Bulging disc

Tink8607 · 12/10/2024 19:11

I have suspected bulging disc and piriformis syndrome. From previous posts I'm seeing alot of people say to walk walk walk, I cant walk with out my crutches. I'm so anxious that I will never get better I've been off work now for 8 weeks but in pain for 11. I don't know how I've done it. Please tell me it gets better, I really don't want injections or surgery I suffer with anxiety and this is just absolutely freaking me out. How long did it take you to recover? And is it possible to do without medical intervention?

Yeah, dont get me wrong since this started ive never wanted the surgery route. But at the same time ive been housebound for the last 4 weeks, so something needs to be done. I was doing well with the physio and was bulding up to the harder ones im now at a point I cant do the basic ones.

My physio says when that happens just rest if you can't do it. Try a sauna, massage, heat pad (which I do recommend) walk get a stick.

Well had MRI scan last week, consultant not worried about my back saying it's settled down. But he has referred me to another consultant because I need two new hips 🙈. I was blaming the pain on my back the last two years whilst my hips were quietly disintegrating

Mischance · 24/07/2025 09:09

Do nothing till you have had the MRI.

I finished up with disc removal.

@Tink8607 iv had mine since October and it's honestly horrid I stoped getting the nerve pain then it returned last week I don't know what I did may be it was squats I also get spasm in my back and thighs.

Im still under physio, Ive got to the point I cant do the basic ones any more. Ive got constant lumbar pain, a nerve being compressed in left hip/buttock, and a tightness on my right side which is where it spasms, this morning the tightness is bad, so im bracing my selfnfor the spasms again. All likely because I attempted the basic physio yesterday. Urgh I just need to get out of this house.

How long do I rest for, ive been reating for 4 weeks. Annoyed that this tightness has been triggered again. Ive got an electric heat pad thing, its brilliant. Think I may need to go back on some stronger meds for a few days.

Oh you came off the meds. I did this once never again within three days the pain came back. I couldn't exercise then either.

Yeah i came off because the dr freaked me out about addiction, ive been getting by with paracetamol, which takes the edge off but its not allowing me to do anything other than Potter around the house and do laps of the garden with crutches. What meds do you take? And what pain do you have.

They have given me nortriptyline but I darent take it, im already on a sedating antidepressant at night. So how are you now? Are you taking anything?

OP posts:
justasking111 · 24/07/2025 11:22

I take a nerve blocker three times a day. Cocodamol on rising, paracetamol or ibuprofen after lunch. Then cocodamol at bedtime. I'm on lansaprazole to protect my stomach if it starts playing up but can often get by with gaviscon.

Go back to the GP and get sorted out meds wise, you really do need a nerve blocker. I'm fine on Gabapentin, other people prefer something else.

justasking111 · 24/07/2025 11:29

Do consider a stick, you'll be able to walk further. I've got two now for when we go out it keeps me moving. I can have the stick in one hand and the Vax in the other 😂

Also at night when I get up after lying in bed I'm very wobbly.

No I'm not pain free, but I'm not in a wheelchair either which surprised the radiographer when she saw the results.

This morning I've tidied the conservatory, throwing out puppy chewed cushions. Moved furniture, toys. Tidied the sitting room. Cleaned the bathroom, had a shower. Tidied the bedroom. Done two loads of washing. I've just taken painkillers, have a glass of wine. I'm really in pain now so will need at least an hour for the meds to kick in. I'll have some lunch and relax. Later I have to go to pharmacy to pick up prescriptions.

I've a lovely lady coming at 5pm who I hope will be my cleaner. I'm going to really need her post surgeries. Husband really isn't domestic

26dX · 24/07/2025 14:17

@justasking111 is your surgery booked in or are you waiting? X

Deedoo · 24/07/2025 14:29

@justasking111 when is your surgery scheduled

justasking111 · 24/07/2025 15:01

My spinal consultant has handed me over to this surgeon.

I’ve just found this thread again and I’m wondering how you are feeling now? Another suggestion is a tens machine. It helped me a bit.

Hey, doing a little better spams have thankfully settled. Still in a fair amount of pain with lumbar spine and nerve pain.

Recovery Is a very slow process but hopefully the pain will continue to ease, bit by bit.
