For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I want to go and walk round a baby shop and buy pointless things I don't need
I haven't bought ANYTHING for this baby except a second hand outfit from eBay
we haven't got a baby shop here any more, nearest one 15 mins in the car
dp dragging his feet about taking me
but it's raining! what else are we going to do? oh yes, clear out the spare room

ds is ecstatically crooning to himself over a big tin of old rice we just found (I used to put it in the sandpit when he was a toddler). He's sitting on the floor in his pants letting it run through his hands again and again.

Oh TooT you poor things

How is ds rash thing Franny?

alarkaspree · 25/05/2008 10:17

Franny, that sounds fairly similar to when my ds started chicken pox. We were convinced it was a heat rash for 2 days. Have you had cp?

Didn't manage to get on here yesterday but managed 8 f&v.

Apple and raisins so far today, and making pizzas for lunch so will try to get lots of veg on them even though I have pretend-vegetarian-bil-who-hates-vegetables coming round.

BBee, you probably don't know me, I'm neither new nor name-changer just very unprolific poster. Hello.

Boco · 25/05/2008 11:25

Franny dd1 has some funny red spots on her chest and tummy. She's had chicken pox so it isnt' that, and they're not fluidy either - they're not bothering her so thought maybe bites of some kind.

Toot what a nightmare you poor thing - hope it is all ok a the hospital and everyone is better very soon.

We're going to Poland in the morning. Was it UR who had a recommendation of somewhere nice in Krakow?

I was looking forward to it but now I'm kind of not because we have completely run out of money - but to the point that dp has run out of medication and not gone to get his prescription and now it's too late. That means he wont be able to until next sat, which is a long time without any. If he'd told me I wouldn't have got my hair cut so don't really understand and am hugely angry. This adds a level of anxiety to the next week that I could really do without. I'm considering having a very honest talk with inlaws which isn't something I'm looking forward to.

MrsCarrot · 25/05/2008 11:26

A talk about money or a talk about notgoing?

Toot - hope his eye is ok

Boco · 25/05/2008 11:30

There will have to be a talk about money anyway. More a talk about him.

MrsCarrot · 25/05/2008 11:38

oh yes, he hasn't been feeling well has he? Hmm, that sounds like a hard conversation to have. Don't regret having your hair done, you felt so much better for it and you will be able to manage won't you?

MrsCarrot · 25/05/2008 11:40

Franny - that sounds like it could or could not be chicken pox, they do get funny rashes sometimes don't they. You always know with CP in the end though as they crust over.

Boco · 25/05/2008 11:42

He's not been too bad for a few weeks, but going from maximum dose of medication to none, - while we're away, with his parents, is really not a good move. Don't feel I can manage these swings anymore, seems stupidly self destructive and i'm running out of supportive feelings, mostly harboring furious ones.

MrsCarrot · 25/05/2008 11:46

shit - that sounds really stressful. Did he really not get his prescription because of money, couldn't he have borrowed some? I mean, how does he get when he just stops?

Sorry, firing questions probably doesn't help.

There are pharmacies open on sundays though, can he get to one here for eg?

Boco · 25/05/2008 11:53

No the prescription from Gp will have been sitting there waiting for him at the chemist, so he couldn't get one from another place. He said it was money - he's really really stressed about money, more than i'd realised. But he also has enough self awareness to know what happens when he stops, which is why i'm so angry - it has to be a priority and he knows it. Can 't understand it at all. I had enough to pay for it and usually I do, I pick it up and get it sorted - I assumed he'd done it this time and he only told me otherwise after the chemist had closed yesterday. He did walk down there after some shrill words, but it was too late.

MrsCarrot · 25/05/2008 11:59

what about about an out of hours doctor re- prescribing to a different chemist. I really think this is the kind of thing that they would see as urgent, going away without medication for his mental health despite it being his 'fault'. You could speak to them and say his leaving it is connected to his frame of mind atm. You are not just going on holiday either, are you, it's a family trip?

This is all down to you to sort out again though isn't it, it must be such a strain.

FrannyandZooey · 25/05/2008 12:03

It sounds a bit self-destructive doesn't it, and also rather aggressive towards you and the girls if his behaviour is going to become difficult - but with the excuse of 'well I couldn't get it because we didn't have the money'

there will be an emergency chemist open today somewhere but you'd need a new prescription from an emergency doctor
I would also be livid
your hair is nothing to do with it, that's done (and I bet is lovely)
what will happen if you do talk to ILs?

the rash - is really so few spots I think if it IS cp he will not have had it properly anyway (people get it mildly and then get it again don't they?). There is now one spot which he has scratched, which could feasibly be cp as it looks slightly crusty. Either way I don't reckon this is going to give him immunity. I've had it, so no worries there. I haven't had measles or anything though so we were slightly perturbed at mystery rash - he isn't exactly fully vaccinated so it would be our own fault if it bit us on the bum really

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 25/05/2008 12:05

cross posts I agree MrsC
it is definitely a kosher emergency but all down to you to arrange

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 25/05/2008 12:05

, both mine had it mildly and then properly later on. Ds2 hasn't had any vacc yet, I have been worrying about that a bit recently.

FrannyandZooey · 25/05/2008 12:06

how old is he now? has he had any at all?

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 25/05/2008 12:22

he's 16 months and no, none yet

I do want him to have some of the first ones, tetanus esepcially but he was so allergic to eveything early on that I thought I would wait
as they can be more of strain on the digestive system

He had his blood tests at the hospital on Friday so we should know what he is allergic to soon. Thank god for bf, it made it so much easier as they could find a vein very easily

MrsCarrot · 25/05/2008 12:23

couldn't find a vein I mean

ahundredtimes · 25/05/2008 12:45

Oh Boco, it all sounds impossible. I am sorry. Have emailed you.

You'd think we were having a baby, rather than an au pair. Massive sorting going on here.

Also now dd most indignant about not being able to go and see IJ yesterday. Says she wants to go and see Nims Island. Oooh I could go to the cinema twice. That'd be good.

We are having bagels for lunch. And a roast for supper. I think often MrsC of your glazed carrots - but I don't know what they are, and I want some. How do I glaze carrots?

MrsCarrot · 25/05/2008 13:20

oh gosh, I don't really follow a recipe. I think you are supposed to boil them and then stir them in a melted butter sugar mix till they are glazed or put them in the oven with the coating.

I usually roast them halved, lengthways, with
a little olive oil and then when they are nearly done I put a bit of sherry and brown sugar on, well I would melt the sugar in the sherry but I don't know amounts, sorry. I don't like them too sugary.

We are having sticky lemon and pepper chicken and fennel braised with vermouth and garlic, couscous and corn on the cob. I am not sure any of these things go together very well but that is what I fancy.

What a rainy grey day. I have spent too long on here reading the anti social dog thread, must be more constructive.

MrsCarrot · 25/05/2008 13:21

and I meant I cook them a bit longer with the sugar sherry on or I find it overpowering

Boco · 25/05/2008 13:25

Dp refusing to do dr thing. Nearest chemist 20 miles away and there's no way he'll go. He thinks he's fine and will be fine and that i'm being stupid.

Am packing very reluctantly.
