Handhold if anyone’s around? Scan yesterday at 5pm, GP called this morning

Wondering if anyone has any experience/insights?
Late 40s, on HRT. Cycle usually still rock solid, horrendously heavy, except for last few (2-3) months - spotting, random bleeds, periods when not due. Bit of pelvic discomfort.
Went to GP, but kind of hoped assumed it was the beginning of the end of periods and just the timing going haywire/and to find out how I should be taking progesterone as had previously been on that Day 15-28 and cycle being out of whack meant that that regime was going to be hard to do. GP said she could feel something on the left hand side. Recent CA125 was fine, recent smear was clear ‘but cervix is very red’. My cervix has always defied medical science (that’s another story) so wasn’t unduly worried. They upped progesterone to 200mg daily, put me on the 2 week wait for internal/external US. It’s been 5 weeks 😬but I had the US last night after 5 o’clock. Sonographer was rummaging around for ages (over 30 mins) and made a point of saying the GP will be in touch, but if they aren’t, you must contact them. I know they usually can’t/don’t say much. Told myself that it was good that the tests have been done and that I’d hear in due course, not to worry in the meantime. Then this morning I have had 3 calls from the GP before 10am, which I missed as was in a work meeting with phone off. I called them back and they asked me to come in at noon. So now of course I am absolutely shitting myself, and have self-diagnosed with every gynae cancer going.
Don’t know what I’m asking for really, other than a handhold, and if anyone has had similar happen and it turned out to be something that wasn’t nefarious. I feel lucky that at least I find out what’s going on this morning but the speed at which they’ve followed up is terrifying me 😧Speculation of course, but I can’t help but feel that if this was, I dunno, fibroids, there wouldn’t be this level of urgency this morning

OP posts:

Hand hold here too!
Take some comfort that your CA125 test was normal, that's fairly good at picking up ovarian cancers. Best of luck at GP and all fingers crossed.

Another one adding my good wishes.
6 years ago now an MRI scan for something unrelated picked up a large mass in my stomach.
5 weeks later I had major surgery to remove an ovarian tumour that weighed 50lb.
I had a complete hysterectomy, they removed my appendix as well and on the way out they repaired an umbilical hernia that had been causing me trouble for a few years!
The tumour turned out to be completely benign and no further treatment was required.
I know the complete and utter fear and I’m giving you a virtual hug 🙂

I had a 10lb one and thought that was big enough - you poor thing! Laparotomy hurts though eh? Ouch. Glad you're all good now and love the hernia story :-)

Mine had cancer cells in it, but pretty much all sorted with removal of the cyst and tubes. Kept an eye on me with scans and regular CA125.

Sending love - I hope everything is ok.

AlleycatMarie · 21/11/2025 15:50

Hi @GiveOverWillYou I hope it went ok with the GP. Just to say, I had an internal and external pelvic ultrasound that picked up a need for surgery and an MRI - there was no way of knowing until biopsy if this was benign or cancerous. So just to say, even if they have found something needing further investigation, it doesn’t mean the worst. Thinking of you.

anyolddinosaur · 21/11/2025 15:56

Hope you have been seen now and reassured that even if something further is needed it may be easily treatable.

BTW bleeding is more likely to be a problem with the endometrium than the ovaries. Endometrial problems are often very treatable.

Joystir59 · 21/11/2025 16:04

GumFossil · 21/11/2025 17:41

Hope it’s nothing to worry about, OP.

I have had a few vaginal ultrasounds and I hate that they go completely quiet, it makes me really anxious.

Thisismynewname23 · 21/11/2025 17:55

I hope everything was ok x

Fairyladyonwheels · 21/11/2025 17:58

Floatlikeafeather2 · 21/11/2025 18:13

Assuming you are with the NHS, I have to say this isn't at all how it all went with my diagnosis. Mine was a phonecall appointment with GP who was worried enough to immediately put me on the Pathway. Nearly 3 weeks after that I had internal and external ultrasound scans, a hysteroscopy and biopsy. A couple of weeks later I had an MRI (this, I understand, is the actual diagnostic tool) but then there was a wait of nearly a month for a diagnosis to be made, waiting for the radiologist's report. I therefore very much doubt that any kind of actual diagnosis will be available with just an ultrasound, after less than 24hours. Try not to worry at this stage.

Odiebay · 21/11/2025 18:13

I hope you are ok xxx

TruJay · 21/11/2025 18:15

It was a huge ovarian cyst for me, I’ve always had them but usually they’d pop on their own (agony) this time though it had just kept growing and growing and began twisting my ovary and in turn, my tube. I could feel it and see it popping out of my belly when I laid flat and some days looked around 6 months pregnant with how swollen I was! My CA125 was risen and my doc called me at 6am the following morning and put me on the 2 week pathway, all very scary but pleased they were acting so fast. I had surgery to have it removed and she said any longer and it would have twisted, ruptured and probably ended up with a full hysterectomy.

Sending you well wishes x

Owlmoonstar · 21/11/2025 18:18

I hope you had a not so scary update 💞
