For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

alark how and why did you go FOUR times?

TooT hope bottoms and tummies all improve soon. When you have 4 children does it feel like one or more of them are always coming down with something? I think that is the sort of thing that would make me a Crap Mother of Four

yikes sorry to hear that

erm I think it was better today
yesterday a low point (had to abandon shopping as couldn't walk faster than the most abysmally slow shuffle)
plus uncomfortable night
have restful weekend coming up fingers crossed will help
basically I have had it for about 6 weeks now and have been able to finish work and carry on with things like shopping and occasional gym, so not bad really
also am excused from lion's share of housework [saint dp]

had extremeley healthy salady lunch with apricots and raspberries for pud. Slightly spoiled by rather nice choccy biccies provided at school as a thank you for helping out....

alarkaspree · 23/05/2008 17:20

Franny I am training for a (short) triathlon in 2 weeks' time. And panicking a bit. Yesterday I had a swimming coaching session in the evening so went twice.

Do you have spd? I hope the restful weekend improves things.

Fullmoonfiend · 23/05/2008 17:34

wow! Alarkaspree!

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2008 17:39

oh woohoo alark
dp is desperate to have a go at a triathlon
I would love him to do it but nervous about the amount of time training would take him out of the house (he is VERY helpful)

oh for anyone who remembers the "I want to buy a new very expensive bike even though I already have 4 and we have not tons of money and you are having a baby very soon" argument heated discussion

he has just bought it
with his own money

yes apparently a bit of spd
quite mild (so far) but annoying

alarkaspree · 23/05/2008 18:21

oh a new bike . I drool over expensive bikes but neither my level of talent nor my level of commitment could possibly justify a new one. What is your dh going to do with five?

Triathlon is rather time-consuming to train for, because you have to train for 3 different events. How much time does your dh spend out of the house exercising now? I once read someone's blog who did an ironman triathlon on six hours a week training. The bike is the hardest thing to find time for I find, could your dh do some training rides with your ds in a trailer or a child seat (on one of the older bikes obviously!)

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2008 18:27

well to be fair to him, only one of the existing bikes is smart or nice, and he bought that one for me (a Pashley). Funnily I have not been doing much riding lately, anyway

He is getting the new one on the bike to work scheme - he saves about a third of the price I think, and pays for it each month out of his salary

he uses 2 of the others for cycling to work - one at this end and one in London. He gets off the train early and cycles a few miles as part of his commute, so that time doesn't take anything away from our family time - bike would be easiest part for him I would say

then he runs between 2 and 4 times a week, for about an hour each time

the problem would be the swimming. He is not especially fond of it, even, and finding the extra time would be hard, I think

Evening!

I think I've been quite virtuous today. I have been working out (distreetly at home away from prying eyes, well except dcs)

And I think I totalled over 10. Which is fecking ace for me.

So apple, mango, banana for breakie
avocado, tomato, basil salad for lunch
And courgettes, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, aubergine rissotto for supper
with blueberry and raspberry pancakes for pud.

Yum.

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2008 18:30

I don't begrudge him the money, anyway - just remained unconvinced that it should be bought right now out of household expenses

we don't spend a lot on leisure IMO - don't drink or anything - his hobbies are really biking, running, and DS Lite, so I think buying a posh new bike that he likes is a good use of his 'spare' money

S1ur · 23/05/2008 18:31

Wow Fran, your dp sounds terribly fit

Is he all buff?

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2008 18:31

yay virtuous Slur
Pink'll be along with a sticker for you later

I am the class dunce today, aren't I?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2008 18:32

LOLOL
no not buff at all
is on the chubby side (in a handsome beardy way)
he likes to pack the food away, like me
but I presume is fit or could not do all this running malarkey

OP posts:
S1ur · 23/05/2008 18:33

Oooh no dunce Franny, Pizza sounds lush, will they be roasted veg pizza?

I'm am absolutely having burgers and chips tomorrow, I can't hold the virtuous line for long.

S1ur · 23/05/2008 18:34

oh

But lovely, bearded and handsome wins over buff and a face like a cat fight any day.
