This mole - ? Melanoma? (Pics)

I have a mole which I don’t pay much attention to - it’s on my shoulder so I don’t tend to see it. Tonight I have been wearing a mohair jumper which is a bit itchy, so I had a good peer at the mole in the bathroom mirror. It looks nasty and possibly more raised than it was previously. DP has private health care through work which covers me so I have booked an appointment for a video call (and sent images) for Monday. I’ve fallen down a Melanoma rabbit hole now - does anyone know if this looks like it? Sorry for the gross images in the harsh kitchen light!

It looks like it's been irrated so it's a good idea to get it checked out, doesn't mean it's melanoma though

justasking111 · 06/10/2024 00:37

Looks like seborrheic keratoses to be honest. They can play up on your shoulders

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 06/10/2024 00:38

Gosh you are opening yourself up to a world of panic by asking unqualified internet strangers about this!

I'm not even going to try to guess, but I will say that I have a LOT of moles and any time I've been worried about one, whether it's bigger/weird/itchy or whatever, I've had it checked out and it's been absolutely fine.

Good luck with your appointment.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/10/2024 00:59

Thanks for replying - I have quite a few big lumpy moles which apparently have the wart virus in them so hopefully it’s nothing. I had one treated with liquid nitrogen which flattened it down but funding cuts stopped that clinic and it grew back. We’re lucky to have access to private care as it’s about eight weeks for a non-urgent appointment at our actual surgery, which is usually on the phone.

Yes this is exactly what it looks like having Google imaged that. I have a huge one on my inner thigh. Thank you!

I agree, it’s almost certainly an SK. Typical place for one on the shoulder as they seem to appear where bra straps rub.

Hope the appt goes well!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 06/10/2024 20:38

Good luck for tomorrow.

Imbluedalale · 06/10/2024 20:43

Thanks for checking in! I actually cancelled as I didn’t want to waste his time if it was nothing to worry about.

You should still get it checked.

I had mine checked and it was fine, but I didn’t want to take the chance, just in case. Please get checked @Judystilldreamsofhorses.

I just hate taking up medical resources when they are so in demand. I always think there might be a child who really needs the appointment. If it gets any worse I will go.

Please Judystilldreamsofhorses
go and see the doctor . Don’t be like me and leave it too late . If it doesn’t look normal to you then you need to get it checked x

keeptalkinghappytalk · 10/10/2024 23:41

Op
you can get Boots ( major stores .. go online searching Mole scanning) ) to
photograph the mole/ wart for analysis. Takes a few minutes for the photo and a couple of days for results. I really urge you to get it looked at. Good luck.

EffinMagicFairy · 10/10/2024 23:41

I had a seborrheic keratoses which looked like that, I had it checked out by a private dermatologist who froze it off there and then, mine had become irritated like yours. I would rebook the appt just to get it checked.

DixonD · 11/10/2024 00:08

I can’t believe you cancelled. It doesn’t look great and needs to be checked, even for peace of mind.

My mum had a melanoma last year which was not dissimilar. Please go, you’re not wasting anyone’s time.

Eek! And this is why you shouldn't come on here for medical advice - you were reassured it was 'almost certainly' not melanoma by some random who probably doesn't have a frigging clue.

Gummybear23 · 11/10/2024 07:23

Mumsnet not confirm it is not melanoma.

changedname1979 · 11/10/2024 07:43

That looks almost identical to what I have, got it checked out to be told it’s just a skin tag and nothing to worry about.
you should get it checked out, I understand you don’t want to waste resources, do you have an option to send photos to your GP?

MissyPants · 11/10/2024 08:01

It's all well and good getting advice from the internet, but reality is we don't know, only a doctor can tell you. They will have a good idea straight away from just looking at it.
Not sure why you posted on here tbh if all you're going to do is convince yourself it isn't anything. It might be it might not be.
I'd get it checked anyway just in case.

Shiningout · 11/10/2024 08:07

I hope you didn't cancel and forgo getting actual medical examination and advise because of a couple of posters on mumsnet saying the mole looks okay..?!?!

stanleypops66 · 11/10/2024 08:12

I had one on my shoulder and it looked like that. It was a melanoma and I had it removed.
