Is this throat cancer? Please help

Hey, so before I explain, I suffer with extreme health anxiety anyway so this isn’t ideal.

a few weeks ago I had a really sore throat one my right side enlarged tonsil redness in throat and feeling like my glands were swollen seemed to go away after 5 days or so.

no come Thursday had that feeling of burning in nose and throat and thought here we go again I have only just got over a cold.

now Friday I felt awful achy all over, tired, sore throat slept for most of the day, yesterday I felt better and was able to go to work, although again now I have the glands up, left side tonsil swollen and red and sore throat on the side!

im hoping I have just been unlucky and had the same thing twice, but now its unlikely and im terrified if its throat cancer! I have 2 young children and im beside myself with worry if it is cancer 😭😭😭

Sounds like a virus to me, lots of throaty viruses around at the moment.

No, sounds more like tonsillitis. My FIL had throat cancer last year and this was nothing like his symptoms.

Yes there are plenty of viruses around that seem to be very hard to shake off this year. I know lots of people who have had recurring symptoms for several months. Very annoying, but ultimately nothing serious

Your ill with it, very unlikely to be cancer

Get it checked. I once had a quinsy on my tonsils. I felt really awful too.

I had a friend die from throat cancer and this sounds nothing like his symptoms and exactly like my symptoms for a nasty throat infection!

The first time was a few weeks ago. Now you're ill a second time.

You've had two different viruses op.

Just a virus

Generally oral / throat cancer isn’t painful in the early stages and later the pain is more to do with the tumour being so large it causes issues with swallowing / breathing etc. The fact you’ve been so unwell with it all leans towards it being a mixture of viruses. Do get it checked to put your mind at rest though.

I have a horrible virus atm my throat is really sore its probably more than likely a virus you have, I'm on day 6 and it doesn't seem to be lifting.

You really need to take a breath op I'm not meaning to be condescending but you need to calm down.

I thinks it’s because in the space of 4 weeks or so it the same thing but different sides and only one at a time! So maybe I am unlucky and have the same thing twice maybe and I think because I have never really had swollen glands apart from 20 years ago when I had Scarlett fever and tonsillitis’s I think I just really panic!

If your children are in school or nursery they will bring it back and forward, obviously if you are not better by Friday get in contact with your GP.

As others have said, it very much sounds like a virus to me.

Do seek help with your health anxiety OP. This is the cancer forum. Many of us DO have cancer or are affected by it in one way or another. I myself am undergoing chemo and I have two children too.

i just had tonsillitis, extreme fatigue, stiff neck, sore sides of the neck., swallowing extremely painful.
Left tonsil was completely white. Just finished 5days of antibiotics, but today my throat is more painful as well.

Could it have developed into a quinsy? I had to be admitted to hospital when I had one and kept in for a few days on a drip.

OP i had a big white lump on my uvula which I had removed by maxfax consultant, about a 1cm diameter. And even that wasn't cancer, but HPV. And even then I didn't have a minutes thougut that I might have cancer.

I think you might need some mental health support if you are jumping from a sore throat to cancer.

@Starrynight999 how are you OP? I’m having similar worries at the moment, after having a viral infection there isn’t something right with my throat, and bloody Dr Google always tells me the worst

@Noshowlomo so the sore throat has gone after a few days, but right side still swollen and my glands are still up an sore and I’m on day 12 so seriously panicking! How are you? X

@Starrynight999 i sent photos of my throat to the doctor but they’re not concerned and didn’t offer me an appointment but my glands are swollen and I have a small lump on the right hand side. My tonsils look a bit red but normal.
The doctor said a bad throat following a viral can last a good while. I’m going to give it a few days and contact doctor again. I also feel super tired and run down. Very frustrating!

So this sounds very similar to me! Can I ask how long it’s been sore and swollen for glands wise! Because your story is the same as mine maybe it is just a virus going around and we are the panic people! 🤣

Ive felt unwell on and off since Christmas but I’ve felt like crap since around 20th Feb, and had lumps at back of my throat which have gone but today it’s red and sore. I’ve also had conjunctivitis and really bad chest. I hate it! But I am just fixated on my throat. I want one day when it’s not hurting!
