Foot injury - not sure if to get it checked (photo in comments)

About 2hrs ago I tripped and fell over (onto my side) I kind of twisted my right foot and landed on the side of it. It’s pretty sore and seems a bit swollen, can’t walk on it, very sore to touch, but can kind of hobble on the heel. Really don’t want to go A&E on a Friday and ours is always rammed out!
Never had a foot injury so if it’s just bruised I won’t bother?

I would go

bloodredfeaturewall · 25/07/2025 16:22

you need an xray.
check if your walk in center/minor injuries does them.
if not go to a&e
take food/drink and a power bank

rainbowruthie · 25/07/2025 16:23

Ouch - you poor thing.
I think you have to go although I understand your reluctance

MissMoneyFairy · 25/07/2025 16:23

That needs an xray, it's mishapen, have you got a walk in clinic ? I probably wouldn't drive.

OutingHobbyWife · 25/07/2025 17:20

Have you got a walk in (hobble in!) or minor injuries clinic nearby? Not sure if it's still a thing but a while back 111 could book appointments so you don't have long waits.

I've had one that looked like that and it was an avulsion fracture. Treatment very similar to sprain (rest, compression, non-weightbearing initially).

Thanks everyone I’m at A&E now, they gave me crutches straight away and waiting for triage now x

Hope you get seen soon.

MrsPositivity1 · 25/07/2025 18:11

Ouch - that looks painful

Jackiebrambles · 25/07/2025 18:13

Yeah I reckon it might be a fracture! Poor you. Fingers crossed you are seen soon.

Onetwothreebadknee · 25/07/2025 18:34

Don’t want to speak too soon but it’s pretty quiet, nurse said it always is during a doctors strike. But that proves that alot of those at A&E don’t really need to be there!

mrsjg · 25/07/2025 18:51

Oh, I’m glad you went, op.
Hope it’s good news in the end.

Onetwothreebadknee · 25/07/2025 19:22

Broken 2 bones in foot - got a lovely big black boot thing to wear!

OP posts:
anyolddinosaur · 25/07/2025 19:23

Needed to be x-rayed. Bad break or sprain they can loan you crutches and either plaster (break) or give you an elastic bandage.

Cross post, sorry it was the break.

DorothyWainwright · 25/07/2025 19:29

Oh bless you. It's rubbish being off your feet for a while. At least you got it early so it can heal nicely.
If you have a beanbag use it to elevate your foot when you're lying on your bed. Wheelie chair for kitchen so you can shunt yourself around and make snacks. Bumbag to carry bits around the house so you are hands free.

Onetwothreebadknee · 25/07/2025 19:40

Thanks everyone, I was going to leave it and see how it was in the morning!
Glad I did go though, was in and out in just over one and a half hrs. Just so annoying as it’s start of school hols
