I can’t stop being sick, what is going on!

About 7pm last night I came over really nauseous, but went to sleep okay. Woke this morning and from 7am onwards it’s been nonstop D&V and the worst radiating pain in my back/abdomen. I literally cannot keep down 2 sips of water.

Thank goodness for my MIL who has taken toddler DD out today as DH is managing a shift, I was completely hopeless this morning. I rang 111 because of the pain and they’ve arranged a call back from my GP in the next 6 hours but what could it be?

Normal stomach bug? Norovirus? I have taken up permanent residence in the bathroom. In need of serious assistance.

Pregnant?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/09/2025 11:45

Actuslly if it’s D as well as V, then probably not pregnant.

Sidebeforeself · 01/09/2025 11:46

When I had this it was e.coli

Heckthewhat · 01/09/2025 11:49

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads took a pregnancy test just in case, although I’m on the pill. Big fat negative thankfully..

Tummy bug or for poisoning. Could the pain be muscles from being sick?

try not to drink anything for thirty minutes after you’ve been sick and then take tiny sips. Can someone get you some electrolytes to sip?

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 01/09/2025 11:54

If you have back pain it could be kidney-related. Maybe even a blockage caused by a kidney stone.

FurForksSake · 01/09/2025 12:05

Have you got a high temperature? Feeling flu like, aching muscles etc?

DoAWheelie · 01/09/2025 12:07

Where exactly is the pain? Sounds like it might be gallbladder attacks to me. I'd vomit all the way through mine and also get the runs.

WalterMittysPuppet · 01/09/2025 12:09

Yes I was going to say, with back pain there could be kidney involvement. Whereabouts is the pain exactly - your kidneys are just below your last rib, at your side and just around the back? And do you have a fever?

Poor you, that's rotten. I hope the worst passes soon but if you are feverish and have pain in the kidney area - or along the ureters, which run down to your bladder where I once had a stone - you should call 111 for advice.

Heckthewhat · 01/09/2025 12:10

@DoAWheelie it’s interesting you say that because it’s coming in waves. Every 10 mins basically on the dot I get a wave of D&V at exactly the same time, then a little respite. But the lower back/abdomen pain stays there the whole time. I have been trying to take tiny sips of water in between.

In response to others, I have the chills/sweats, and can’t think of anything I’ve eaten on my own.. everyone else in the house seems ok for now thankfully.

Ah, gallbladder a good shout too @DoAWheelie - both need checking out!

Yes, gallbladder is a colicky pain. I was fortunate that I never had any vomiting, a bit of the runs occasionally but mostly persistent, gnawing pain in waves.

Heckthewhat · 01/09/2025 12:16

@WalterMittysPuppet gosh it’s really horrible. Waiting for a callback from the GP so will hopefully get some sort of an answer soon.

Must admit this is the first time I’ve been physically sick with a toddler in tow. Vomiting to the sound of Elefun in the background this morning was a new experience 😂 praying it passes a little by the time she comes home!

Hmm, good luck with the GP, keep sipping that water.

If you're bored on the bathroom floor between waves, this was my old thread when my gallbladder first flared up (different name). And as I've referenced it in the thread, I didn't have a kidney stone, they just "suspected" it!

Feel better soon. 😊

I've had a lot of abdominal pain, on and off for years, but more recently concentrated behind my sternum and around my ribs - sometimes it goes around...

FurForksSake · 01/09/2025 12:38

Gallbladder for me was very much under the ribs, not lower back and abdomen. Could be a kidney infection, stone or hopefully not appendicitis.

Heckthewhat · 01/09/2025 15:45

Just spoke to the GP, she thinks it’s your run of the mill gastro bug and told me to buckle in for 3-5 days potentially. Still being sick every 20 min and not keeping any fluids down. She wasn’t concerned about the pain, but said if no better after a few days come back. I shall monitor the situation. This truly is the pits.

Gallstones

Sidebeforeself · 01/09/2025 15:51

Oh sorry to read that OP. It’s hard to imagine getting through the next few days isn’t it when you are so ill. But at least the GP isn’t too worried.

landlordhell · 01/09/2025 15:52

Have you never had this before? Sickness bug?

IstillloveKingThistle · 01/09/2025 15:52

I’d say Noro.
Or gallbladder.

Not medically trained but it’ll be watch n wait … if the rest of your household get it, it’s obviously a contagious virus.

Feel better soon 🧡

landlordhell · 01/09/2025 15:53

Just sip dioralyte if you can to replace salts. Get well soon.

Heckthewhat · 01/09/2025 15:55

@landlordhell I’ve had short lived sickness bugs where you’re sick a couple of times and then by lunchtime I’m back to eating normally. Never had one of these every 20 mins all day jobbies before.

CherryBlossom321 · 01/09/2025 16:00

I’ve had some d&v viruses in the past that came with horrendous pains and barely able to leave the bathroom for 24 hours. Recovered absolutely fine after about a week, but thought I was going to pass away at the time! Hope you feel better soon OP.

Bluebunnylover · 01/09/2025 16:05

If you are getting pain in your stomach particularly in between or under the ribs it could be gallbladder

WalterMittysPuppet · 01/09/2025 20:58

Oh jeez, I'm so sorry it's been going on so long - must be torture.

Even if it is a hideous bout of something viral, it'll be self limiting so with a bit of luck, it'll suddenly ease off at the 24 hour mark. You must be exhausted and sore all over.

Hope the rest of the household swerves it and wish you better really soon.
