Looking for a circumcision doctor

Jaqchic · 20/01/2005 13:13

Can anyone recommend a private doctor in the London area who has performed a (male) circumsion for them? I don't want to get into a debate about the whys and wherefores of circumcision, but I am trying to find a reliable and reputable doctor with experience in this area. I don't care if they are a mohel or muslim practioner or non religious but I am looking for a doctor who will perform this in a proper surgical setting, not someone to come and do it in my home.

Thanks.

I didn't mean you lockets. Thank you Mears for the link. I must say I am quite mystified by some people's behaviour around here. Look I'll go and post something about myself in the Intros section which will hopefully allay your fears that I am some kind of trouble maker but after all the rudeness I doubt I'll be participating in this forum very much at all. Cheers everyone. And no I won't let the door hit my ass on the way out!

Jaqchic, we had ds2 done at The Portland clinic and they were excellent. Sorry can't remember consultants name as it was over 3 years ago now.

morningpaper · 21/01/2005 12:02

To be fair Jaqchic you said:
"my GP and Health Visitor commented that they believe male circumcision is a good idea"

without clarifying by saying something like "in our situation" which makes it sound as though it is simply your personal preference and people who think it's not a good idea to perform this operation with no good medical reason are therefore wrong.

Which would be the kind of thing that might start a debate, especially on a Friday.

skeptic · 21/01/2005 12:03

You really didn't think you'd get zero hostile posts when you ask about cosmetic circumcision? Welcome to the real world, Jacqhic

Hey, why don't you stick around and post on some of the less controversial topics

We don't all bite, and sorry for suggesting that you may be a troll. I can see that that was completely out of order.

Kayleigh · 21/01/2005 12:03

and Jaqchic, please stay, we are actually quite a nice bunch but there has been some recent trouble on the boards which has made some of us a bit nervous.
Welcome

skeptic · 21/01/2005 12:06

Affirm what Kayleigh says...

As the moderator of a busier board than this one, you must see your fair share of misunderstandings, suspicions about other poster's intents etc. It's the way boards are, and every board has a "silly season"

Kayleigh · 21/01/2005 12:08

and our board has just had the silliest season ever

Soraya1 · 21/01/2005 12:09

Ok let's start over - look I've even changed my Nickname. I've posted in the intro setions now.

skeptic · 21/01/2005 12:10

Ahh, group hug!

Kayleigh · 21/01/2005 12:11

Oh good, all friends again.

StuartC · 21/01/2005 12:13

Jaqchic - I'm on your son's side in this. He hasn't asked for a piece to be sliced off his penis. What makes you think he could want this?

Twiglett · 21/01/2005 12:14

send me a cat .. I can recommend someone

Ameriscot2005 · 21/01/2005 12:15

Hey, Stuart, 62% of American baby boys are circ'd - maybe you'll find more cannon fodder over there.

StuartC · 21/01/2005 12:24

I don't think anything that Americans do should be regarded as advisable - after all look at who they've just re-elected (but that's off-topic).

morningpaper · 21/01/2005 12:24

I think Stuart is American. Maybe still reeling from yesterday's 'joyous' ceremony.

morningpaper · 21/01/2005 12:25

Ah my apologies Stuart.

MrsFogi · 21/01/2005 12:26

I was just thinking that about American boys - I seem to remember a Sex and the City episode where the girls were horrified by the idea of a non-circumsised male (dh was very pleased he'd moved to England rather than the US as a teenager when he heard this!)

MrsFogi · 21/01/2005 12:27

sorry, uncircumsised?! I give up on the spelling

morningpaper · 21/01/2005 12:29

My brother was in South Africa recently and apparently they are all circumcised over there, and - at the dinner table - he whipped out his intact penis for all to examine, at the polite request of the host! They were all fascinated.

Tissy · 21/01/2005 12:47
Shock
expatinscotland · 21/01/2005 12:50

Well, I'm American married to a - thankfully - intact Scotsman . But yes, most men there are circumcised and until I went with my husband I'd never seen one that wasn't - although my mother went and told me my father, the child of Mexican immigrants, is intact! ARRGGH, TMI! Things are changing, however, and rates of circumcision are dropping there.
