Ok so I’ve been having symptoms for years now and been tested for all kinds of things via bloods, stool and urine samples. The only thing that came back positive was low vitD which I’ve been taking daily for months and still don’t feel any better. I’ve got a tugging type sensation in my lower tummy either side of my hips as well as the following symptoms; Headache
Nausea
Severe back/ hip pain
Rash on face & under breast & chest & arm, back of knees on hips and eyes
Bowl issues
Dry sore bloodshot eyes with rash on eyelids
Phlegm
Depression
Anxiety
Fast/ irregular heartbeat
heavy, irregular periods 2 x per month
Pain under right side ribs
Heavy legs
Mouth ulcers
Bruise easily
Dry nose with scabs
Dry sore lips
Random body twitches
Toenails peeling off
Brittle fingernails
Dry hair
Twitch under right eye
Acotites- swollen tummy
Fatigue
Aching joints
I’m at my whits end! The fatigue is the worst. I’ve had to give up work. I wake up exhausted and I’m struggling to carry out daily tasks. Even climbing the stairs hurts! I’ve asked for a gyno referral but apart from that I think they have ruled out everything else. I’m 37 so poss peri menapause but the test they did came back negative for that too! Does anyone else have these symptoms and what was your diagnosis? Thanks

A few spots of black on my bathroom windowsills as the windows don’t open. House was built like this when I got it as the bathroom is an extension. I do clean it off with special spray though but do you think that could cause these symptoms? No one else in my family have symptoms

That sounds pretty normal and like you are on top of it.

Check really carefully in your bedroom there is no dampness or possibility of hidden mold in the wall. My husband had rented a place once and a pipe leaked into the wall and caused a huge mold problem that took a long time to show.

Best wishes OP. It sounds a really tough set of issues to deal with.

Keep pushing for answers. Do what you can lifestyle wise as it can only help while the drs look for answers.

Water with lemon juice.
being hydrated.
gentle yoga.
walking.
etc.

it all adds up and can’t hurt.

@BexAubs20 have you tried requesting a different Gp? Changing surgery? Writing to practice manager? Making a complaint via PALS? It’s unfortunate but sometimes it’s necessary to make a bit of noise. Especially with todays NHS.

Thanks I am definitely going to try more lifestyle changes. It’s just hard finding the balance between gentle exercise and healthy diet and overdoing it and depriving yourself of enjoyment you know?! But I must try! Feeling more positive today new month and all that!

No but I’m getting an app with a female gp this week apparently so we will see! Thanks

You need to ask to see the results. NHS thresholds are high compared to other countries.

Are you only taking vitamin D? E.g. for brittle nails and hair I'd take calcium and vitamin C. Vit C will also help with iron absorption.

You certainly do need to see the actual numbers, and the RDAs for everything are very very low in UK.
If your vitamin D levels are on the margin of insufficiency, check out vitamin K2 which should be taken with it. I take a lot of D with K2 and as a result get very few colds or infections. My GP knows and allows me one test a year and doesn't interfere.

Have you had a scan? Something is wrong and you should not be like this. Make sure you eat good food not over processed. You might consider going to a qualified nutritionist.

Good luck, I hope you manage to turn this round.

Seconded. The squeaky wheel gets the oil these days, unfortunately.

That’s what I’m thinking. I mentioned this to the doctor last time and he said “yes all your symptoms could be explained by fibromyalgia and the fact we have ruled most things out would indicate this, but most symptoms could also be explained by low vitD” it was borderline anyway not even low but he wanted me to wait 6-8wks of taking the vit D before giving a diagnosis. He also said “you won’t gain anything from a diagnosis of fibromyalgia as there is no treatment”

So many cases of Lyme disease is misdiagnosed as fibromyalgia as the symptoms are similar, Lyme is curable but a lot of doctors won’t entertain the idea. People have been brushed off because they said they hadn’t been abroad and they claim it’s not possible in UK/Ireland but it very much is so and many many have being diagnosed. Do your research, join forums etc Rule it out with a test. Get advice from others who had or currently are getting cured from it. People have cured themselves buying the medication online. I hope whatever it is you get to the bottom of it soon, best of luck x

Complaining about what? Being thoroughly investigated on repeat occasions?!

