For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Oh Frannny,

You did not go off the deep end, you are allowed to be upset, I know I would be.

Mrs C is right, mos things can be salvaged, and I have some stuff you can have, if things are beyond rescue.

littlerach · 26/05/2008 19:46

Oh, Franny, sympathy, I hate mice/rats/crawly furry htings.

men don't seem to notice them though.
I could hear scratching for about a million years and dh wouldn't hear it. I sent him looking, and he reported all was fine - bollocks was it!

Anyway.....let us all know what you need.
And Freecycle, ours are always giving baby stuff away.

TooTicky, hope ot went okay, we wre lamost near your house today, for the craft fayre, but had change of plans.

Off to new Forest tomorrow, and wildly excited as am meeting up woth old school friends. And children.

UnderRated · 26/05/2008 19:52

Oh no, Franny. Mousey stuff is yucky. I am sure that disinfectant is enough to kill any germs. Often with wee, it is only a problem when it is wet, so old mouse wee shouldn't make anyone ill. I am sure if you scrub it, it'll be ok. And wash the fabric stuff. But it is definitely not nice.

I like Riders on the Corn

I'm slightly concerned that I was being likened to George III but will continue to shout random fruit & veg at the end of my posts in a tourette-like manner:

Spinach, mushrooms (not a portion though), cake, treacle pudding,

well, yes, they do wee a lot and they can carry disease, there is no point denying that.

They are highly unlikely to be transporting disease wherever the stuff touches though, germs don't live and live in the air, but you can hoover and wipe down with a spray or milton even if you don't normally use this stuff.

I would consider a chewed weed on wicker basket to be for the bin, personally, but plenty of people would just give it a wash. Maybe you could choose a new one with ds and have fun with the covers. I know you won't have budgeted for that but it might be fun.

Could you boil wash the cover for the nursing pillow? What else is uncovered?

womblingalong · 26/05/2008 19:56

Hi avi,

Not been away, just v busy, and lurking lots, bu not posting much, seem a bit paralysed by all the chattiness atm. Not sure why.

thanks for all offers - I think we can rescue stuff (I hope?) and anyway can get new stuff if necessary - it is just upsetting and bothersome and I thought we were just about to get sorted but it turns out far from it

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 26/05/2008 20:06

60 deg is ok is it?
yes the basket has been binned
also cot mattress which was brand new and had I think been slept on once hah, by accident when he fell asleep looking at his mobile while I was in the shower

have found a new moses basket 30 quid am ordering it now

dp bit repentant
we are discussing strategies for sorting it all out without having to firebomb the loft

avi thanks I am worried about disease I must admit
contamination a mild phobia of mine and with me being pg, a 5 yr old, and a newborn coming, doesn't seem like a great idea to have disease ridden stuff around (oh yes, I googled )

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 26/05/2008 20:10

you know the germs in the air thing? so if dp has put some boxes from the loft on the landing, could the urine that might be on the boxes not transfer germs to the landing carpet? (he has now hoovered but I told him I am not convinced you can hoover germs )
I know I am sounding a bit bonkers here but I am quite anxious about it

also entire loft is presumably a hot zone ( at ebola reference) wtf do we do about that? clear all the stuff out and then....how do you clean that roofing felt stuff? or if we can get rid of mice and just leave it all for a bit will the germs die? can we then put stuff back?

berolina · 26/05/2008 20:23

Rushing in... ds2 extremely awake

Franny I am sorry. I am somewhat contamination-phobic too, but mice not really one of my triggers. Would you like my bf cushion on extended loan? Would also give you my moses basket, but fear getting it from Germany is impracticable.

womblingalong · 26/05/2008 20:25

Exactly Avi, I just don't know where to begin, sometimes!

Franny, you sound a bit more positive, what looks like it will hav to be binned, and what can you save?

womblingalong · 26/05/2008 20:27

There you go, gross posts! lol

womblingalong · 26/05/2008 20:28

sorry cross posts of course

JudgeThreadd · 26/05/2008 20:32

oh dear, jupiter is in retrograde or something, hence communication horrors for geminis...look

here for what has just happened to me

Tis me, the lunar one BTW....

MrsCarrot · 26/05/2008 20:33

I would think the hall is ok, maybe clean the carpet if you are very worried but I would only be inclined to do that if the mice had actually weed on it iyswim.

Also, there's no point in doing anything to the loft while they are still up there. You could spray it once they are gone.

It is horrible, you are about to have a baby and you want things to be clean. I got the mouse man in when I discovered them a few weeks before ds2 was born, just couldn't bear the thought of it. Others can live with their presence, better people than I.

ahundredtimes · 26/05/2008 20:42

I think the hall will be okay too. It's only like walking in off the street and going up stairs really. Though perhaps you take off your shoes, always?

Oh it is horrid though. I would get rid of anything chewed. Boil wash at 60 EVERYTHING in biological powder, and then wash everything in non-bio at 40 twice.

TooT. Hope everything worked out okay.

Went to see Nims Island with dd yesterday afternoon, didn't come back on here. We have been rushing about today, with great effect.

I have eaten lots of fruit. Including apricots, which should be nicer than they are.

Wombling, don't retire in confusion. Come out and be confused.

MrsCarrot · 26/05/2008 20:51

apricots are always a disappointment I think, one of the few fruits that are better dried.

Do you recommend the film, 100? Thought about taking dd.

I forgot to watch Madmen, the last episode!! So annoying, I got caught up in Walk The Line. I love that film.

ahundredtimes · 26/05/2008 20:55

Oh Oh Oh Mrs C, oh oh oh it was good. Really so very good. But they are repeating next week on BBC2 so I think you should watch from the start.

Nims Island - terrific. Me and dd enjoyed hugely. Also though of Avi and Franny because at the start as she is running across a beach she says 'I don't go to school. I am home educated' and dd said 'what's that? I want to be that.' lolol.

Yes take dd. And really so very nice to have adventure story with girl at the centre taking on the [look away Avi] pirates / tourists.

Most satisfying. We both loved.

MrsCarrot · 26/05/2008 21:04

Oh good, I forgot they were repeating it, I will watch the lot. In that case it will be quite compelling if a little torturous not having seen the end.

The film sounds great. I hardly ever do anything with DD on our own so I will try and do that this week.

FrannyandZooey · 26/05/2008 21:05

oh thanks all
keep having minor altercations with dp eg he has just washed some of the stuff at 40 deg and I said it needs to be 60 deg, and he said he is not doing anything until he speaks to the council and will do what they say
I said well you can do what they say, and then you can do what I say, and I say wash at 60 deg
he said 'I am not going to do it just because you say so'
I explained that when a woman is 8 months pg and there are mice pissing on her baby's moses basket actually you DO do things just because she says so
AIBU?

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 26/05/2008 21:07

40 degrees?

You could put the mouse in and he'd come out and run off at 40 degrees. Turn the dial up. Do it at 90 I say.

FrannyandZooey · 26/05/2008 21:08

MrsC what could we spray the loft with? like fumigate it you mean?

100 does the biological clean germs better? God why am I so ignorant about all this stuff? I would never pass the grown ups exam would I?
and then twice in non-bio? is that so the bio stuff isn't left on the clothes next to the baby's skin?

Wombling I am sorry you have felt over faced by all the chatting. I have missed you. Am wearing the fab skirt again today!
