Been for a blood test, what has she done! Photo attached

Hi

I've been for a blood test this morning and it honestly hurt so much.
Not the usual prick she shoved it in resulting in my vein being raised and bruised immediately.

It is honestly so sore.

Why is it bruised away from the enter point? Is this where the needles hit?

I feel like she's burst a vein. Quite dramatic but just feeling very tender around it and sorry for myself 😂

It almost looked like they squeezed you with their hand or with the tourniquet too hard, as the bruise isn't really relating to the actual puncture wound? I've been missed and bruised quite a few times but it's at the injection site.
Hopefully it'll go down in the next couple of days. If very painful go to the GP.

MalbecandToast · 10/09/2024 14:43

I look like this every time I get blood taken, its nothing to worry about OP.

I agree, couple of days and it'll be gone.

Greybeardy · 10/09/2024 14:45

It’s well within the realms of normal.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 10/09/2024 14:46

Mine always looks like that but much bigger bruising!

Thistooshallpass24 · 10/09/2024 14:47

That's fairly small! Mine varies between a soup spoon and a coaster sized bruise, before anyone asks yes these are recognised units of measurements 😁

Sunshineclouds11 · 10/09/2024 14:47

Thank you 😂

I'm not worried just wondered what had happened.
Can't believe majority bruise like this!

No way!

I normally just have the little injection mark

Ah that's nothing compared to the beasty bruises I get after a blood letting!

The vein has just bled that's all. It'll be sore for a day then go some beautiful shades of purple and green :)

Hollietree · 10/09/2024 14:49

Yep mine often looks like that after a blood test. Absolutely nothing to be concerned about. Put a cold compress on it if it’s sore. Couple of ibuprofen.

Thistooshallpass24 · 10/09/2024 14:49

Arnica helps ( not everyone believed in it, I don't need telling!)

CremeEggThief · 10/09/2024 14:50

You must have been VERY lucky in the past, OP!🤣

My arm looks a right mess for weeks after some blood tests!

Thistooshallpass24 · 10/09/2024 14:51

@Sunshineclouds11 yeah always at least a 50p usually bigger! Last time I was in/on sdec at the hospital I had both arms like that because nobody could "get my vein"

I've had a fair few blood tests in my time, and you do get the odd one that goes like that. It is where you've bled under the skin, that's all. Most of the time it doesn't happen, sometimes it does. It will fade in a few days.

Snowdrops17 · 10/09/2024 15:09

I always bruise like that no matter how gentle they are

Mumoftwo57 · 10/09/2024 15:10

I agree with other posters. Mine normally goes like that, it will clear up 😊 x

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 10/09/2024 15:11

It's got somethign to do with the angle I think. I once had a junior doctor attempt to stick a needle in, somehow he missed and the bruise formed almost immediately and was MASSIVE. It was in A&E and I honestly thought DH was going to hit him. He was super apologetic and embarassed and went off to get an experienced nurse who rolled her eyes at him, apologised again to me, and easily got me sorted 9(in my other arm!).

doublec · 10/09/2024 15:31

That's completely normal!

OhshutupBarry · 10/09/2024 15:36

I take bloods multiple times a day, some people bruise in front of me and others not a mark. A lady I did last week I could see the bruise spreading whilst the needle was still in, her family may think I butchered her but I did nothing different from the person before.

petermaddog · 10/09/2024 15:38

what do they use a nail? have had bloods done every day fora month no bruising.chemo only one time she missed ,3xs week did not look like
a junkie.

PfishFood · 10/09/2024 15:42

You should have seen my arm a few days after I gave blood for the first time. I was totally unprepared and wasn't hydrated enough on the day. I had an inch long mark like that on the inside of my elbow and the remaining bruise started up by my armpit and finished by my wrist! They barely got any blood out of me as a result too.

Since then I have made sure I'm well hydrated and have barely a mark.

ComfyBoobs · 10/09/2024 15:43

Completely normal in my experience.

Such drama!

Mischance · 10/09/2024 15:43

I am on anticoagulants and antiplatelets - you should see the mess my arm is after blood letting!!
