Handhold if anyone’s around? Scan yesterday at 5pm, GP called this morning

Wondering if anyone has any experience/insights?
Late 40s, on HRT. Cycle usually still rock solid, horrendously heavy, except for last few (2-3) months - spotting, random bleeds, periods when not due. Bit of pelvic discomfort.
Went to GP, but kind of hoped assumed it was the beginning of the end of periods and just the timing going haywire/and to find out how I should be taking progesterone as had previously been on that Day 15-28 and cycle being out of whack meant that that regime was going to be hard to do. GP said she could feel something on the left hand side. Recent CA125 was fine, recent smear was clear ‘but cervix is very red’. My cervix has always defied medical science (that’s another story) so wasn’t unduly worried. They upped progesterone to 200mg daily, put me on the 2 week wait for internal/external US. It’s been 5 weeks 😬but I had the US last night after 5 o’clock. Sonographer was rummaging around for ages (over 30 mins) and made a point of saying the GP will be in touch, but if they aren’t, you must contact them. I know they usually can’t/don’t say much. Told myself that it was good that the tests have been done and that I’d hear in due course, not to worry in the meantime. Then this morning I have had 3 calls from the GP before 10am, which I missed as was in a work meeting with phone off. I called them back and they asked me to come in at noon. So now of course I am absolutely shitting myself, and have self-diagnosed with every gynae cancer going.
Don’t know what I’m asking for really, other than a handhold, and if anyone has had similar happen and it turned out to be something that wasn’t nefarious. I feel lucky that at least I find out what’s going on this morning but the speed at which they’ve followed up is terrifying me 😧Speculation of course, but I can’t help but feel that if this was, I dunno, fibroids, there wouldn’t be this level of urgency this morning

I had a similar experience, but I was post menopausal and had a lot of pelvic pain so was referred for a scan which found a big ovarian cyst and because of my age I was put on the fast track at hospital. I was really scared wating but it turned out to be non-cancerous so I just had to have scans to check how it was growing. The waiting is the worst part, I will be thinking of you.

Overthebow · 21/11/2025 13:55

Hope you’re ok op

Mummyratbag · 21/11/2025 13:58

I had a bit of post meno bleeding >> scan >> called back >> hysteroscopy >> operation due to dodgy ovarian cyst .. lots of tests, biopsies and general panic, but was all clear. Each test led to another and I was convinced it was game over as the cyst had been there (and deemed OK) 4 years previously. I really hope it's nothing OP. Before anyone panics about untreated cysts - mine was complex and not easily seen on ultrasound.

SockFluffInTheBath · 21/11/2025 14:01

Hope you’re doing ok OP 💐

I hope all is OK.

stoptheridenow · 21/11/2025 14:10

I had a similar experience last year, was absolutely terrified. Was put on the 2 week wait for a biopsy and whipped into hospital within days and the biopsy showed nothing unusual and was given the all clear - meno related and nothing more. I know how frightening that is and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. On the one hand it’s great they act fast but it really does make you worry. I hope you get some answers soon, sending virtual hugs your way.

Better to have discovered this now and not in say 3 or 6 months - that is a positive isn't it?

My sister had one large ovarian cyst the size if a tennis ball that had twisted around on itself. Emergency surgery to remove it and several other smaller cysts. She was told that her chances of conceiving were probably significantly reduced as one ovary had been damaged - she'd previously had one miscarriage but a year after this prognosis she was pregnant again and carried him full term without any other problems bar the usual morning sickness, back ache, water retention, etc.

Living with the uncertainty of the moment is terrible but just focus on getting some facts first - even if the results are not what you hope for or as definite and clear as you would like - there's always a long way to go from this point onwards. Lets hope for the best eh?

Another one adding my good wishes.
6 years ago now an MRI scan for something unrelated picked up a large mass in my stomach.
5 weeks later I had major surgery to remove an ovarian tumour that weighed 50lb.
I had a complete hysterectomy, they removed my appendix as well and on the way out they repaired an umbilical hernia that had been causing me trouble for a few years!
The tumour turned out to be completely benign and no further treatment was required.
I know the complete and utter fear and I’m giving you a virtual hug 🙂

I thought 50lb was a typo, it appears not. OMG, that must have been a relief.

thinking of you.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 21/11/2025 14:42

I'm going through the same thing at the moment @GiveOverWillYou so I understand how frightened you are.
I'm waiting to go in for a biopsy.

Sunshineismyfavourite · 21/11/2025 14:59

I hope your news has been positive OP. It was discovered I had a big mass on my ovaries totally unbeknown to me after I collapsed at home in excruciating pain, thinking it was a kidney stone. I was told it could be cancerous but they wouldn't know for sure until they had removed it. I had a full hysterectomy and thankfully it was benign. I hope your news is the same. Sending hugs x

LeadOnMcMuffin · 21/11/2025 14:59

I went through something similar over the summer so completely understand how frightening it is. All was well for me (a simple cyst that went of its own accord before it needed removing.) I really hope all is well for you too, but whatever the outcome, finding out sooner is always best ❤️

Benjithedog · 21/11/2025 15:02

Handhold and hoping for positive news for you

T1mesAreHardForDreamers · 21/11/2025 15:02
