend recently had similar symptoms, it was an aneurysm on her spine.

She is fine but only because of fast intervention.

PrincessofWells · 27/11/2025 20:47

You need medical advice now.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 27/11/2025 20:47

A&E

TalulahJP · 27/11/2025 20:48

A and E asap. Do not hesitate. Youre in the golden hour and it could be a stroke.

Christmasagainohno · 27/11/2025 20:49

I'd go straight to A and E

MigGirl · 27/11/2025 20:51

This definitely requires medical intervention. I would also probably start off by ringing 111, they may advise a&e anyway but I have a tendency not to rush off to a&e myself.

JudgeBread · 27/11/2025 20:51

A&E now. NOW. Get off Mumsnet.

Sudden weakness in arms and legs can be a sign of a stroke. Don't piss about ringing 111, I've literally worked answering 111 calls and one of the questions in the script is have you felt sudden onset weakness in your arms and legs - if the caller answers yes we refer straight to A&E.

Zippidydoodah · 27/11/2025 20:52

As others have said, I’d be worried about a stroke and would go to a&e. My first thought was “dead arm” from your daughter lying on it but it seems way more serious than that.

TimeAndTidalwave · 27/11/2025 20:53

Agree with the others if you can’t lift your arms up above your chest you need to go to A&E. Hopefully you’re on your way…

LittleGidding25 · 27/11/2025 20:54

The suddenness of this suggests a TIA or stroke. Treat it as an emergency.

TimeAndTidalwave · 27/11/2025 23:01

Hope you’re ok @Everestisthebest and the wait at A&E isn’t too long, assuming you’ve gone.

sellthebigissue · 27/11/2025 23:19

Hope you are okay, OP X

176509user · 27/11/2025 23:29

111 or 999
Ambulance will at very least triage you and get you seen within 4 hr window if suspected stroke

Everestisthebest · 28/11/2025 01:44

Hello everyone, just want to say thank you for the comments. I went straight to a&e after posting. Will be staying overnight to get scans done tomorrow. Dr mentioned possible mini stroke. Very scary. Here by myself and don't really know how to feel

Thinking of you and sending positive vibes. You are in the right place. Hopefully all is ok Flowers

LittleGidding25 · 28/11/2025 02:23

You’ve done the right thing and will be monitored all night, hopefully you can get some sleep 😴

H202too · 28/11/2025 02:23

So glad you went to hospital. Rest you are in the right place.

Cheddars · 28/11/2025 02:27

That does sound scary but you’re in the right place to get yourself sorted. Hopefully you can get some sleep!

Everestisthebest · 28/11/2025 05:29

No sleep here, was triaged then sent to a waiting area and have been sat on a chair since I got here at 9.30pm. Getting ct scan hopefully at 7am but most likely will be later. That's the Irish healthcare system for ya...

Glad to read that you are in hospital. Keep us updated x

DyslexicPoster · 28/11/2025 08:20

Good luck with the scan

chunkyBoo · 28/11/2025 08:26

Glad you’ve sought medical help immediately. It
could be a TIA, but certainly warrants lots of blood tests to check what’s happening - good luck
