Yes, I've had a few periods of this. I am quite a bit older though. I didn't go to the GP, I assumed it was a hormone related thing. It started several years ago and it went away for a quite a long time but sometimes comes back. I think mine is related to perimenopause.

Ahh thank you I think I'll give it another week and see how it goes hopefully it'll stop I don't think I'd even get in with my GP so really hope it does away

I had this, just in the one breast. I did a bit of googling, and read that it could be caffeine related. I changed to decaff coffee and the pain went away. I did however go to the doctor just to get it checked out and he was happy it wasn't anything serious.

BrokenWing · 07/09/2024 14:30

If it feels hot, or you feel unwell, or painkillers don't relieve it, or you have any other unusual signs (dimpling, lumps, thickened skin, discharge from nipple etc) put an appointment in to see a GP now.

Otherwise I would wait a couple of weeks, from when it started, and if it is still there see your GP.

If you are really concerned contact your GP to put your mind at rest.

Imalongtimepostingmum · 07/09/2024 15:00

In my area GPs don't triage breast issues (south/south-west). There is a central number where you get booked in for a telephone call and then they decide next course of action.

You could ring GP and check if this is an option. But FWIW. If you ring GP and say you have breast issues, it would be unusual for them to not give you an appt.

Interesting I do drink a fair bit of coffee I'll switch over and see if this helps thank you

It feels normal minus the pain it is on and off but frustrating I think I'll just give it a few weeks and see thank you

I've had this before and it went after about 2 weeks. It can be hormonal. Obviously monitor and see how it goes over the next week or so

tiredmum35 · 07/09/2024 17:12

I went to the doctors with just this on Monday. She said pain by itself is not usually a concern and not a referral to the breast clinic. She said to give it 2 weeks and she would refer me if it was still there.

5 days later and it's settled. I think it was hormones.

Definitely worth a go, just watch out for the caffeine withdrawal, I had such headaches from it.

quietlycontent · 07/09/2024 18:29

I will caveat this by saying it's not medical advice.

But to put your mind at rest whilst you wait to see the doctor when I had something similar and the doctor told me that pain was not a factor when worrying about anything too serious in your boob's

Do obviously get it checked though if it carries on x

Thank you very much this has eased my anxiety a bit I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes x

I had the same. Saw the doctor. She wouldn’t do anything as no lump but just pain. Did tell me not to keep touching it as doesn’t help. I realised I was pummelling it all the time trying to find a lump. Does your back hurt at the same place? As in a line going through to the back? If so could be muscular. The pain went after a couple of weeks for me.

StormingNorman · 07/09/2024 20:17

Sometimes get a sort of stabbing pain in my right boob just before a period. Are you due on?

DreadingWinter · 08/09/2024 06:39

I've had very bad pain in one boob. I mentioned it to my GP and she wanted it investigated. Turned out to be a torn muscle in my chest wall. I'm a G cup and now have to wear bras that have no underwire and that hold my boobs in tight.

I'm beginning to think it may well be hormones because I was 8 days late for my period and now it's easing alot so random glad yours went away

Update pain is subsiding massively I was 8 days late for my cycle this month so I'm now thinking it was hormones

OP posts:
tiredmum35 · 09/09/2024 14:34

@MzPixie exactly the same - I was 5 days late. So strange!! Maybe something in the air 😂 glad it's subsiding. It's scary when you suddenly feel the pain.

This thread is so helpful - I’m heading back into the hospital tomorrow for checks as I’ve had pain and swelling in my left breast after a hernia surgery three weeks ago that ran into some complications.

I’ve had this pain now for a full week and it’s actually getting worse so they’re bringing me back in to check for a blood clot but it sounds like it could be hormonal (which is frustrating but way less scary). My ‘period’ was also a week late (I’m perimenopausal and on HRT) after the surgery which I put down to general anaesthesia and the trauma of the surgery.

Can I ask when the pain started for both of you? Mine arrived about a day after my period finally did (I had spotting for a few days before that).

The pain started 5th September I was late for my period at this point it's now fully gone since my period started so I did put this down to hormones I think if your on hrt and Peri theirs a high chance it's hormone related you've absolutely done the right thing getting it looked at because for your peace of mind that's essential I would have if it was still their gone to the Gp within 2 weeks it's very scary getting pains that we don't know what they are
All the best for tomorrow at hospital please update

The hospital is sending me to a breast clinic (which hopefully won’t take too long but even going private it may be over a week wait) as yes, they think this is hormonal too. Thanks for the feedback and hopefully my pain follows the pattern everyone here has experienced and starts to go down soon. They did say that the trauma of the surgery could have really impacted my hormones and it is likely just a temporary thing so fingers crossed.