And PALS doesn’t apply to GP surgeries. They will have their own complaints procedure.

Well I don’t know the ins and outs of this woman’s medical history to know whether she’s been ‘thoroughly’ investigated or not and neither do you. What I do know is, rightly or wrongly, she is a dissatisfied patient and therefore her problem needs to be escalated within whatever formal complaints procedure her practice use, be it PALS or whatever else. GP’s can and do get it wrong, and their say is not the be all and end all. What do you suggest she does exactly?

Contraryjane · 02/04/2025 12:07

I’m sure she would. But what worthwhile GP is she then. If the GP thinks she’s ‘crazy’ then she needs to grasp the nettle and make appropriate referrals then doesn’t she? Rather than just being relieved that she goes onward to another GP with the same complaints. What a worthless and lazy Gp that would be.

ToastofLandon · 02/04/2025 12:58

I don’t have quite as many symptoms as you but we’re the same age and I think perimenopause could be part of the picture. I did recently start taking a complex B vitamin and the horrible skin issues I had have completely gone away.

Not nasty at all, just matter of fact. The GP has a duty of care. I said in response to a previous comment that if the Gp just lets her go to another doctor and rumble on like this for a lifetime then I think that’s quite sloppy. If the GP thinks she’s mentally ill then they need to say it and address it. Complaints are sometimes necessary to review the care we all receive. It’s not about ‘nasty’ or ‘nice’. That’s a childish way to look at it.

She said she’s had numerous consultations, scans, samples and I think she said a referral had been done?

I suggest she keeps seeing the GP to plug away and try and find an explanation for her symptoms.

Why would you think a complaint is warranted? She hasn’t been denied appointments or investigations - they just currently can’t find a reason for her symptoms. That’s not a reason for a complaint and the practice manager can do nothing about that. Complaints are for inadequacies and errors in care or processes - I can’t see at all that that applies here.

Not necessarily- it’s a way reviewing the care and moving forward with it. Op was asking for suggestions of what to do. Your response is to keep plugging away. Mine is to put her concerns in writing in order to review actions taken. This can actually be supportive practice for the GP in the interest of transparency and protect them from complaint further down the line. It’s not about punishment

You’ve called the unknown GP worthless and lazy. You’ve also indicated that the GP called OP ‘crazy’. I don’t think any GP would do that - for many many reasons.
We don’t know the other side to this story

I fount they do care. What they care about is that this is one of those posters who trawl threads and take the opportunity to discredit posters.

I hope not, but you have to resist them making you miserable. Social media sites have been heavily fined for posters ganging up on the vulnerable, even trying to make them take the ultimate way out.

They do it to me with impunity. I don't care, and you shouldn't either.

I don't want to go into details, but if I could, I would explain why I nearly died because someone thought there was nothing wrong, and the only reason I did not, was that, being convinced there was nothing wrong, I went abroad on business and collapsed. Had it not been a hospital in another country, rather than NHS I don't think I would be here.

You cannot take chances.

I’ve had several appointments over 2 years and blood, stool & urine samples but no scans or referrals. I had scans on my chest when I was pregnant in 2021. They told me I didn’t have chrones or celiac via a stool sample and from this thread I’ve learned that’s not correct and that you need a special blood test which I don’t think I’ve had. I think some GPs need to play detective, but we as patients can also help by doing our own research and helping ourselves. I’ve got an appointment with a formal GP in may. Yes that was the closest one. I’m assuming it’s for a physical gynocological assessment and possibly a referral to a specialist then, but if not I will be taking it further. My practice as a whole is quite good. They do investigate and treat my complaints as in cream for rashes, blood tests etc so I wouldn’t want to complain at this stage but definitely will if I have to as I can’t go on like this. Even if it is psychological I can accept that once I’ve had the proper investigations but imagine if there is something and I haven’t done all I can for the sake of my children to investigate it. I’m 37 yrs old I haven’t got to this stage of my life and just decided to become a hypercondriact. I’ve been at this GP practice since about 2010 so they know I’m not just a health fanatic who “enjoys illness” as some have suggested. FYI I was a very productive professional person in the highest tax bracket. I’ve only been off work since Jan when these symptoms have got worse.
