Handhold if anyone’s around? Scan yesterday at 5pm, GP called this morning

Wondering if anyone has any experience/insights?
Late 40s, on HRT. Cycle usually still rock solid, horrendously heavy, except for last few (2-3) months - spotting, random bleeds, periods when not due. Bit of pelvic discomfort.
Went to GP, but kind of hoped assumed it was the beginning of the end of periods and just the timing going haywire/and to find out how I should be taking progesterone as had previously been on that Day 15-28 and cycle being out of whack meant that that regime was going to be hard to do. GP said she could feel something on the left hand side. Recent CA125 was fine, recent smear was clear ‘but cervix is very red’. My cervix has always defied medical science (that’s another story) so wasn’t unduly worried. They upped progesterone to 200mg daily, put me on the 2 week wait for internal/external US. It’s been 5 weeks 😬but I had the US last night after 5 o’clock. Sonographer was rummaging around for ages (over 30 mins) and made a point of saying the GP will be in touch, but if they aren’t, you must contact them. I know they usually can’t/don’t say much. Told myself that it was good that the tests have been done and that I’d hear in due course, not to worry in the meantime. Then this morning I have had 3 calls from the GP before 10am, which I missed as was in a work meeting with phone off. I called them back and they asked me to come in at noon. So now of course I am absolutely shitting myself, and have self-diagnosed with every gynae cancer going.
Don’t know what I’m asking for really, other than a handhold, and if anyone has had similar happen and it turned out to be something that wasn’t nefarious. I feel lucky that at least I find out what’s going on this morning but the speed at which they’ve followed up is terrifying me 😧Speculation of course, but I can’t help but feel that if this was, I dunno, fibroids, there wouldn’t be this level of urgency this morning

There won't be a woman on this earth (including Mumsnet) who, knowing about the challenges you are facing, won't be thinking of and praying for you. God bless you. Xx

Hi OP

Just to share my story in the hope it might help.

CA125 off the scale (2,447). Large mass detected on my right ovary. I was 52 so had full hysterectomy, ovaries etc removed. The mass turned out to be cancerous and huge (20cm or so). Think consultant and gynae doctor doing mimes of rugby balls when I saw them after I was back on the ward.

It was stage 1c (lucky, lucky me) and I underwent 18 weeks of chemo voluntarily ( I had the choice given the early staging).

This was 10 years ago and I remain well and cancer free.

Lots of good thoughts and wishes coming your way OP

❤️

RunsABit · 17/12/2025 13:30

Thinking of you OP, sending every bit of strength and positivity

Skyflyinghigh · 17/12/2025 13:35

I had endometrial cancer stage 2. Had full hysterectomy with ovaries and all the gubbins removed via keyhole surgery. Had 3 rounds of internal radiotherapy (brachytherapy) which was fine and I’m here now 5 years later cancer free and perfectly healthy. Wishing you lots of luck xx

StrawberryJangle · 17/12/2025 13:47

What a dramatic read.

I've been going through the same since last November. MRI, hysteroscopy and biopsy. Now they want to do another 7 months later to double check.

Maybe I've become numb to it all.

ChillyToday12345 · 17/12/2025 13:48

Wishing you the best of luck for your results tomorrow. I really hope the news is good and I like many others on here will be thinking of you.

As a side note I had a 20cm benign tumour, ovaries and tubes out via keyhole so hopefully keyhole will be possible for you too.

loulouljh · 17/12/2025 14:12

I have had similar worries recently and tests so can appreciate the worry. What sort of helped with me was trying to be glad that my body was giving me a warning sign something was wrong so it could be fixed. You are on route to being fixed...that has to be good.

DoYouThinkYouCouldTell · 17/12/2025 14:29

@GiveOverWillYou , I wish you some peace whilst you wait for your results.

My friend had a very similar diagnosis last year, lady in her 50s, post menopausal.
She had a complete hysterectomy. Her grapefruit wasn't cancerous thankfully, and she recovered well from the surgery and was back to her physical job in 8 weeks.
Prior to the surgery, she was wiped out, no energy, off work (not like her) and just sleeping.
Be kind to yourself 💚

Friendlyfart · 17/12/2025 14:35

Good luck for the results. X

Queenofthestonage · 17/12/2025 14:44

I had a similar experience around 10 years ago, sent for multiple tests/scans because of a “mass” on my ovary. Turned out to be a huge fibroid on the exterior of my uterus which had also somehow adhered to my bladder. I had a total hysterectomy. Additional biopsies were taken during the op because they found more fibroids/polyps. Nothing malignant and although I had a very large incision and the operation took almost 6 hours I recovered very quickly. Fingers crossed for you x

AliceAbsolum · 17/12/2025 14:47

What's happening to you is literally exactly the same as what I went through last summer. Honestly couldn't be more similar.

What's your ca125 thingy result?

Mine was a giant fibroid. Removed with surgery I was out the next day.

Fingers crossed for you xx

GreyBeeplus3 · 17/12/2025 14:58

Am sending you love and good wishes whilst squeezing very tightly in a big hug
Hoping everything is okay
And it all goes your way XXX

SecretNameAsImShy · 17/12/2025 15:01

Only just picked up on your thread. Handhold here for you. I can't offer any advice as I am no expert and haven't been through this but I'm here for you.

AnotherEmma · 17/12/2025 15:06

Best of luck, OP. I hope you get some answers ASAP, and that it's good news, or rather the least bad in the circumstances.

WearyAuldWumman · 17/12/2025 15:26

I'm glad that you have access to some private treatment, OP.

I had a problem earlier this year and finished up paying to go private. My GP had told me that the wait was 2 weeks; when I phoned up the relevant office, I was told that it was 16-18 weeks if I agreed to go to a hospital in another area.

I'm grateful for the NHS, but I've now gone private on two occasions. (On one occasion, I was told that the scan that I needed was no longer available in Fife. The private chap that I saw was the person who used to do the scans for Fife.) You do what you have to do.

Cranarc · 17/12/2025 15:43

I have not added to the thread until now, as I have no relevant experience of this particular health issue, though I have plenty of experience of the general NHS inefficiencies. Thanks for updating. I really hope you have full information soon and can update with news that is far away from the worst you fear. Sending you good wishes.

XWKD · 17/12/2025 16:20

Quite apart from all the worry -which is exhausting, this whole thing just seems like such an endless ordeal. ❤️

ChefsKisser · 17/12/2025 18:06

Thinking of you and keeping everything crossed what a stressful time! I work for the nhs and I recognise all the issues you’ve experienced and can only apologise. Care should be better.

Isometimeswonder · 17/12/2025 18:35

Just another message saying thoughts are with you. We are all rooting for you x

Fairy25 · 17/12/2025 20:02

The same thing happened to me, they said on the phone that my womb lining was very thick and they suspected womb cancer, I was referred for urgent investigation with biopsies and then didn’t hear any for months and it all turned out fine. Just needed to add more progesterone to HRT.

Lilactimes · 17/12/2025 20:35

Hi @GiveOverWillYou - I'm so glad I found your thread again. I'm so rubbish at MN and kept trying to find it but couldn't.
Just wanted to say again, that im thinking of you and sending all the luck for your next meeting with them. I can't believe the ups and downs you're going through. You sound incredible and so strong!!
sending all the love for a postive experience and even more positive news xx

Ocelotfeet27 · 17/12/2025 21:42

Oh goodness OP, this is a lot to deal with. Hope you get some clarity tomorrow and that there is a clear and straightforward path back to health for you.
