When you feel ready, let Steve know you are ready for him to go, wish him a safe journey, and let him know there will be a time when you are all together again.

Hold him, stroke him and talk to him until your hands and throat are sore. I truly believe he can still feel you and hear you.

ILiketomove it move it - that is a post that I wanted to say yesterday, but didn't have the courage.

OJ, I have looked after many patients at the end of their life. I can't explain it, but some of them do seem to need 'permission' to die.

I hope that you managed some rest yesterday, and that you and Steve can have a good talk today, even if he doesn't say a great deal.

You are always in my thoughts and prayers OJ. When Steve is ready to go, it will be in a home full of love, with the people he chose to spend his last few weeks- his amazing wife and three fabulous children. I hope you all managed a peaceful night and have a beautiful day together.

Hi OJ - I have been away for two weeks - and I am amazed Steve has hung on this long (just before I left you were worried he would not make it through the night)- he must be very strong and really not wanting to leave his lovely family.

I agree with the others - tell him he can go when he is ready (and maybe remind him it is the girls birthday on Saturday and it would be so sad if he goes then).

I came across a website about death and dying recently when looking for inspiration to help a close friend. I think this is a lovely way to express what you and Steve are going through -

When we have done all the work we were sent to do, we are allowed to shed our bodies, which imprisons our soul like a cocoon encloses the butterfly and when the time is right we can let go of it. Then we will be free of pain, free of fears and free of worries-- free as a beautiful butterfly returning home to God....
